When Can I Retake My Gcse English Exam

What would happen if I failed my English GCSE retake even though I already passed it the first time as I was trying to get a higher grade?

You would still have the original certificate with the pass grade on it; that wouldn't be cancelled. But if you've already got (let's use the old labels) a C and think you are capable of a B, you're not very likely to get a D.Bear in mind that if you are at school in the UK, you won't be entitled to any retake classes, because as you have already passed, there won't be any government funding to pay for you to take it again. This means you'll have to revise under your own steam, and you'll have to pay for your own exam entry.Good luck, anyway.

Can you retake the GCSE exam?

Of course you can! There is no set age to take GCSE exams - you will just need to find a centre and pay the fee to enter the exam - usually around £20–30 per exam. That being said - if you did ok but not as well as expected - I wouldn't recommend retaking exams as it puts extremely workload on you, unless you go down a year. In the grand scheme of things your GCSEs aren't that important. Thanks and good luck!Cameron

When you retake the English GCSE exams, do you have to do both language and literature even if you only need the grade in one?

Having taught English at GCSE level to retakers for many years, I have never heard of anyone being required to retake GCSE English Lit. Maths and English Language at C or above are requirements, but English Lit is not, and never has been. Not only that, but it would be impracticable. There are far too many texts likely to be set, for you to be able to cover it all in two-and-a-bit terms. So the answer is No.

What's the hardest and easiest exam boards for GCSE English, Maths & Science?

I don't take multiple exam boards so I'll just give you a *totally* non-biased opinion on the examboards that I take :)So for Maths my exam board is AQA.For English my exam board is AQA (both Language and Literature). And hey surprise surprise, for Science my exam board is… AQA.Yes my school loves AQA.And to me, they're not all that bad although I haven't done any other examboards so I cannot compare them.I know English is pretty damn difficult, even my English teacher says so and she's been teaching for a while as our school actually switched from Edexcel to AQA for our year- “the guinea pigs” as the teachers like to call us. Maths is ehhh but any exam board for Maths can and probably will be a bit “ehh”. Science is actually quite decent for AQA. The spec is relatively easy to follow and is alright to learn about. Besides Physics because that is incredibly maths-y and is basically another maths lesson haha. But really I can't say. It's not like you'd have much of a choice in doing the different exam boards anyway as the schools choose them based on preferences and these are just the ones that my school chose, therefore different schools may decide to follow different exam boards. So whichever one you do, it doesn't matter because you won't know anything different to what you're learning and you probably won't be able to change the exam board for just one person…So I hope that helped and good luck!

For English teachers, Is it to apply an exam or to give an exam?

There is a very common mistake when English students mention "the teacher applied the exam" or when the not very good teachers say "I am going to apply an exam" Is this correct?

Revision Tips? For GCSE exams?

You really have to find a technique that works for you, but I'll tell you what I do (I get good marks in exams)

First read through EVERYTHING for your given subject. By this I mean read everything you have written down, every handout you've been given, every revision guide you've got. I do this about a week before the exam, but you can do it sooner if you've got loads of exams. As you're reading make notes of key points (key things to remember/formulas etc), and try to fit the whole of the subject into 2-3 pages of A4.

The next stage is answering questions. Ones from past exam papers are by far the best if you can get them. Spend a day or two practising doing the questions. This is very important as it stops you from being shocked by what they're asking you when you sit down at the exam table. Any questions you can't do, ask your friends/teacher.

Final Stage - Remember those notes you made when you were reading? Study those the final night/morning before the exam to memorise the key facts.

A general tip, if you've got a lot of exams, is to concentrate more on the ones you like and may need in the future. You won't regret getting a bad mark on something you don't care about, so prioritise well.

Good luck!! You'll be fine ;-)

GCSE Retakes? PLEASE HELP!!!?

It depends on which exams. To get onto A levels, you need at least a C in maths and English language, plus (usually) Bs in the subjects you want to take to A level. You can retake GCSEs alongside A levels, but it may turn out to be a lot of work if you're retaking a lot and might make more sense for you to resit the year. My advice would be to talk to someone at your school/ the college you're going to for sixth form.
There will almost certainly be others who are in the same situation and end up a year behind. If you go on to university after A levels, there will be people who have taken a gap year (or 2) so you won't always be a year older than everyone else. I hope this has answered all your questions

What will happen if I swear in my GCSE French exam?

If it elucidates some useful points – it shows some nominal skills but no relevance to the task or if as a candidates, you are able to use appropriate language in a variety of situations, you might want to take a risk and go ahead with it.Also, it would be a good idea to refer to a recent mark scheme and check the rules and regulations for the usage of profanity, and whether or not the candidate is penalised for the same.Good luck! :)

I'm stressing about my GCSE exams and my parents and teachers are of NO help?

I'm in Year 11 and I'm taking my GCSE's this year. Basically last year I stressed out loads over the mock exams we did and they weren't even the real thing so I'm worried what I'm going to be like when the actual ones come about. I cry about it every night because I'm ridiculously terrified about my exams and whether I fail and if I'll be able to go to University etc. The subjects I'm worried about most are History, Maths, Music, AS Level Theology (I'm taking it a year early and I had no choice in the matter because my parents wanted me to do it) and now English. I wasn't worried about English before, however Michael Gove has unfortunately gotten hold of the exams and curriculums etc and has now scrapped the Speaking and Listening exam which I've already taken. I was fuming and so angry and upset when I found out because its now messed up my whole English course and I have to move classes which means I've got to study two NEW books in one year now instead of two years! It's more complicated than it sounds, there's a lot more to it! I'm worried that the teachers going on strike in a few months will affect my education too. I've spoken to my parents about my problems but they've just said 'don't worry you'll do fine' or 'you're not the only one' - I know I'm not the only one going through this but they're not giving me the right answers or support that I need. As a result I went to my Head of House about it and she spoke to me over a couple of weeks or so but she has been of no help whatsoever. It annoys me how the school say they deal with this sort of situation every year so 'feel free to come and have a chat' - they don't help at all, they don't encourage or anything. Please don't tell me to go to a counsellor because my parents would laugh at the idea and refuse.
Please help me I don't know what to do anymore.
