When I Lay Down It Feels Like There Is Pressure On My Oral Stitches

Does it hurt to have stitches taken out of your mouth?

I had a very painful extraction last monday, an experience i dont ever want to go through again, the dentist had pulled an abscessed tooth, anyway, i take coumadin which they didnt stop for the procedure so they stitched me up really tight and i have to go in and have them removed this morning, im really nervous it will hurt, the last thing i need is more pain. thanks for your replies.

Wisdom teeth stitches coming out?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed Thursday morning. Dr. told me the stitches were dissolvable but I feel a thread coming out on 2 of them. Is this normal since it has only been 2 days? Should I pull the thread out? It seems to be only partially hanging there and I am not sure. Will my salt water rinse dislodge them?
I'm really concerned and haven't eaten any hard or tough foods because I was worried something like this would happen. Besides sore cheeks I haven't experienced any pain in the gums or jaw. Any directions or knowledge would be greatly appreciated and would put my mind at ease!
Thank you :)

One of my wisdom teeth stitches just tore out!??

Many dentists now use stitches that self dissolve in about five days. did they tell you if yours were that kind?

Don't panic. a little blood will seem like a lot when it comes from the mouth. Get some gauze or any material in there and put a little pressure on it to stop any bleeding. You should be okay till morning. I doubt the bleeding will be bad enough to worry about because I had a tooth pulled and they just gave me a wad of gauze to bite on. Even without stitches it stopped bleeding in just a little while.

hang in there kiddo......

Headaches after oral surgery/extractions?

I had 3 teeth extracted last week, one of which was impacted so required surgical extraction and stitches.
Ever since I've been getting stabbing pains mainly in the right front part of my head, often starting in the early evening and they don't subside at all without some kind of painkiller. The headaches are more painful that my mouth, and they cause me to need to lie down for a while and/or go to sleep.
My surgeon told me the impacted tooth was very close to the sinus cavity, could this have anything to do with the headaches?
Please help, I have to go back to school tomorrow and I really don't want to keep getting these headaches!

Cheers for any help!!

No stitches after tooth extraction?

Do you have any teabags? Dunk it in *warm* not hot water, and have her bite down on that. The tannins in the tea will help with the clotting process.

Just have her keep pressure on that area, keep changing the cotton gauze. If she needs to rinse, let her rinse with warmish water but not spit out the water, just let it fall out of her mouth. You want the extraction site to clot, and if you spit too vigorously it must disrupt the clot from forming. It might look like a lot of blood, but it is probably mixing with her saliva so it looks much worse than it is.

Extractions don't always call for stitches. I work for a pediatric dentist, and I have never once in 9 years seen her do stitches after an extraction. If it is more of a more surgical procedure, than they usually do stitch them up after.

Stitches in my mouth coming loose..help?!!?

I had 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted Friday, and 1 of my back molars extracted. The surgeon put stitches pretty much everywhere that needed them, and that included the back molar gums. The gums in my back molar were stitched close, but after nearly 4 days they have come loose. Every time I take a breath, I can feel the air travel up the tiny slit between the loosely stitched gums, and I feel pressure in my nasal cavity. I called my surgeon immediately after I got out of class today, and he said I need to come in immediately the next morning. Can someone tell me if this has happened to them? How can I bring down the swelling from the wisdom teeth extraction?

Ps.. I lost feeling in half my tongue after the bottom wisdom tooth was extracted and I keep biting it...will it EVER come back?

Please help :(

Is it normal to feel a pulse after wisdom teeth are removed?

Yes. The pulse you are feeling is due to the swelling of the tissues around the extraction site. Just like when you put pressure on your wrist or neck to feel your pulse in those places, the swelling is putting pressure on the blood vessels in the area, and hence, you feel the pulse. A saltwater gargle may alleviate the pain a little, as may sipping cool water. If you are already on ibuprofen, there is little else you can do but wait it out =(

Please note that Naproxen (Aleve) is a more powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reliever than ibuprofen, but do NOT change any medication without the guidance of your dentist. A reaction or overdose of medications can be fatal. Ask him/her to see if it would be safe or wise to substitute Aleve for ibuprofen, and the necessary dosage, which will be different.

I hope you feel better soon,

Pulled out stitches in mouth?

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to clean out any debris. Take a few pieces of gauze (your surgeon should have given you some extra) and fold a few pieces over to make it thick. Put it in your mouth and bite down, hard. The pressure will stop the bleeding. Bite down on it for at least 20-30 mins. During this time hold ice on the outside of your face to help constrict the blood flow. If that doesn't work soak a tea bag in lukewarm water for about 10 mins then squeeze the water out of it and bite on that for another 15-20 minutes. Keep the ice on your face as long as you can stand. Once the bleeding calms down you should be able to see if you tore the stiches or not. If you do not have a follow up appointment with your surgeon they probably used dissolving stiches which break down over time so it's normal you may feel them if they are starting to dissolve which after 5 days it's quite possible. Definitely keep taking your antibiotics and meds as your Dr. perscribed and it's a good idea to call there tomorrow and just let them know what happened to see if they want to see you for a quick post op check. In the meantime just try those few things and that should get it under control for tonight. Do not drink anything hot or drink through a straw or smoke, those are all things that can get bleeding going again. If you need to eat just stick with soft foods and nothing hot. Good luck.
