Are there idol singer groups like AKB48 or Girl's Generation from mainland China?
SNH48The first time I saw their music video on YouTube I thought AKB48 has changed their name. I'm not familiar with either of them and I'm not good at memorizing all those faces at one time so I could be wrong but I found that they are almost identical to each other. I only heard them the first time this March so I guess SNH48 is not as popular as AKB48...but again it's just my own opinion. Anyway you can check them out if you'd like. What do you do at an AKB48 audition?
You have to be Japanese or Korean but preferably Japanese[It is Japan. .] And you have to audition when they have there auditions, They have them at Akihibara Theater where they perform and you probably havw a very slim chance over 12,00 People Audition and there are 60 People in AKB48 Not including the trainees[Like about 20] And you have to do a performance for AKB members and also the judges, You have to sing and dance, And they don't really accept anybody because you have to be also pretty too. And prepare to get plastic surgery also if you get in. Where really 'Kawaii' stuff like short dresses[Just look at AKB48 Videos] Weae stuff like that[: Hope I helped!
Why are Japanese idol groups such as Morning Musume and AKB48 not popular and largely unknown outside of Japan?
There are a lot of noise in this thread so I’ll give it to you straight.They just aren’t producing great music.A lot of fans don’t want to admit this, so they find other things to talk about like language barrier, marketing, etc, but at the end of the day it really does just come down to quality.Idol groups in Japan are often focused on selling concepts and their Idol culture. They don’t primarily compete on the quality of their music.The anti-thesis to Japanese Idols are Kpop Idols. Kpop has proven more than enough to the world that you can achieve global popularity while singing in foreign languages. You can point to any attribute of a successful Kpop group and say - “Yes, that is world-class”. Their dancing and choreography is bar none one of the best in the world. Their music is fantastic. You can tell they invest a lot of money into their videos as well.On the other hand, it’s very hard to justifiably say “AKB’s dancing is world-class”, or “AKB’s singing is world class”.Some of you might be thinking “But I’m not into Kpop while I’m into AKB. So it must be a matter of taste”. This is true to at an individual level, but data seems to say otherwise at the global-scale.Here is Google searches for Jpop in the last 14 years.And here it is for Kpop.The quality of Jpop has gone down a lot over the last 20 years. And it seems the whole world perceives it too. Most of Jpop’s international ambition have subsided along with a downturn in quality.Yes, language barrier is an issue. Yes, distribution is an issue. Yes to all that. But the fundamental issue - no matter what anyone says - is that they’re not producing great music.
