I converted my garage into a bedroom. I enclosed the gas hot water heater in a utility closet. It does have

hi there- becuase this is a bedroom there are things you need to due to the closet such as weather strip the door and self closing hinges as such. national fuel gas code section 9.28.1 --- also for your venting if you punched through the wall and didnt go to a chimney i hope you did this with bvent and not smoke pipe?? national fuel gas code section 10.6.1 will walk you through.-----also for your venting and intake of your combstion air refer to section 8.2. this will tell you that the reason for your vents is to bring in air and that will be 8.3.2.3. one opening will be cut 12 inches on top and one will be cut 12 inches on bottom. i went into detail and gave you the specific section from memory. these are not well maybe's and i think's and not here go to this website. you are dealing with a SERIOUS ISSUE THAT WHEN NOT FOLLOWED RIGHT WILL KILL YOU..... my advice to you is dont cut any corners. do it the right way. its for your safety and any one else who is going to be in there

How would l reverse a closet to an adjacent room?

First determine if it is a load bearing wall or not. If it is a load bearing wall then it's a bigger deal, if not, it's fairly simple.

Load bearing: You'll have to build temporary walls to hold the ceiling while you do your work. You'll also have to build larger headers to go across the top of the doors. If it's a load bearing wall I would recommend hiring someone to do it, at least the framing.

If it's not load bearing it's a lot easier. To reuse the doors, measure the opening, add 3/4" on all sides for the jamb then add 3/4" on all sides and this gives you your rough opening. Once you open your walls and remove the studs, this is the opening you want to build with your 2x4s.

Google "how to frame a door" and you'll get more than you need to do the framing.

Before you start, look at electrical switches and outlets, because it's probable that you'll have to rewire a few things.

Then you'll have to replace the wall covering, most likely sheetrock, so plan for that, or hire someone to come in after you to finish.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Imagine you are in a dark room with a locked door. you don't have a key and there are no windows. How do you get out?

It is dark, so I'd shut my eyes, they won't be used, so I should not waste energy or time on trying to use the them in this situation, but focus on what I can use, and how - the first lesson is ACCEPTANCEThen, I would carefully search for the door with my own hands - the second lesson is to TAKE AN ACTION, (RE)ACT.When I found the locked door I had no keys to open, I would politely "knock knock" on it (because I have no idea of the reasons why I was closed there, and I should inspire myself on the information given so may my answer be as complete as it is) and wait till it would be open - the third lesson is to KEEP IT SIMPLE AND LOGIC.(AND KNOW THAT IF THERE WAS A WAY IN, SO THERE MUST ALWAYS BE A WAY OUT.)If nobody would open it to me, after that...Then it would take another riddle. Because this one is already solved - the last but not the least lesson: FOCUS. - YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON YOUR PROBLEM, AND IN THE MOST REASONABLE SOLUTION FOR IT. DON'T FOCUS ON YOUR FEAR, IT WOULD INCREASE YOUR ANXIETY AND CREATE ENDLESS SCENARIOS OF WHAT ELSE COULD BE GOING ON, UNTIL YOU HAVE WASTE ALL YOUR ENERGIES IN THOSE "APOCALYPTIC" HYPOTHESIS, WHICH WILL GROW BIGGER AND MORE COMPLEX IN YOUR MIND, CREATING NEW PROBLEMS TO YOURSELF, BY YOURSELF. ONE PROBLEM = ONE SOLUTION. TRAIN YOUR MIND, FOR LOGIC AND PRAGMATISTSo, in conclusion, the best way of solve this situation (or any situation challenging you), is to Accept it and (Re)Act to it, using Simplicity and Logic during all the process, without losing Focus on what that especific problem is, and the best solution to solve it you can use.Thinking outside the box isn't a choise, it is a necessity. But valuable creativity has nothing to do with nonsense and complexity in unnecessary doses. And you will only do it properly when you are able to combine logic, cleverness, simplicity and reduce the waste of time and energy to its lowest levels. It takes time, practice, and emotional structure. But it is possible. Be smart. You can do it ;)Patricia.

How can you officially convert a dining room into a bedroom?

you have to make sure that there is at least 1 window and 4 walls with a closeable door. Make sure also that there is electrical ran for at least 2 walls and install some form of a closet. To be a usable bedroom i would say that the size needs to be atleast 10' wide x 12' long.

Good Luck

I am painting my room walls chocolate mousse color. What color do you think i should paint my closets & ceilin

How about a vanilla colored off-white for your closet doors and trim, and paint the ceilings the same color as the walls. Crown moulding in the vanilla color would look awesome too! BTW - painting the ceiling the same color as the walls actually makes the room look bigger because there's no ending point on the walls to draw your eye to. This is a trick used in rooms that have lower ceilings.

Furnishing a 6x12 Bedroom?

A futon is a pain to put up and take down. And it takes up a lot more room than you think once you get it.
Even though they've been kind of "out of style", a day bed would work good in this room. Day beds give small rooms the appearance that they're actually bigger and taller. Use only light colored bedding, because darker colors make things appear huge. If you could paint a wall in this room, I'd paint the 6' wall at the head of your bed a darker color, like red, blue, green purple, whatever you like.
put your desk behind the door on the other 6' wall, and put shelves all along the 6' wall above the desk. This will make up for lost space you don't have for books, nicknacks, pictures, etc. If there's a window on the opposite side where the bed would go then get a small feminin bench to go under the window. I'm not talking a plain kitchen or school looking bench, but wrather a decorative type with a cushion, or just a chair would work okay next to the window by the closet. Have the cushion a darker color, though.
Also put a "saying" above the closet door and your bedroom door and window. A saying is like a thought painted onto wood, or maybe a floral decoration or something else that matches your style. For some reason this makes a room appear larger as well. Just over the closet door would be enough also.
If you get a rug for this room, make sure it's thin and of a lighter shade. Drapes should be lace or sheer or white and should go to the floor and be hung just outside the sides of the window to make the window appear larger as well.

Good luck! Hope I helped!
