What Would Make Your Lower Back Hurt Terribly And When You Stand Up The Pain Shoots Down My Leg Plz

I slipped and fell down and now my lower back hurts. What do I do now?

It depends on where exactly you are feeling the pain as to how to treat it.Firstly you should go to a professional physiotherapist or doctor to get a scan to properly diagnose what it is.I am not a physiotherapist and can’t give advice but can tell you how I have fixed my own lower back issues through physiotherapy and a lot self treatment. Also, is the pain radiating down one of your legs? Or up into your lower back area?If it is down one of the legs, it is possible you have some compression in one of the the lower lumbar discs. To help alleviate this, you can decompress it by putting your lower back in traction - easiest way I could do this was to let my legs hang while in a dip station (see pic):It’s the best pic I could find. You don’t need to raise the legs or work your abs, just breathe, relax and let them hang for 20–30 seconds at a time. This will take a lot of pressure off the spine. You can also lay on the ground and have a friend lift and pull your legs or think of your own variation. If the pain is radiating upwards, it is likely an issue with your gluteus minimus or gluteus medius. To help this, you need to stretch and massage it to release it. See pics:If you google or type ‘glute stretch and massage’ into youtube you will find a wealth of info on how to do it and will explain better than I could :)That is just a start. You still should go to have it professionally diagnosed but these exercises will help alleviate the pain.I hope this helps.

Pain in leg and lower back (off and on)- what is wrong with me?

Please help! I am 32, female, mother of an almost-4-year-old and a 13-month-old.

A week ago I started getting an ache off and on in my upper right leg. It would come and go. Was worried about it and went to the ER where they did an ultrasound on the top and inside of upper leg, back of knee, and some of my calf, looking for blood clots. There were none. They didn't do anything further.
The next day I started getting pains/aching off and on in my calf and top of my foot. I also got some slight aching in my left thigh.
Then the day before yesterday I started having terrible pains in my lower back. I would be fine standing up, but if I bent over to a certain point there will be terrible pain all across my lower back, and into my butt. Sometimes it's in my back, butt and leg. Other times just one or the other.

What the heck is wrong? I don't think it's sciatica since it's not down the back of my leg but in the front and sides. Also, the aching started in my upper leg way before the back pain came. I do think the back pain could be from the way I'm lifting my 22-lb toddler, but it's still weird I was having leg pain first.

Help!

Why does my back hurt when I lie down?

The most common reason why our back hurts, especially when we lie down, is muscle strain. We tend to strain our muscles when we lift heavy objects and move things around, much more so when we are doing it in an incorrect manner. The pulled muscle in our back tends to hurt more when we lie down.Another reason why people experience back pain, particularly when lying down, is because of age. Our spine is much more prone to wear and tear as we grow older. Hence, we can be diagnosed with arthritis or disc degeneration, which becomes awfully painful when we lie down.We can also attribute the back pain we feel when lying down due to different medical conditions, such as a tumor in our spine, or scoliosis. There is a direct pressure in our spine when we lie down, which is why back pain is more imminent if we have specific medical conditions. Our sleeping position can also affect how we feel the next day. We can either wake up feeling relaxed and well-rested, or haggard and in pain. Try lying on your side with a pillow between your knees to keep your spine aligned, relieving the strain on your back.Tempted to stay in bed and not to go to work because of that back pain? Convince yourself to get up and move along because lying is one of the worst things that alleviates back pain. Get physical and move. Your back will thank you for it.Perhaps the article in this link can be of much help. And on another note, you can also check out my answer to “How do I get rid of back problems?” to say goodbye to your back pain for good.

Overstretching leg when sleeping resulting in lots of pain in the back of the leg.. what should I do?

Usually happens very, very early in the morning when I'm sleeping (generally 6AM-9:30AM) I know I stretch my leg.. but then it's like I overstretch it and suddenly get this terrible pain in the back of my lower leg.

I don't understand what's happening.. Is there a way to prevent myself from overstretching my legs while I sleep?

I can still feel the strain throughout the day due to this problem. :(

I had a sharp shooting pain when I put my right leg on the floor and now I cant walk, what could this be?

Thank you for the A2A.What could this be?I think this could be time you go see your doctor.Your doctor will need to look at your personal and medical history, take a detailed history of what led up too this event and note all the features associated with the event.  Then he will examine you and do a couple of basic investigations before he develops a working diagnosis on what the problem is.We could speculate all day but in the end you would still have to go see your doctor to get any answers and any relief.Generally speaking, sharp pains are associated with nerve impingements.  These can happen at multiple places along the path of the nerve, including the lower back from where the leg nerves emerge.Signs and symptoms associated with nerves can be very urgent or more chronic (long-standing).Any new, sudden, incapacitating and unexplained sensations or loss of function must be investigated by a licensed physician as soon as possible.Nothing is gained by wasting time.Good luck!

Lower back pain and curve in spine?

Sounds painful! Backs are VERY complicated so it's good that you got an appointment with specialist / doctor. Honestly, I don't know what it could be and I'm not sure anybody cept your doctor with all his x-rays and diagnostic tools should answer that.

However, I've found a few things have helped me a TON with this sort of thing. Like laying flat on your back with feet up on a chair so your legs are at a 90 degree angle from the ground. Then relax and let your back flatten with the ground.

You can also get a massage or do self myofascial release. Simply take a pool toy or foam roller and roll it under your back. Works great. For better isolation / deeper massage you can use a tennis ball.

Shoes can play an important role as well. If you wear a lot of shoes with elevated heels then that throws your pelvis and lower back off which can cause pain and discomfort.

Just a couple things for thought. Hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

Why do I get extreme lower back pain when laying on my side?

Lower back pain when lying is a special type of back pain that could indicate a serious problem with your spine. If you are experiencing Lower Back Pain when lying down, the first and most important area to look at is your laying position – in particular if you are uncomfortable when lying in bed. Learning to sleep and lay down correctly is very important in stopping the onset of low back pain.Alright, so you’re going to have to trust me on this next one – your spine wants to be perfectly aligned all day.Standing, sitting, walking, sleeping – your spine really only has one optimal position, although it’s obviously built to accommodate flexibility and constant motion. When you mess up that natural, optimal alignment for too long (like when you sit at work for 8 hours and get terrible lower back pain) it gives you terrible back painHere’s your normal spine:Problems and Proper Sleep Positions To Prevent Back Pain When SleepingProblem #1: The lower back is overly archedDepending on how tight your hips are, if your legs are too straight, it will pull the lower back into an arched position. If your legs are too bent, tight hamstrings will pull the lower back into an overly-rounded position. The key is to find the sweet spot in-between.Problem #2: The back is overly roundedFor many of us with tight hamstrings, tucking the legs up too close to the chest will result in an over-rounding of the lower back.Proper Position When Sleeping On Your Side In Fetal PositionThere are a number of reasons for this: first – just from personal experience, sleeping on your back is generally the easiest way to aggravate the fewest number of things (well, except for snoringwell, except for snoringWhen you sleep on your side, you have to worry about your back alignment, neck alignment, your hips twisting, etc. When you sleep on your back there is less than can go wrong and fewer variables to experiment with to get comfortableI hope my answer can help you anyway.
