Does the United Nations work with the military?
The US and the UN have very a broad common goal of maintaining global stability. Historically, there has been a division of labor between the US and UN with regards to some conflict areas where the US or a close ally has a particular interest. The US would use its military force to remove political and military obstacles. Then the UN would come in for nation building/stabilization.As a general rule, the UN does not come in until the region is mostly pacified. This keeps the UN’s hands clean and helps them maintain an appearance of neutrality among local factions. Frankly, the function of UN Peacekeepers more akin to police than soldiers. Similarly, the UN usually does not work with the military directly. The one exception is when the US military is performing a humanitarian function.

Now this is the direct pathway, apart from that if a person is in the ruling party, has outstanding educational qualifications and stands quite high in the party’s hierarchy then usually the government sends them as high commissioners or ambassadors to other countries or sometimes even the UN.However apart from that if you’re not obsessed with representing India in the UN and are content to work as an official then there are many opportunities. Some like the field based officers, some research based etc. This usually depends on what area of specialization you selected in your master’s. Apart from that in case of diplomats, an undergraduate degree in international relations helps then masters done from abroad. Also you can be a doctor and work at WHO, be an environment research scientist work at UNFCCC or UNEP and the list goes on.Apart from that if you are a MUN enthusiast by any chance, then of course now the prospects seem amazing but very few MUNers make it to UN. And most of them don’t because naturally a BTEch or a B.Des from some random college can’t get anyone anywhere near UN. So if you’re serious about your profession, choose your undergraduate degree then masters carefully.Hope that helps !

If you are an undergraduate mechanical engineer from a reputed college or university then you have chances for working UNO or RCS.... But first you have to gain some strong experience from few reputed MNC companies.... Generally, engineering is not so much required in UNO but there are a lot of opportunities for Mechanical Engineers in NASA......Better you pursue for your postgraduate studies from an accede-rated university or gain a very strong experience from good companies.........
