Why don't most people care about pollution?
Have you ever heard about how lobsters are cooked?If you threw it at boiling water it would try to escape, but if you heated the water slowly, the lobster would die slowly and without resisting.We humans are the lobster.It’s true that nobody likes pollution in theory.In practice the harsh truth is that pollution effects are so long term most people don’t even notice them and they might as a well not be there.Yes, pollution is bad, but its subtlety is what makes it dangerous.You see polluted air from the outskirts of your city and you worry. But in your everyday life, it’s pretty much invisible.Though you might wonder why there are no starsWe hear how separating trash is important. And it is. But in your average day life. As as soon as the garbage man takes it, it stops being relevant in your life.Global warming is real. No doubt. But you have to admit, it’s not something your average person would discover on their own. It really is invisible.Even an intelligent scientist like Richard Muller was (but not anymore) skeptical about global warming.Those melting ice caps? You only see them in photos.Climate being weirder? Days being warmer? Most people shrug it offIt’s not like you can change climate anyway, right? (Wrong)This is a danger your instincts warn you about.But this?It just doesn’t happen as naturally.
What would happen to our city if there were no pollution?
People would be healthier (no air pollution, no water pollution, no poisoned foods) There would be more animals and more plants (no air pollution, no ground pollution) There would be no more smog (no air pollution) water would be drinkable from any pool you can find (No water pollution)
Why would Marlee Matlin become an actress? Nobody writes roles for deaf people! How many acting jobs can a deaf person get?
I realize handicapped people want to be accepted and they want to prove they can do anything everybody else can do, but let's face reality. Marlee Matlin is deaf! There are plenty of acting roles that a deaf actress just cannot do. Could she play a superhero character? Of course not! Why would she be surprised that she can't find any acting jobs??
Why does communist/social china have worst corruption, pollution, food safety, abuse of power problems?
well let's see... united states has pollution problem, australia and new zealand and untied states and UK all had food safety problems in recent years. As to abuse of power, let's not forget about what happened in IRAQ eh? OK what's your problem? ALL countries on planet earth have problems, as far as I concern, there're parts of China that are polluted, but there're other 80% of the country that are pollution free. I'm not saying this is OK, but it's also not like what you think. Virtually all Chinese people are much better off than they were back in 1978 before the reform started. That my friend, means at least 900 million Chinese who've been thru the hard times in 1978 were lifted outta poverty, would you rather deny that? Would your rather go back to 1978? C'mon, let's not kidding ourselves. @FREAKLY: now what makes you claim that more than 20% of China are polluted? it's less than that, you keep focusing on big cities such as Beijing etc, In fact the 2nd largest city in china Shanghai is not even polluted... Anywho, BIG CITIES IN CHINA ONLY ACCOUNTS FOR LESS THAN 3% OF ITS LAND MASS. The entire Qing Hai and Xi Zang (i.e. tibet, but DO NOT CALL IT TIBET, AS THE CORRECT SPELLING SHOULD BE XI ZANG !) ARE POLLUTION FREE, AREN'T THEY? THAT MY FRIEND ALREADY ACCOUNTS FOR 50% OF CHINESE LAND MASS, most rural area in China are not polluted, otherwise how could you have GUILIN and ZHANGJIAJIE, WHERE AVATAR WAS SHOT !, C'mon freakly, let's not kidding ourselves...
Why is there an ozone hole at Antarctica and not at the Arctic Circle or the equator?
Despite not having any significant source , the abundance of CFC in Antarctica is quite high.That’s because of Atmospheric mixing. CFC’s are very stable molecules- so stable that they survive to reach the highest levels of the atmosphere, and remotest corner of the globe- the Antarctica. It’s not that only Antarctica have abundance of CFC’s.Then why Ozone hole appear over Antarctic only?It’s because of this-Fig: The Polar Stratospheric clouds (PSC) over Antarctica.and this-Fig: Polar vortex.Causes of Ozone Depletion over AntarcticaThe ozone hole is most significant over Antarctica because it has just the right atmospheric and chemical conditions required to destroy ozone by reactive halogen gases (such as CFC’s)The formation of Polar Vortex- strong circular winds that blows around the continent- provide isolation. Isolation prevents substantial motion of air into or out of the polar stratosphere.The formation of PSC require very low temperature, sunlight and . Antarctic has it all. Though both Polar regions have extremely low temperatures,during the Antarctic winter, minimum daily temperatures are generally much lower and less variable than in the Arctic winter. Antarctic temperatures also remain below the PSC formation temperature for much longer periods during winter. Reactions on the surfaces of these PSCs release reactive chlorine gas, chlorine monoxide (ClO). Chlorine destroys Ozone.The ozone hole is present over the Antarctica because of the unique atmospheric conditions, and constant feeding of CFC’s from the lower latitudes- thanks to long shelf life and redistribution by convection forces.
