When I Press On My Break Why Does It Still Squeak

Why are my breaks squeaking?

Drums in the back... They're called "shoes"
Disk brakes... They're called "pads"

Ok... The shoes in the back are very important... One is designed to face forward and the other is designed to face to the rear.
If you got those correct, ANY slight finger print on the machined surface of the drum or the brake shoe will cause the lock up.

A mushy pedal... you have air in the lines.
Air in the lines won't cause the squeaking.

Why does my Chrysler 200 squeak when I break in reverse?

I have a 2011 Chrysler 200 that I bought exactly 1 year ago, brand new. It only has 14,000 miles on it. So, I would be very upset if the breaks already went bad, and I hope that's not the case, as money is tight.

Whenever the car is cold, the car will squeak when I hit the breaks going in reverse. They never squeak when I hit them going forward. Also, if the car is warm, the breaks will not squeak at all. It's a very high pitched squeak, though. Again, it only happens when the car is cold and I hit the breaks going in reverse. Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thank you so much for your help.

Why do my car breaks squeak?

The bearing/slide pin the pads ride is no longer lubed and needs grease. The push cylinder is no longer lubed and needs grease. The rotors are rusted and/or warped. They need to be sanded and/or cut to specThe pads are worn down to the metal because you waited to D$%N Long to replace them. Now you must replace the pads and the rotors

Why do my brakes squeak when the weather changes?

You should make sure that the brake pads are still good and not squeaking because they are getting worn out. If all is ok, it can be normal. Rotors will rust slightly from the moister in the air. Dirt and grime build up can cause noises as well. They make a squeak stop to put on the back of the brake pads, but its an expensive fix for a noise that is just annoying.

Why do my wheels still squeak after putting new breaks in?

If you're talking of disc brakes its possible you haven't replaced the anti squeal shims. Pieces of thin metal which fit between the piston and pad- they stop the noise. Replace shims, noise should stop.If its drum brakes I'd guess the adjustment is off, the shoe is badly aligned or there's detritus in the drum itself.Disassemble, clean lightly with emery paper, blow off with an air line or vacumn cleaner, reassemble carefully. Its also possible its not the brakes making a noise: clutch, gearbox, wheel bearings, prop bearings and differential can all make a noise.

Why does my car make a squeaking noise only in reverse from the rear wheels?

Best bet without knowing any specifics is perhaps brake adjustment on the back wheels. Most cars since the seventies at least have automatic brake adjusters, some of which operate when the car reverses. This could possibly be bringing the unworn trailing edge of the brake lining into contact with the drum. The polished part of the brake lining rubbing on the also polished drum can squeak. This could also happen with rear disk brakes, as they are not applied as heavily as the front and when you reverse, the pads tip very slightly in contact with the disc and again squeak.Front disc brakes often develop a squeal when applied if the driver doesn’t use the brakes heavily and the discs and pads polish up. Some dishonest garages will spend a lot of your money fitting new stuff that isn’t necessary, though it’s important to distinguish between the squeal of glazed pads and the sound of metal on metal or a wear warning spring. With polished (glazed) pads, we just drove along a quiet piece of road in low gear for a hundred yards or so with the footbrake pressed to take the glaze off. You could try the same on an open piece of ground in reverse to see if that makes any difference. Driving at road speed along a quiet highway and hitting the brakes hard several times would perhaps make a difference. If all else fails, take it to a reputable garage. I’d advise against amateur brake repair. A repair bill is preferable to a potentially serious accident.Footnote: A car front wheel covered in black dust is a sign of a heavy brake user (repair shop cash cow). And if the brakes are being abused, it’s probable that the rest of the car is too.

Why do my brakes still squeak after I just replaced the two front brake pads?

There's two types of squeaks associated with brakes. The first is the grinding, squealing sound when the brake pad is getting low and the safety brackets make contact with the brake rotors. The second sound is less harsh, and it's most often associated with brake dust building between the pads and the brake piston.

So either you have a harsh squeal from the back brakes which still need to be replaced, or you have a squeal from rubbing between brake components. So check your back brake pads; if they're good, then you need to spend time cleaning the calipers and brake pistons. You can find anti-squeal compound which you apply to the back of the brake pads. Also, lubricate the brake calipers and their mounts and you should be good to go.
