What Would Happen If An Under 18 Drank Alcohol In A Place He Hired Uk

Can under 18's drink alcohol at a privately hired public house?

Its coming up to my 18th birthday and I was thinking of hiring out a venue such as a pub for the night. But most of my friends are aged 16 or 17 and I want to know if they are able to drink there?

Laws on underage drinking in privately hired venues? UK?

So, me and my friends were planning on hiring a hall in a hotel for our 17th birthday and was wondering what the laws about underage drinking actually say? If we hire the hall are we allowed to bring our own alcohol or will the hotel get in trouble if we're caught? We will be 17 but a majority of the guest will be 16.

I just wana know what the law actually states on this matter and whether the hotel would be the one that's liable or whether we would be?

Thanks :)

Can I drink alcohol if I rent a venue (UK)?

It depends. UK law states that anyone over the age of 5 can consume alcohol on private premises with parental consent. Basically, any venue you can rent isn't classified as private premises, so if you're under the age of 18, then legally speaking, no you can't drink alcohol. However, if you rent a venue without a bar, and that is unstaffed, then who's going to report you? Not that I would advocate unlawful behaviors.

What would happen if the minimum legal drinking age was raised to 40?

The same thing that happened during prohibition. If somehow they changed the drinking age to forty, and kept it that way, then people under the legal age would just find illegal ways to get alcohol. Most likely there would be people illegally manufacturing and distributing alcohol. This would just cause a massive illegal alcohol trade to develop, which would allow criminals to decide who can buy alcohol and how much it costs. Obviously this means minors would have easier access to alcohol.Legal establishments that produce and distribute alcohol would take a massive hit, since they'd lose such a major portion of their customer base. That means bars and liquor stores closing, prices for legal alcohol shooting up, and companies like Jack Daniel’s and Budweiser laying off a lot of employees. Some alcohol manufacturers might even go out of business altogether.Since people wouldn't be at bars as much and there would be no regulation for alcohol content or quality control, there would also be more alcohol related injuries and deaths. People wouldn't be in bars, so bartenders wouldn't be able to cut them off when they're too drunk or stop them from driving home drunk. That leads to more DUI’s, alcohol related traffic collisions, and increased likelihood that people will get alcohol poisoning or drink booze that contains methanol and other contaminants. You also have to take into consideration the demand for resources in order to enforce the change in laws. You have to be able to prosecute, incarcerate, and possibly rehabilitate offenders. Officers have to deal with people in their twenties just having a beer, jails and prisons have to accommodate the influx of people in for alcohol charges, and courts have to process all of these individuals. And it's tax payers who have to foot the bill for all this.Overall there's really no benefit to increasing the legal drinking age so drastically, and a hell of a lot of negatives associated with it. It would be expensive and dangerous. There's also a few other things it would negatively affect, but for the sake of time I won't go into all that.

Can you be arrested for attempting to purchase alcohol underage?

Absolutely.Even if you with a bunch of people and are 20, some places take carding very seriously. One of my favorite young guys, who’s all but my daughter’s step-brother (his mother provided daycare for my daughter for years, and she is BFF with his sister), who’s one of the nicest, handsomest, most agreeable and generally law abiding people I’ve ever met, got arrested at a local supermarket in our “friendly” burg for attempting to purchase alcohol. After that, he was continually harassed by the local police. He bought a different car, he was so desperate.I taught him how to swing on a rope swing across a river when he was 8.Sure, he probably was going to drink a beer or two. No, I don’t think a lot of teens should be using alcohol. But…c’mon, here was this mostly law abiding adult, who now feels like life is living hell, because of the arrest. It’s harder for him to get jobs. He had to spend some time in the local cooler (jail) while his parents posted bond. The police were not nice. So…just don’t go there.

My underage friend drank my beer at a party. What would happen if he/I got caught? I wouldn't give it to him, he's just an alcoholic and took it.

The MIP (Minor In Possession) laws differ from state to state, so you will need to look those up for your state. Some of the laws deal with parental scenarios in which it was furnished by a parent and when that is permissible, but there should be some general language in those laws for the situation you describe. Just a guess, but you’d likely need to prove you didn’t provide the alcohol, and that you also made some effort to prevent it from being taken without your knowledge. Having it readily available and telling your underage friends not to touch it likely isn’t good enough. In any event, you’d probably need to hire a lawyer if you plan on contesting any charges.

Can a 16 year old drink in a pub in Ireland?

The drinking age is 18 so legally, you can't, but I'm pretty sure every Irish person has gotten into a bar under 18. I just turned 18 but I've been going to pubs and nightclubs here for nearly 3 years. Where I live, they rarely check IDs unless you're obviously like 12. It depends where you go though. In Dublin and other cities, they will be strict on ID. If you go to more rural areas, they won't be that strict. You can just keep trying different places until you find somewhere that will let you in. If they ask for ID, just say you don't have it on you and see what happens. The worst that can happen is that they say no. So it's worth a try. Just depends where you go. Since you're a tourist, I'm gonna assume you'll probably be going to Dublin city.. won't be very easy getting served there. I have been out in Dublin and gone to the popular bars/clubs and they've checked my ID each time (luckily I had my older sister's ID to use).

Would people hire an 18 year old bartender?

I've been talking about enrolling in a bartending school and getting my RSA as soon as I can. I turn 18 in 2 weeks and I talked to my mom about this. She said that she doesn't want to enroll me in a class unless I was certain I could get a job at 18. I know it's legal to, but she is thinking that because I am younger, it will be very difficult to get a job. Is it hard for an 18 year old to find a job bartending?

Now, I've worked at the second busiest panera bread on NY as a main consolidator- so the pressure of bartending shouldn't be a problem. If I told the employer this, would that help my chances?

Thanks in advance!
