I want to make youtube videos. Should I buy a webcam or camcorder?

If you want to do greenscreen shots, then the cleaner the image, the easier it will be compositing it. The prime factors in how clean your image looks are:Lighting Look up some tutorials on YouTube on lighting and compositing a greenscreen. Here's one I found with a quick search: CameraDo you already have an upper-end phone camera? If so, you have something better than most webcams and cheap camcorders to shoot with. You will probably want to get a 3rd-party smartphone video app that enables full manual control over exposure and recording bitrate. If you don't have a good smartphone camera, then I would suggest looking for a used DSLR in decent shape. The sensor will likely be a little less sensitive than you might like, but with enough light it'll give you a solid-looking image, and both compression artifacts and sensor noise should be low enough to work. Don't go crazy over lens prices - just use one of the kit lenses. If you have enough light, try not shoot with the lens wide open (lowest F-stop) for best sharpness. Each lens has different image characteristics, so try a few test shots at different F-stops to see what looks the best.Keep an eye on your ISO as well - the lower, the better. Higher ISOs introduce a lot of noise in the image, and as such are not good for clean composites. A lower F-stop is generally preferable to a higher ISO for this sort of work, unless you luck out and get a camera with great built-in noise reduction. For both a smartphone and a DSLR, you're probably going to want to use a secondary audio recording source. You can get a cheap (but well-rated) lavalier mic for $20 that will outperform either camera's built-in mics. Your smartphone may have audio recording adapters you can get for it, and most DSLRs have a mic jack that works with consumer mics. If you have a laptop to spare, you can also plug the mic into that and use a program like Audacity to record with. You would then just have to sync the sound file with the audio from your camera's internal mic(s). Whatever you choose, make sure to set your recording level manually for best-sounding results (unless you really vary your voice volume).
