College degree or Makeup school?
Are there any colleges in Los Angeles that offer a degree in cosmetology, specifically makeup artistry. Or is it good enough to go to makeup school if I want to make as much money as possible and eventually work on television and movie sets. And other than using a few of the connections I have, what else could I do now, before I start school, to advance my career?
How do you become a special effects makeup artist?
Try looking for courses that specialize in makeup artistry. You may have to start out doing basic things like learning how to do weddings and runway styles. Perhaps look for a course to teach you the basics. Then work your way up to prosthetics and stuff. Also try getting loads of work experience. With the work experience, i suggest getting to know your stuff really well so that when they ask you to do something you can show them you know what your doing (you also won't get stuck on coffee orders). That way you'll slowly move up and people will start remembering you. It took a friend 15 years to break into costume design. Now hes in high demand. The same goes for makeup. Hope this helps. However you have to really want this. Its not easy. Try looking up some courses and research people on how they did it.
Do i have to go to school to be a makeup artist.?
I am a pro makeup artist. I went to school for esthiology (skin care, facials, etc) and found it to be a waste of time. However, I did go back to school, at The Makeup Designory in Burbank, California and it was incredible. I did the complete program, going full time for four months. I learned so much! I also interned at an NBC affiliate whilst there and got my foot in the door many other places. I later went on to be a trainer for MAC Cosmetics, and now have my own business working freelance. While you don't have to go to school, a makeup specific school like MUD or Joe Blasco, etc. is a great way to learn, network and make those connections you need to be successful. To be honest, working at makeup counters can be done without any experience and you can learn a lot, but it takes a lot of ambition, hard work and ingenuity to go past that. Training will help you build a portfolio, secure an agent, and move you into a place to make a real living at it.
I want to become a makeup artist but what highschool classes do I need?
As odd as it sounds, physics. My mom went to cosmetology school and there were people there that were getting their cosmetology licenses to do makeup and she said that physics and chemistry helped. And definately art because of learning the color wheel and what colors cancel out what... etc. :) Hope this helps.
Makeup artist career. is it worth it?
Im starting to LUV makeup. But its that how every makeup artist start therecareer. Some people luke mu..but there not in to any cosmetology or makeup ect. So i dont knos if i should take a coarse online for makeup..just for fum it will be waist of time. So how did you became a m.artist. what bad experience you had ..did u ever felt to quit..was it borin at some point? . What can i expect before reaching my goal to become a makeup artist!? How would costumer treat me? To see i have less experience? What other chalenge you had to be an m.a? Is it worth enough the money..time..to get in to that field.? And again i love makeup.. any long answer i would a preciated alkt..wirh experience. @:o) (
Do you need a license to become a makeup artist in CA?
Well like your parents always said... you need the paper to show you're legit. Go to school and just do it.. plus you never know what new things you might learn and maybe specialize in something else.. beauty make-up, glam make-up, and even prosthetics.. if you want to make good money you would take a masters makeup program. I plan on going to Cinema makeup school in Hollywood to do just that Check out different Makeup Schools to see what really fits you... and yes you need a license because you need to learn how to sterilize things and how to do certain effects.. you want to actually know it not just do it. You also need a business license etc.

Practice and Experiment - on you, on your friends; whomever. But you must do this a lot. Only then, you will understand what works and what doesn't. Additionally, in order to give yourself an official stamp of being a makeup artist, you can get a makeup certification. This will give you more credibility.Nowadays Makeup artists have more demand.
