What were the war goals of The Central Powers in WWI? and Allied Powers?
Central powers like Germany were strong but they felt like they were not respected enough, so after the assasination of duke franze ferdinand of austria (NOT THE SINGER!!), germany was allied to austria and took the opprotunity to invade serbia. sebia was allied to blah blah blah and that nation was allied to blah blah blah, so they whole net work fo alliances was trigger and the whole contient was at war for respect, credibility, land, survival. This all at the expense fo the men who foguht those horrendous wars in the trenches. their leader who wanted respected, nationalism, and land ........used them like pawns killing millions of young men.
What was the importance of the Treaty of Versailles?
The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty between Germany and the Allies which effectively ended the First World War. The French insisted it be held in Versailles as retribution to Wilhelm I crowning himself King of the German Empire in the Hall of Mirrors in 1871. It dictated the terms of peace to Germany, Each of Allied Powers had different aims: The Americans were idealist, looking to implement Wilson's 14 Points and the League of Nations as a way to prevent future conflicts, the British were seeking stability, the French were looking to punish and humiliate Germany while increasing their own power and prestige, while the Italians were looking for land promised to them as a way to get them to enter the way (as an aside, they didn't get it, and the Italian minister left the Conference in tears). The end result was a Treaty which had several contradictions that drew ire in Germany: They wanted to weaken Germany but to do so meant loss of German land, leaving millions of Germans living outside the German state, directly contradicting Wilson's right to self-determination. Britain wanted stability but France's desire to punish Germany led to massive reparations. The 'War Guilt' clause, which was particularly hated, declared that Germany take all fault for the war (even though Austria had started it with her invasion of Serbia). I would add, just because of the common misconception, that Versailles did not inherently lead to Hitler. While it was a common gripe of Hitler and his opposition to it sold well to the German public, lots of things would have to happen in 1920's and 1930's which allowed Adolf Hitler to grab power. The Treaty was even amended numerous times long before Hitler came to power. Versailles was significant to Canada because the powers granted her a seat at the table. The country still little to no input and was left out of most important discussions but it was the start of increasing autonomy for the former British colony.
What was the strategy used by the allied powers to defeat the axis powers?
The global strategy was 'Germany First' as they were seen as a greater threat. The method used was brute force - see 'Brute Force' by J. Ellis for an excellent description.
