Whats The Best Volunteer Place To Help Animals

Can a guy volunteer at an animal shelter?

I'm a 29 year old man. Do animal shelters typically let men volunteer there? What are the requirements? I really like animals and want to make their lives better. But I want the majority of my time at the shelter to be interaction with the animals and not just cleaning cages.

Thank you

Where are the best places to volunteer in New York?

That's a very subjective question. I don't know how you define "best." What I think is best may not be what you think is best. This web page:How to Find Volunteering Opportunitieshttp://www.coyotecommunications....provides a plethora of links and a lot of specific ideas regarding volunteering. It's a mix of traditional and beyond "the usual." It includes instructions on how to find specific volunteering opportunities (with animals, with children, just for one day, etc.).

What would be fun places to volunteer at?

im 14 and i need something to keep me occupied. i think volunteering would be my best option. last year i volunteered at an animal shelter for about two months, but then i quit because the employees there were really rude. after that i was thinking of volunteering at my states wildlife center, but they wont put the orientation dates on the website (it always says TBA). so please dont tell me to volunteer at any of those places.

What's a good way to start volunteering with animals? I’ve never owned a pet.

One way to volunteer to help homeless dogs and cats is to walk dogs at the local animal services or socialize the cats. Shelter staff feed the animals and clean their compartments but your volunteer work helps the dogs and cats pass the long hours awaiting adoption. Shelters encourage volunteers to participate and provide training.A way to help injured wild animals is to volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center where staff care for them with the goal of reintroducing them back to the wild. I don't know what roles volunteers fill at rehabilitation centers as I have only volunteered at an animal services. But examples of wildlife rehabilitation centers are the center in Ft. Lauderdale here in south Florida and another for injured sea birds in the Florida keys. Both are run by the Humane Society. There are numerous animal sanctuaries around which serve as safe places for wolves or elephants or abandoned or confiscated exotic pets such as tiger cubs and more. Volunteer opportunities are certainly available in these as well.

I want to volunteer at a dog/animal shelter?

Hi,

I think it's great you want to volunteer at a shelter. More people need to do volunteer work (as do more adults). The best way to get specific information is to check out the website of the shelter you want to volunteer at. Remember, shelters are all different around the country and it's a big country, so even if my local shelter requires you to be 16, your local shelter may have different policies.

Another local shelter accepts 13 year old volunteers IF they have an adult with them. They usually clean cages/litter boxes and work on making or repairing toys. In one local shelter, they can help dog walk as long as the adult holds a second lead attached to the dog.

Good luck!

Edit: Emura, can you provide federal legislation references that state that it's illegal for anyone under 16 to volunteer at a shelter?? Or are you quoting from YOUR local shelter and making generalizations, forgetting that it's a BIG country and that each shelter/rescue group mkaes their own rules?
If you can provide federal statutes, I would love to see them so I can learn something new today and amend my answers. Thanks!

Edit II: So, Emura, it's NOT illegal as you stated. It's based on limited information from a few shelters you've worked with so you generalized and said it was the federal rule for ALL shelters. Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
My experience with shelters is that 16 or 18 is often the minimum age to handle the animals without supervision. Sorry to hear that your local shelter is 14 before they allow ANY volunteer work. Keep googling and maybe you can find another group that needs help, even if it's just filing and putting stamps on letters!

Where is a good place to volunteer?

I was thinking my church, the reason is because I hardly go. And feel like I need to go just to go. Something that won't take up too much time because I have things to do, I work weekend mornings but have afternoons off, and I also want to do it because I heard it helps for resumes for jobs and things. trying to straighten up this year away from drugs and all that so far I'm doing good, I like shoes, animals, music, a lot of things actually, maybe animal shelters?? FYI I'M 15

What are some good places to volunteer?

"Good places" is relative. What I think is "good" might be incredibly boring to you, and vice versa.
