In 1x22 Damon kissed Katherine believing it was Elena. In 2x22 Elena kissed Damon when she believed he was going to die, which is technically their first "real" kiss. In 3x10 Damon kissed Elena and this time it was more because of their feelings for each other and not just because Damon was dying. In 3x19 Elena kissed Damon and I would say this is the first time we really saw Elena kiss Damon FIRST because she WANTED to and is definitley more of a make out than just a kiss. As for when they officially got together...that's a very grey area because of the events that surrounded it. I would say watch season 4 and decide for yourself when you think they were officially together, because everyone will have a different opinion. In my personal opinion they weren't officially together until 4x23, but we still didn't get to see them being a real on-screen couple until season 5, so I'd say from 5x01 onwards (however, their relationship was still so rocky that they were constantly breaking up and getting back together again).

I love that show too and yes the Season 4 finale was epic. But you have a few choices you can either A. Cut yourself off cold turkey. Go do something pretty intense like workout or church (depending on religion anything in a setting that makes you feel guilty for leaving) in a group enviorment with other people so you have no choice but to focus on activity at hand B.Attempt to relive the Elena footsteps, go on a date, go to a haunted house (ghost or parnormal tour) or a vampire club, There quite a few here, never been, but just research your nearest big city. Even craigslist. the reason I advise this as when plunging yourself in to a fictional world head on and emerse yourself in it, makes it easier to sifer reality from fiction. Or you feed into the delusion and makes thing better. Now Im only on my first year of my PhD so I got about 18 more months before Im a real psychologist but from the context since you did become so engullfed in the show easily, it might mean you are unhappy with your life in someway, why you found happiness in fiction. So why cutting yourself off is probaly the best choice. Just step away and find out what in your present state is making you upset. But if this doesnt work go to option B and imerse yourself into the subculture, this will help your mind relize that the show is pure fiction. Now tread with caution into option B it might make it worse or better. But the reason I offered optition B because in most cases like these when someone cuts themselves off from a fictional pleasure. Do Damon and Elena ever get together in The Vampire Diaries?
They aren't officially dating, or an official couple YET, but they are getting there. In the end of season 2 and all of season 3 their feelings for each other become even more obvious. Especially if you pay attention to the little clues along the way. They have already kissed several times. One time Elena kissed him (but she believed that he was about to die, so it was more of a goodbye kiss, so she said), and one time he kisses her but she kisses back. And just throughout the episodes you can see chemistry between them. They have told each other countless times about how they care about each other and are close friends. Even once, Damon told her that he loved her but than sadly compelled her to forget it. Bottom line, Damon LOVES Elena and it's very obvious he wants her and would do anything for her. Elena's just the one hiding and ignoring the feelings that she has for him that are gradually coming out. Keep watching, the love triangle gets VERY interesting! :)
