Whats The Sparkplug Gap For A 1990 4.3 V6

GMC Sonoma spark plug gap?

Spark Plug replacement.

Use only the factory specified spark plugs, accept no substitutes!

NGK plugs are NOT AC/Delco plugs! Hopefully they are still in the box so you can take them back and exchange them for the correct plugs.

Always use the factory specified plug in every automotive engine. I can not count the number of times I have traced a drive ability or emission failure to non factory spark plugs. Despite the fact that they are cross referenced to match the application, spark plugs manufactured by any other company are not identical to the factory plugs which are designed from scratch to provide optimum performance for the specific engine involved.

.045 sounds right but what matters is what does the Emission Control Label under the hood say? This label is usually black and white and may be located on the underside of the hood, the top of the radiator top bracket or on the strut tower. It will specify the spark plug and the correct gap for your engine.

That is the information a professional technician looks for when servicing your vehicle and that is the information you need to rely on. If the label is illegible or missing then call your local GM dealership to get the model, year and engine specific information necessary to correctly replace your spark plugs.

The early points type distributor is most happy with the standard of. 35 thousands gap …those are found in your pre 1975 cars and trucks with any motor factory installed. That gap is probably a standard of the auto industry and lots of other enginesThe post 1975 with the hei electronic ignition opens the gap up another .10 to 45 thousands gap. There may be some real late model coil pack type ignitions that are at the 60 thousand gap. But the first two mentioned are the best starting point i have knowledge of …. Make sure you have a idea of approx what year the motor is because a few of them require special irridium based spark plugs. And not the standard R45ts like most chevy small blocks normally use. Good luck i hope this will help you

The gap is .035 . The idle thing could be a number of things, From a sensor to a burnt valve, bad plugs, bad wires clogged fuel filter, and list goes on Its like asking how to perform brain surgery over the phone. Good luck.

I disagree with the other answers saying that spark plugs will not have any effect on gas mileage. This makes the assumption that the plugs you are currently running are essentially brand new and have no wear.Over time, the repeated abuse from the extreme conditions within the engine block and combustion chamber can cause wear on the spark plugs. Most plugs are only rated to last 30–60k miles before needing a replacement.Assuming you’re not looking to replace brand new plugs, chances are the ones you currently have are not running at 100% efficiency. You probably will notice a slight increase in MPG from a spark plug swap.I do agree that the idea of magic spark plugs that boost MPG are non-existent. However, certain brands of spark plugs have been shown to work better as factory replacements for certain types of cars. NGK Plugs are by far the most popular and most recommended brand for Honda/Acura applications.More information can be found here with a comparison of a few of the top brands in Spark Plugs:Best Spark Plugs - Top 5 Best Spark Plugs » Maintain Your Ride

It actually depends on what you are wanting out of your spark plugs.  (Although you should always buy what OEM recommends). The way spark plugs work is an inverse relationship of price and lifespan: Copper: cheapest, best spark, 30k miles, $2-3/plugPlatinum: next step up, spark degrades some, should last 60k, $4-6Double Platinum: use platinum on electrode and ground, made for newer cars that can cause traditional spark plugs to prematurely wear due to the type of grounding used. should last 80k.  $5-7Laser Cut Platinum:  same as platinum, except the electrode tip has been laser cut to give a more precise spark, also more expensive. $7-9Iridium:  most expensive, last the longest, 100k, provides the least quality spark.  $7-14I buy Iridium plugs because in a Subaru it's what is recommended and then I won't have to do a semi-difficult spark plug job for another 100k.  If I owned a Honda Civic, which I used to, I would just buy cheap copper plugs because it's very quick to replace them. Regardless, I would buy what your OEM calls for; they engineered it that way for a reason. Spark is a major component of your engine, you want it to work correctly.  Now if you have a modified engine, then you may want a different material. Copper is used in high performance race cars because of it's spark quality.NOTE: Don't gap your iridium or platinum plugs! They're pre-gapped and you could damage them
