Is there any words that start and end with X?A quick Google search gives me just three, Xerox and Xanax as was mentioned by Brianna Keffeler, and XIX, though I doubt that should be counted. For things like this, there are actually quite a few handy tools out there that can do the searching for you. How do you use apostrophes in words ending with X, S, and Z?
X and Z - always add ‘s (e.g. Alex's, Liz's, box's, six's, blitz's, topaz's, quiz's. “Alex' house” is not proper English any more than “Peter' house” is). Same for SH, CH, J, ZH (e.g. bush's, watch's, hajj's, ezh's, Josh's, Mitch's, Raj's). Also, all these words (generally) pluralize with “-es”S - normally you have a choice of ‘s or just ‘ , with an exception for ancient names (they tend to have no extra S, e.g. Jesus' disciples, Xerxes' reign, Pythagoras' theorem), and plurals (always just an apostrophe, unless the plural doesn't end in S, e.g. boys’, men's), and some special cases (e.g. for goodness' sake). For me, if it ends in an S sound, I always add ‘s, no matter how many Ss are at the end (e.g. James's, Thomas's, Chris's, Jess's, Ross's, atlas's, boss's), if it ends in a Z sound, if it's one syllable, I generally add ‘s (e.g. Jones's, Woods's, lens's), and if it looks like (or happens to be) a plural, I just add ‘ (e.g. Matthews', Andrews', Vines', Simmons', series', species').Otherwise, I just use whichever I think sounds/looks better, if I would pluralize it with “-es” like crosses, buses, Jesses or Jameses, I add ‘s, if I would leave it the same in the plural like series, species, Andrews, or Simmons, I add just ‘.
