I’m a firm believer that two people should do what they want and to hell with others who criticize them. That being said, if one person wants to get/give an engagement ring and the other isn’t into the idea, and there isn’t any way of compromising, then perhaps it is a test for the couple —like, if they can’t work out something like this, how are they going to work out life’s really big problems? As for me, my husband and I were both older when we got married, and we wanted a house. I was adamant that I ’d prefer a house to a ring, so we skipped the diamond. He agreed with me — and we bought a lovely home a few weeks before the ceremony. Our honeymoon was spent in our new home — no other place would have suited us! But others should do what works for them.

Do you honesty like your engagement/wedding ring?
Poll: Did you like it? If not did you get a new one? My answer: I didnt like the first one my husband gave me. I had a feeling he was going to ask me after he mom told me she had recently givin the family ring to him. I tried to get her to persuade him to give me a ring I would actually like. The ring he gave me can be traced back to the late 1700s. I hate it and so did everyone else who has received in the last 100 years. Like most rings from that period it has a really thick band and the diamond is tiny. I told him how special it was that he would give it to me but that I didnt really like it. He was a little bummed but he knows its ugly too. We then picked out a nice 2 caret pave` ring. I really like him mom's ring. Her husband adds on to it every 5 years. She now has almost 6 carets sitting on her finger. Woop Woop Im going to love inheriting that.

Should an engagement ring be at least 1 carat?
Not necessarily. I have small, thin fingers and when I tried on rings, I found about 1/2 carat to be big enough so that is what I'm getting. Take her and let her try them on so you can get a good idea of what looks right. I'm glad I did because my fiance though he had to get a carat and if he had I would have this huge ring that would not look right. Good luck.

I have a white gold ring, but I'd prefer platinum. You see white gold actually consists of yellow gold and alloys that make it a gray color. The ring is then dipped in rhodium to make it appear white. So after time the rhodium plating wears off and you have to take the ring in to get dipped in rhodium again. Otherwise your white gold ring looks dull and yellowish.
