Why is the Tag Heuer Carrera watch iconic?

The Tag Heuer Carrera is arguably the company's most popular watch, and one of the most important chronographs ever made. Here are a few reasons why it's iconic:1. Jack Heuer, great grandson of Heuer founder Edouard Heuer, and the company's CEO from 1962 to 1982, designed the Carrera. It was inspired by Jack's desire for a clean chronograph. Jack is a fan of modern design and architecture, and thus hated the unnecessary tracks found in chronographs back in the 60s.2. The Carrera's design was a game-changer. By removing extraneous details, more space was created on the dial of the Carrera, allowing the chronograph to be easily read. True to the Heuer brand DNA, it was modern and avant-garde. The news of the revolutionary new watch was all over publications, and it became an immediate success.3. The Carrera became the choice watch of top racecar drivers, such as like Bruce McLaren and Jo Siffert. There have been at least 10 generations of the Carrera since its introduction in 1963, with new models launched every decade since. At 55 years old, it's still one of the most popular chronographs in the market today.Want more? Here’s a short video - 10 Things to Know About the Tag Heuer Carrera.

Is it worth buying Tag Heuer Carrera?

People are fond of the Carrera timepieces for their exceptional designs which can be evident from the below watches.TAG Heuer Carrera CAR2111.BA0720TAG Heuer Carrera CV2A11.BA0796TAG Heuer Carrera CAR2110.BA0720The above TAG Heuer Carrera watches are really masters of timekeeping. They are worthy of one’s penny. In India, they are available at The Prime, Kamal Co., Luxepolis and much more.

Are Tag Heuer and Omega overpriced?

Yes. Tag Heuer and Omega watches are overpriced. But only if you consider the cost of manufacturing their time-pieces.When you consider design, R&D, advertising, overhead, etc. and amortize all of that into the price of their watches, you start to see why they are over-priced… I’m too lazy to search for their net profit numbers, don’t even know if they are published anywhere…Not just them - I believe Rolex is the most over-priced of them all. Breitling is not far behind Rolex. In fact, almost all Swiss watches are over-priced.I used to have an Omega for many years but I sold it a couple of years ago. Now I just have a Citizen Eco Drive, because my desire to have a pseudo luxury watch has changed. If I were to spend my money on a fine time-piece between $2k and 5k, I’d buy a NOMOS. Look them up - they make fascinating watches. It’s joyful to me each time I visit their website.Just look at this beautiful Minimatik Nachtblau…I’d also recommend Glashutte Original, they are a bit more expensive, but they also make truly beautiful watches, if you can save some more.

I will be buying my first luxury watch. What should I buy, the Tag Heuer Aquaracer or the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra?

Hello Lena:I would say the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for sure. Tag Heuer made fine watches, but their recent movements have been nothing special. The Omega Aqua Terra is versatile as a sports watch and a watch you can wear with formal attire. Omega is, in my opinion, the best Swiss watch brand you can buy in the (very fair) price range it is in . Omega’s quality of movement is phenomenal, and their proprietary advantages are marvels of engineering. I own an Omega Planet Ocean and it is my favorite watch to wear daily. Clean, simple, and very well-built. I owned a Tag Heuer as well, but I was not impressed with it from an aesthetic standpoint as well as a timekeeping standpoint. Best of luck with your new piece, whatever you decide!Cheers,-Stefan
