When Is It Eid In Sweden

What do you do for fun on Eid?

My personal eid highlight is the eid prayer! It’s just extremely Jolly, continuously chanting “Allahu Akbar Allahu akbar.. La Ilaha Illa Allah..” till the end of the regular eid chant in the car with my sisters and aunt, on the way to the mosque, remembering all the things God guided us to feeling or doing in Ramadan, worthy of our praise to him on our first eid day :)Arriving at the mosque, I’m greeted with kids competing over whose “Allahu Akbar” is loudest, like its the survival of the loudest.. Happy faces, smiles, everyone in their new clothes, the spirit of newness and hope fills the air, like attending my graduation day with my fellow colleagues, I’m attending our graduation from the school of ramadan with my fellow muslims <3Of course, I LOVE seeing kids EXTRA excited over eid giveaways, so I prepare cute bags beforehand to give kids in the mosque. I think I’m the real kid here projecting my old fantasies on the poor things in the form of a 1000 calories, but that’s a low price for the happiness overflowing!also for some reason, sugar acts like water in their weird digestive systems..Well, then we all get busy performing the regular eid prayer with 7 Takbir instead of 1 (I love those twice a year slight changes in the prayer and wouldn’t miss it for the world!) and throwing Salams left and right, we’re back to being the loving, social, happy society we’re meant to be throughout the year. Then we’re back home to have the famous breakfast with parents and family, the rest is just sweets and family visits, which is great especially when I see my smart-ass niece and nephew expecting Eidii (eid money) as a reward for every kiss, luckily I *just happen* to have their Eidiis ready in 20 pieces stacked as many many five dirhams ;)

Do people in Europe get a Monday off when a holiday falls on weekends?

SWEDEN - NOThis year is a “bad” year to get a long Christmas vacation. In Sweden the 24. the 25. and the 26. are holidays - and this year it will only be one day extra, Monday 26. - it will be almost like a normal weekend. And Newyear is worse, no extra day at all 31. is on Saturday.Best is if the 24. is on a Tuesday, then almost everyone will take the Monday 23. and the Friday 27 and the Monday 30 off - you get a long vacation from 21. Dec to 1.Jan with only 3 days to take vacation.

My Muslim Syrian student and friend invited me to her house for breakfast next week to celebrate Eid with her and I want to know if there is something I could take her that would be considered as an appropriate/traditional gift for the occasion?

Hello Sweden! Since you were invited, dont offer to pay for breakfast (that would be considered rude). You are not expected to bring along any gifts, but if you insist, what would be something she really needs? Forget about buying sweets, she just finished fasting. <3

Is the way Muslims offer namaZ on NH-8 during Eid wrong?

The general principle is for muslims whole world is a masjid we have been praying in mountains, mosques, homes, battlefields, snow and everywhere. Any place which is pure and clean , Namaz can be offered. Now coming to your question,is it wrong, well that is alright if it is not obstructing any traffic etc.Praying in public generally happens on eid or friday congregational paryers because the mosques cannot accommodate the overwhelming public during eid and fridays.Muslim whenever find a peaceful undisturbed place to offer namaz can do so.Now what happened in Gurgaon is gross, the people were offering namaz in a ground and there was no traffic. My friends offer namaz in cybercity as well. There is no issue. The only issue is with the Hindutva groups they envy us and hate us and do not tolerate our faith. If that is the case then any procession of any kind be it muharram, hanuman jayanti, ramnavami etc etc should be banned and religion should be practiced at home only. But Indian constitution is accommodating secular not alienating secular. We should accommodate everyone , and try to check these extremist groups be it hindutva or islamist or any faith

Should Christmas be banned?

I don’t see why and didn’t realise it was compulsory to join in. Given that the message is frequently obscured by materialism and greed it is perfectly reasonable (& understandable) to want to run a mile from the rampant orgy of tacky consumerism. Ill-advised family gatherings where excess alcohol may well bring long forgotten grudges to the surface often produce the opposite effect to what was intended - as well as reminding you why you don’t get together during the rest of the year.Of course not everyone feels like this and genuinely get on with their kith and kin. Indeed if there are small children involved then this can diffuse many potential conflicts and their innocent joy can be contagious. So no - leave X-mas alone and join in (or not) if you like without judgement.

Why Muslims in Calcutta are more inclined to slaughtering of cows rather than goats during Baker -Eid?

Do they now? I understand that is true of Bangladesh, because it makes greater economic sense..had no idea about West Bengal, it may be so because West Bengal has one of the greatest leather export industries in India, so I bet more buffaloes than cows are slaughtered on Eid. Cow meat is considered of an inferior quality my Muslims as compared to Buffalo or Camel meat.So if this is true then we’ll be expecting some fire works this Eid rather than the usual quiet namaz at Eidgah and the even quieter meat distribution to the poor.
