What Will I Be Missing By Going To Online Highschool

Am I missing out by not going to a "regular" public high school?

It depends on you. I attended my local charter school (also less than 50 students per grade) and left when high school started since I did cheerleading and gymnastics at the public high school, it made things much easier for me to attend there because my charter school had a different time schedule, and I often had no ride to get to the public school, so attending it made everything easier sports-wise.however in terms of college preparation both the charter and the public school were equal in my eye. My friends who attended the charter school until graduation didn't feel like they had an edge in college, because every college and experience is unique and high school won't always prepare you for the unexpected. I thought attending public school was best for my athletics, but I enjoyed the academics as well. AP classes were challenging and rigorous, and I still keep in touch with my high school teachers. I'm grateful for the friends I made and the experience I had. My friends at the charter school also enjoyed the academics and experiences at the charter school. They liked that there was a closeness as graduation came closer but can admit that when it came to college, both schools were equal.all in all, it's completely up to you, when high school ends, everyone is in the same boat at college. High school won't matter. If it were me, I would stay, unless you plan to play a varsity sport.Hope this helps!

Are High School kids who are doing online school or home school missing out on the “high school experience”?

Personally yes and no.Here’s why:YesYou missed out on the most fun high school experiences like school dances, HoCo, Prom, pep rallies, sports, etc.You miss out on meeting new friends and great people. You don’t have to witness school bombs or shootings in the school’s building. You miss out on lockers storage and different kinds of teachers. You miss out on social interaction with all kinds of people. You miss out on the comparison of class schedules and report cards with you and your friends. You miss out on learning certain school and life lessons in high school sometimes, like fraud, corruption, creeps, etc.You miss out on joining school clubs and sports teams. You miss out on having crushes, boyfriend/girlfriend and the feeling of being rejected. You miss out on meeting all type of people in your high schools, like Jockies, popular people, emos, nerds, weirdos, etc.You might miss out on group oral presentations and oral presentations in front of your class.you miss out on school (toxic) dramas. Ew, actually. You miss out on school resources like the school nurse, teachers, school janitors, secretaries, the principal, school counsellors, etc.You miss out on school homework websites (ugh)—for example Schoology, Wix Sites, Math Help Services, Your teacher’s website, etc.You miss out on school competitions and school awards/scholarships.You miss out on the huge High School memories: The Yearbook. You miss out on hugging all your high school friends and miss on telling where you’re going in life after high school ends.High School Graduation with the whole grade.NoYou get to work harder (maybe)Better focus on your grades, and fewer distractions. You avoid distractions and learn to self-study more.More independence and you get to learn how to be self-independent on your schedule and your time. You get more sleep (I think)You can still make friends with people onlineConclusion: either way, everyone experiences and interprets High School experiences very differently. So you might miss something in high school, but someone interprets High School differently. Either way, it’s okay.Hope it helps! —Brit

How can i make up high school credits online during the summer?

Right now im missing 25 credits and im going to be ending my junior year and I would like to go into my senior year without missing any credits or having extra credits. Does anyone know how it works and how many credits and courses and can take online during summer school? thankyou

Can I take online classes for high school to skip a grade?

Yes!My high school had a minimum number of credit hours necessary to graduate. This number varies by school, but I was lucky enough to attend just before they raised the minimum.During my junior year, I enrolled in online classes through my local community college through a dual enrollment program. Signing up was as easy as talking to my counselor and filling out a few forms at the college.I also had to attend a before-school gym class at 6:00am every day to meet my PE requirement. Not everything can be taught online. More than likely, you will run into this problem as well. You may have to sacrifice a summer, winter break, or that extra hour of sleep. It was a huge amount of work, but my ultimate goal was to leave high school ASAP. If you’re looking for an easy way out of high school, this method is not for you. Remember, you’re not just skipping a grade - you’re completing it early! This condenses your years spent at the school, but also gives you more time to attend college, volunteer, sign up for internships, etc. (It also looks pretty snazzy on a college application!)I don’t regret doing this one bit. Since I did this through a community college, the dual enrollment courses I took during high school counted towards a degree at my local college. Right now, I could be a senior in high school, and I already have an associate’s degree. Also, I got the classes at a huge discount because I was a high school student. It’s a great deal if you have a local college that offers this.It doesn’t take brains. It takes commitment. The hardest part is signing up. You’ll have a lot of homework but in the long run you get an entire extra year for yourself. Contact community colleges in your area to see what they can offer you! Your high school may have other programs for getting ahead. Not every school is happy to see students graduating early, mind you, so you may have to maneuver through some annoying counselors and papers. Talk to someone who will encourage you.PS: My school’s credit requirement meant that I did not need to take every class I’d miss as a senior. It was mostly specific courses for graduating and meeting the credit minimum. So you may luck out and actually have to take fewer courses overall by completing them through a dual enrollment program!I hope this shed some light on one method you could use. Good luck!

I didn’t go to high school but instead did online school to two years and straight to college, did I miss out?

Eh, probably not. I’m not sure what your motivation was for doing online school, but my guess is that, whatever it was, it might’ve made it tough to fit in in high school.Alternate paths will always only be speculative. But, my take on “what could have been” is, if you struggled with chronic physical or mental illness, if you’re incredibly academically ambitious, or if you had to balance your schoolwork with other responsibilities (hold down a job?) then going to a physical school would have only made things even more challenging. Now, I have a chronic physical and mental illness, and I did attend high school in person and enjoyed it. I made some close friends and learned some interesting things, so it seems like it was worth it even though high school classes have trouble accomodating students who miss ~30 days of class a year. But, in college, I transitioned from, initially, a full-time, in-person schedule (18 credit hours per semester) to a part-time schedule (six to nine credit hours), with about half of those classes being online and half being in-person. I graduated in six years. While I didn’t make as many friends in college as I did in high school (really, just one friend), I was able to learn what I needed without risking my health. Now, my job is completely online; it’s easy for me to do, even while I’m sick and using albuterol every hour or hooked up to an oxygen tank, something I just can’t do in person at an office. Taking online classes prepared me well for the kind of work I do now, which is an important aspect of education.Choosing to tackle school in-person in high school wasn’t a bad choice for me, but neither was taking the mostly-online route in college. My guess is, it’s probably the same for you.Good luck in college! I hope you learn what you’re looking for.

Can a high school "neglect" to tell you about missing credits until it’s too late?

HO-BOYMy high school is super new and as of 2017, our first ever batch of seniors are graduating. You’d think my school would not let anything slip. First ever graduating class, right? First impression to make on the post-secondary academic world, right?A good chunk of our seniors nearly couldn’t graduate because of a missing elective credit or a missing English credit. I don’t find much use in placing blame, but how does school staff mess up this badly?I’m not sure if they’re going to get special permission by the county to graduate, or if they have to take summer classes to graduate early. I hope everything works out for them. But yes, a school can neglect to tell you.

Missing 15 credits on transcipts and need to get High School Diploma or GED. What should I do? ?

I would have graduated but had to leave school because my girlfriend had our child so now I want to finish so I can enlist in the military. Thanks in advance and all insulting answers will be reported... thanks

Is online highschool a bad choice? I'm really depressed.?

High school is about more than academics, which makes online high school a difficult choice.

I really think you need to explore other high schools in the area of where your mom has moved to. Is there a larger city with a bigger high school nearby? Usually, you can choose to go to another area high school if you have a good reason, and I think you do.

If you can't attend an alternate high school, I recommend you just try out the high school for a while before you make any sudden decisions. Sometimes people will surprise you. If you find it absolutely horrible and people are giving you a hard time for your race, at least you'll have a stronger reason for the school to allow you to attend another school district. And if worst comes to worst, do the online thing.

(If your depression continues, I recommend you talk to a mental health professional. From what you say here, it seems situational and should resolve as your situation changes. However, if you're still having problems, you may need to see a therapist and/or try an anti-depressant.)
