Is Coldplay the best rock band currently?

No. I’m a huge fan of Coldplay - yes, both old Coldplay, older Coldplay, transitional Coldplay (best Coldplay) and new Coldplay. But I wouldn’t even call Coldplay a rock band. That’s like saying Taylor Swift is a hip hop artist just because some of her songs have a typical hip hop beat to them.Coldplay is alternative rock. Yeah, yeah, it’s got the word “rock” in it. No, alt rock is not the same as “rock”. The two phrases invoke very different images and emotions, much less the music itself. But even that label isn’t quite right. Alt rock is a label shared with The Script, Chris Daughtry, even Linkin Park, which vary along a second spectrum of pop vs punk (or even a scale of how much distortion they usually use). It doesn’t accurately convey what Coldplay does, and most people who dislike Coldplay do so because they expect… more.More substance. More guitar. More sense because for all the atmosphere that Coldplay creates, especially in their OG albums, some of this really just doesn’t make much sense. No, in my opinion, Coldplay is easy listening.Eeyup.Not this:but this:Yes, I’ve heard Violet Hill. No, that does not make them a rock band.New Coldplay is more defined - they’re more pop rock than that weird blend of easy listening they’ve otherwise been most of their career. Look at Viva La Vida and I dare you to tell me that has less crossover with easy listening than rock. A Sky Full of Stars has more similarities with easy listening than rock in what it sets out to achieve.Feel good, fluffy, airy, transient stuff that doesn’t hold up if you stare really hard, but you’re so in to it that it’s tough to muster up enough care to make the stare in the first place. And - if you still think Coldplay counts as a rock band - Keane did everything classic Coldplay did but better. They’re definitely the best at what they do, because I haven’t quite heard anything like what it is they do, but if you want to use “rock band” as the basis for comparison, Keane really does blow them out of the water, simply because their work feels more, and is more consistently, rock.

What is the strumming pattern for green eyes by coldplay?

Strumming patters can be fluid and open to interpretation. That makes them hard to describe with 100% accuracy. Pretty much this song goes [DOWN-down-up-down-up-down-up] with the double down at each chord change. The straight [down-up-down-up] continues until the next chord change.

What was the last truly innovative rock and roll band?

Rock and roll has pretty loose definitions, but most of what the general public would call R&R has a steady, driving rhythm, simple arrangements that a small band can play, and an emphasis on performance quality. There isn’t much room for innovation on the first point, although polyrhymic songs have gone in and out of fashion, as have different time signatures.Rock has seen horns, orchestras and choruses applied to it, but simplicity is still the name of the game for the most part. It’s performances that are the main avenue for innovation. Whether it was Elvis singing like a black performer, or Chuck Berry singing like a white performer, upsetting audience expectations and delighting them in the rebellion it represented mostly came from the way the singers and musicians delivered.Few people cover Roy Orbison songs because few can sing like he could. Guitarists who honed a distinct sound of their own, even if they weren’t technically virtuosos, attracted an audience more than the derivative but more competent ones. When looking for innovators, look for unique performers.

Is it weird that Black Veil Brides are my inspiration?

So i am 15 and im a girl and I really like the black veil brides band. I love their personalities and their music and how they aren't afraid to dress like the way they do. I don't dress like them, but they are really my hero. I look up to them and I obsess over them like one day I'm gonna meet them... Which I know I'm not because I'm from Michigan, and nothing, I mean NO-THING happens that's big, in Michigan. I have just recently started getting "attached" to bands, and artists for some reason, lol. I think I'm just going through a stage, like my mom says. I send them fan letters all the time and I'm always drawing them pictures (I'm a pretty good artist) and sending them in, and so far I have gotten responses to all of them, which is probably the reason why I'm obsessing over them. I just recently "got over" my obsession over Bam Margera, I still love him but now I don't obsess over him as much, I send him fan letters all the time also, I guess I just write really good letters and send in really good drawings because I have gotten a signed poster from Bam Margera by request and I have gotten responses from the black veil brides every time I sent them a picture that I drew of the band, but I haven't yet asked them for a autograph. I don't want to bother them because I feel bad. But I love how they love their fans more then anything. So anyway I know I got off topic but can any one tell me if it is an actual obsession or is this just a faze? I'm no worried because I Love the people I'm obsessing with but I'm just wondering. Thanks!!!

My uncle says guitarist Guthrie Govan is rubbish and can’t play the guitar for toffee. I think he’s awesome, who is right?

I had literally never heard of Guthrie Govan when I read this question. So I went and googled him, and watched the first three video results, which were these:Okay, I only watched the first two minutes of that one. I decided it probably wasn’t going to do anything radically unexpected after that.Okay, I didn’t watch all of that one, either. I got the point about twenty seconds in and skipped at various points to the end to see if he was going to do anything radically interesting.First off, you can tell your uncle that he’s clearly suffering from some kind of bias: Guthrie Govan is not rubbish and can play the guitar.Having said that, I now know why I have never heard of Guthrie Govan before. I have fairly acute guitar radar when it comes to notable players, and for all that he can wail, he is firmly in a tradition of guy standing out front wailing on minor scales with a blues influence and some jazz-ish substitutions on a distorted guitar while a rhythm section plonks away behind him, sometimes in an odd time signature to show that they mean business.Nothing very original or interesting going on there, is what I’m saying. I have heard a lot of stuff like this and it impressed and intimidated me when I was a teenager, but didn’t communicate anything to me except Gosh, can’t I play! It doesn’t impress me any more because loads of guys can play like this. I would like to see what he can do with a shitty cheap acoustic guitar and without all that expensive tone behind him.So, he can play guitar, all right. I just don’t think he has anything of interest to say as a musician. But that’s just me. If you like it, enjoy.Your uncle’s still wrong; he’s mistaken his personal taste for some sort of objective yardstick. There is no such thing. You can tell him that from me.Edit: To avoid further comments from fans of the gentleman, let me just re-state my conclusion, with some nuance added from comments and further viewing:Guthrie Govan is a very skilled guitar player indeed who can expertly mimic most if not all styles. To say he can’t play the guitar is patently ridiculous. However, some people, me included, are not convinced that this level of technical skills means he is a great musician, because we find his playing lacking in personality and originality.
