Whats The Difference Between A Janitor And A Custodian

What is the difference of janitor and custodian?

Nothing. Custodial arts! sounds more PC.

Whats the difference between a janitor and a custodian?

New title for the same job. Like a flight attendant vs stewardess or secretary vs administrative assistant.

What's the difference between a custodian and a janitor?

In many situations it's just a matter of political correctness (or saying things in the most positive way). Today custodian is considered as preferable to janitor; people think it makes the job sound more important.

What is the difference between a janitor and a custodian?

A custodian implies responsibility for the operations.A janitor implies responsibility solely for cleaning.A janitor might report broken items found, a custodian would be responsible for ensuring they get fixed.

Is there a difference between janitors and custodians?

It's all this "political correctness" nonsense that causes us to try to change a name or title to sound better than what it really is.

If a person can not see, he is blind, period. He is NOT visually impaired, as though with a little help he can see at least a little.

If a person collects garbage from house to house, he is a garbage collector.

If a person mops the floor, he is a janitor.

In today's society, you aren't allowed to "call a spade, a spade". You must dress things up and cover the facts with cute phrases and other terms.

But "A rose, by any other name, smells just as sweet" (~Shakespeare), but the opposite is just as true, "A pile of human excrement, by any other name, smells just as disgusting." You can cover over the fact with a more polite term, but you can't hide the "aroma".

There is nothing wrong with being either a janitor OR a custodian. and if a person IS one, they should work to the best of their ability, and what EVER they do, they should do it to the glory of God. It is only today's society that says that this kind of work is looked down upon and so must be given a better title or name. They are wrong. What ever you do, be proud of what you do, because others depend on you. (Just think what the world would be like if garbage collectors, janitors, etc, were to quit doing what they do. We depend on them MORE than we depend on the presidents, the vice-presidents, and the CEOs. I don't even have contact with these people in my job! My supervisor and department head are the only people that I have contact with, and that isn't all that often to begin with. If the "janitors" didn't do their job at night, I wouldn't be able to do MY job during the day. I appreciate what they do, even if I don't have the opportunity to tell them.

(Oops - sorry - I got side tracked by a little "pet peeve" of mine. I hope that somewhere in all this, I answered your question - heh heh heh - oops ;-}

Edit: And yes, "It's a dirty job, but SOME body has to do it." is very true. (*grin*)

What is the difference (if any) between a janitor and a custodian?

Well, the job is the same, but custodian sounds classier than janitor.

Is there a difference in calling a person a janitor or a custodian who works as one?

It really depends on the worker. Some find the term demoralizing.A custodian can sometimes be used for someone who does more than cleaning. Back in the day a custodian would also be responsible for building security, maintaining the boilers, fan systems, etc. Now days with separate security teams and building maintenance workers the term custodian carries less meaning for people who strictly clean.Cleaning Attendant, Sanitation Engineer, Custodian, Janitor, it doesn't really matter except to the person doing the job. I prefer janitor.

What is the difference between a custodian and a broker?

The custodian is the entity responsible for safekeeping client assets. A broker provides trade execution services.  For most brokerage accounts, the brokerage firm also serves as custodian.Large institutions and some ultra high net worth investors choose to have a custodian relationship that is separate from broker trade execution services.  The client hires the custodian and the investment manager and allows the investment manager to trade through the broker of their choice. In a separately managed account framework, a client can use either structure.  They can hire individual managers and a custodian and allow the managers to direct trades at their discretion or they can hire the individual managers and utilize a broker for custody and trade execution. In the case of the broker as custodian, most client agreements provide a “best execution” provision.   This allows the investment manager to trade “away” (through another broker) if they find that the other broker would provide better trade execution for a particular trade than the broker/custodian.  In that case, the trade would still settle with the broker/custodian.  This provision is used frequently by fixed income managers.
