What are some unique souvenirs from the Bahamas?

Depending on what your in to but since living here I would say any local bahamian artist work. Whether that be paint, metal work, wood, sculptures, ceramics...There are many very talented (and world recognized) artists that reside here. While like the case of many artist around the world, they are not really appreciated in their own country.  IF you visit Nassau, would encourage you to visit Doongalik Studio, as well as NAGB (national art galery of the Bahamas), and Popop Studio for examples and opportunities to meet artist and their work.

What is a unique souvenir that represents Seattle, Washington?

Since Seattle is the home of Starbuck’s and the first store was at Seattle’s Pike Place Market (a tourist attraction), a Pike Place Market/Starbuck’s coffee mug is a unique souvenir from Seattle.

What is unique to the UK that would make a good souvenir? I like to get souvenirs which are unique to a location, such as a carpet from Turkey, a cuckoo clock from Germany, or glass from Murano.

Most people will get a keyring or a fridge magnet with the tower of London on it, or a red London bus.If you go further afield, maybe Scotland or Wales or even Ireland, then something that represents that country. My Aussie ex partner would buy loads of keyrings and stuff like that, to take back home. She bought about 30 of them for her friends and colleagues. One of her friends collected stamps from around the world, so we sent the friend a postcard from each place so they had the stamp.I’ve got a load of different whisky shotglasses from around the world. It depends on your budget and how many people you want to buy things for. I always took things like a boomerang, or a stuffed koala toy, things like that for my kids when I came back from Australia. It’s whatever says to the other person, hey look where I’ve been. Or to show their friends, look what I’ve got. You get the idea…Always be aware of getting whatever it is you bought, back home safely. Will it break on the plane in your suitcase? Is it made of wood - not allowed in Australia, think of the weight in your suitcase, can you actually carry it with you? Can you put it into your carry-on or in your checked luggage? Is it too heavy? Is there an import duty? Are you over your limit on alcohol or tobacco allowances? Do you need to declare it to customs when you fly home? Most countries won’t allow you to bring food in, unless you declare it to customs. I see it all the time, Chinese people bringing loads of food in and not declaring it, and getting hit with a heavy fine and losing the food.

What are the best souvenirs from cruises?

To generalize, the best souvenir from a cruise is something personal. In many ports of call, you’ll find the same stores. Whether you’re in Juneau, Alaska or Nassau, the Bahamas, you’ll quite literally find the exact same stores selling the exact same jewelry, knickknacks, and clothing, though the companies are large and successful enough to vary them just enough to generally match the “theme” of the port you’re visiting. I say ignore all of them, unless there’s a specific collectible — shot glasses, spoons, magnets — that you like to gather from your destinations.Rather, go a few blocks out of your way to the shops that, while still catering to cruise tourists, are owned and operated by people that actually live there (and therefore can’t afford that expensive dockside storefront!). You’ll find some souvenirs in shops like these that will probably be more unique, draw up more specific memories, and have a better story attached to them*. Some of the souvenirs of which I am the most fond are related to a specific activity I engaged in while I was there.Remember, the entire purpose of a souvenir is to serve as a physical incarnation of a memory from a journey. Make sure that memory is a good one — and one you’re unlikely to find in every other port in the world — and the souvenir will be a terrific one.*Incidentally, this often means the best souvenirs are relatively inexpensive!
