I want to travel from Bangalore to Ooty alone. How do I plan my trip, as I am going alone for first time, and what places can I visit?
Aamir has already covered everything comprehensively. Adding a few things here. How to reach?If you're backpacking or using public transport, KSRTC is the best bet. If you're traveling by your own transport, take the Bangalore - Mysore - Bandipur - Masinagudi - Kalhatti ghat road - ooty route. Lots of hair pin bends and more possibility of spotting some wildlife on the masinagudi road. Where to stay?Hunt on budget accommodation options on Stay zilla. YMCA and YWCA guest houses provide great options too. If you're planning to stay in mid-high end lodging, opt for the ones near Fern hill or Oak hill. Much more calm and off the main touristy areas. What to see?Now, the main part. If you want to check out the mainstream places like Doddabetta, Pykara, etc, you can keep them for a day (you find names of these places in all travel portals). If you're that offbeat traveler, here are a few places off ooty which are truely a nature lover's delight:a. Avalanche & Emerald lake - 40 Kms off Ooty. Forest dept has a beautiful rest house here which offers simple accommodation and food. Great place to unwind, far away from tourists and spot some wildlife too. There are a couple of pricey resorts too. (Taken in 2009)b. Glenmorgan - A quaint little town off Ooty - Gudalur road, which houses a huge hydro-electric power set-up. Limited stay options here but beautiful place to visit for its pristine loveliness. c. Parsons valley/Mukurthi dam - This is a trekker's paradise near Ooty. Of course this requires you're in a group or find a group who's willing to travel here along with you. Known for its scintillating views and a possible sighting of nilgiri tahr too. If you have the time, you can also start early from Ooty on your return journey and stop over in Bandipur for a jeep safari.
