When Buying A Automotive Battery Charger What

What kind of automotive battery charger should I buy?

Well You need a 12 volt charger.. That will be what your car or pick-up is.. Some larger trucks are 24 volt (2, 12 volt batteries). If you want to use it to boost your car from a dead battery you should buy one with a "boost" setting. Don't try to charge a battery with this setting, you will ruin the battery. I have a 12 volt, 10 amp charger i bought for under $50 and it charges the battery at about the same rate as running the car would. It is safe to charge a battery without even disconnecting it from the cables with a 10 amp. 4-5 hours to charge a good dead battery is enough to put about a 75% charge in it.. Enough to get you going.

Where can i buy a Delta 18.0V Battery Charger?

I ahve a Delta Power drill and the battery does not charge anymore. I need a new charger. Does anyone know where i can get this charger because delta has discontinued the model i have. or is there any other type of charger that i can use to charge this particular battery?

Model Number : CL180B
18.0V Nicad Battery Pack
Type 1 Serial Number : 160259 RN3024

What settings on my automotive battery charger should I use with my 2001 Dodge Durango?

Wow, definitely an older charger. Any-hoo, you will want to select "wet" setting, wet is the basic lead-acid battery. If you have a Gel battery (battery with silicone in the electrolyte for deep cycle use and high heat applications) or an AGM (absorbed glass matt, different design for deep cycling but very efficient on discharge and recharge rates), you would know because they cost at least twice as much as the standard "wet" battery. Each battery has their own setting because each have different recharging characteristics, so special settings are used for each to prevent damage.

If you want to charge it overnight, 2 amps should be sufficient, don't go over that. If you want to charge it in the matter of hours, use 10 or 15. If you need it to start immediately and it dead, you'll get nowhere, 15 amps will never be enough for a boost.

But I seriously recommend replacing the battery, Walmart or an auto parts store (Advanced auto, Autozone, etc.) will replace the battery cheaply. Free installation.

How can you design an automatic battery charger which interrupts/terminates the flow of charge when the battery is fully charged?

That function /feature shouldn’t be hard to design or implement especially with some programmable microcontroller like an Arduino are readily available..And with ready made battery tenders, you may not even need the Arduino! What you may need to do is first define what you meant by the battery being fully charged? Some models of battery “tender” chargers that are commercially available now have that simple features built-in that fits your description or requirement…Example;Once the car battery voltage reach a certain predetermined level, it stops the charging current and intermittently deliver a trickle charge or a keep warm energy to the battery.. some models may also exercise the battery, decalcify, etc..In my view, since the cost is not prohibitive, designing then assembling your own from scratch may prove to be more expensive than buying a premade unit!

How should I charge a new car battery?

Years ago car batteries were distributed dry, and the retailer filled them with acid and charged them before selling them, or, in some cases, after installing them. The user rarely had to worry about the initial charge. But occasionally a user might get a dry battery plus a container of sulfuric acid, with instructions how to fill the battery, and how to charge it initially to ensure a long useful life. These instructions usually specified charging the battery with a low current so it took 12 hours or more to charge, and using a charger which cut off automatically. The charging circuits in cars in those days did not control charging voltage or current very carefully, so such an initial charge was important.Today most car batteries are sealed, and come more or less fully charged. Moreover, the charging circuits in modern cars are much better at avoiding excessive charging voltage. So unless you have an old car (at least forty years old) you have no need at all to worry about charging a new battery. Just put it in your car and go, making sure you clean the terminals thoroughly before connecting them. And check the charging voltage with the new battery and the engine running: it should be about 14 volts. If the charging voltage is much lower, the problem is most likely the car, not the battery; if it is much higher, the car has a problem which killed the old battery, and will probably soon kill the new one.

How long does it take to charge a car battery

Depends upon many things: depth of discharge, temperature, battery size & capacity, capacity of the charging device, and desired quality of charge. If the battery temperature is very low, it will not accept a charge until it has warmed up. At high temperatures, it accepts a charge extremely readily. If discharged fully, of very large capacity, and charged by a small trickle charger, it may take 24 hours to recharge. If discharged only slightly, of very small capacity, and charged by a starter/charger, it may take only a couple of minutes to recharge.

What is recommended, charging a new car battery before using or mounting immediately without charging the battery?

Thanks for the A2A :)Like the others have said, a lead acid car battery is ready to go …fully-charged …right off the shelf. You need do nothing other than install it in your vehicle. If the battery has raised posts for connections it’s a good idea to make sure the posts on the battery and terminals on the ends of the battery cables are cleaned. You can buy a small, inexpensive tool designed clean the posts and the inside contact areas of the cables:As you can see there is a brush for the posts …the open end with bristles inside …and a brush for cleaning the inside of the clamps …the tapered brush to the right in the photo. The other piece is simply a cap you slip over the clamp brush.

Where can I purchase a lead acid battery charger?

Thanks for the link to the site.
That thing has 4 each 12 volt batteries.
Here's an alternative to buying a 48 Volt charger:
Use an automotive charger available at any auto parts store or large department store with an auto section.
You may need to remove the batteries to do this.
Connect the batteries in Parallel. Positive to positive to positive... and negative to negative to negative... Connect the charger to the connected batteries. Use the 10 amp setting.
If the batteries are almost dead, full charge will take about 18 - 20 hours.

Do i have to charge a new car battery before i install it?

Not normally. Car batteries are already fully charged and you should be ok to just put it in and crank it up. You can always check to see how long the battery has been sitting on the rack by looking at the date code on the side of the battery. Every manufacturer has it on the side. If for example, it says E7 it would mean the 5th month (May) of 2007.
