When Is The Last Time The Philadelphia Flyers Beat The Detroit Red Wings

Do you believe winning the Presidents Trophy is bad luck?

Hmm. It's more a case of wearing yourself out during the stretch for a prize no one really cares about. The teams that save something for the playoffs seem to do better.

Is it true the NHL player will not touch the conference trophies?

You only touch the trophy you want to win when you win it. So Detroit's captain didn't touch the President's Trophy nor the conf. championship.

And none of the younger Staal brothers touched the Cup when Eric brought it home in 2006; you only get to touch it when you win it.

You can bet all 20 Pens or Wings will gladly touch the Stanley Cup if their team wins. Quite happily.

What's it like to live in Philadelphia and root for an NFL team other than the Eagles?

One does not “live” in Philadelphia and root for an NFL team other than the Eagles. One dies very quickly if one attempts such a foolhardy thing. One's entrails are then used to decorate the statue of William Penn atop City Hall.A decent percentage of the people in Philadelphia are recent transplants, who have moved here for university or work. These people will not switch loyalties overnight; much torture and brainwashing is necessary before they become conforming members of civil society. But in all seriousness, I doubt it will come to any kind of confrontation more unpleasant than ribald name calling. I am sure that some rowdier sections of the Eagles following in their more inebriated moments do entertain fantasies of inflicting violence upon the sad, misguided, deviants who inexplicably support other teams, but they are in a minority small enough to be dissuaded from any especially ambitious ventures by the ministrations of the local constabulary. But they should be thankful that the 700 level of Veteran’s Stadium no longer exists. Wikipedia says that its denizens had a reputation for "hostile taunting, fighting, public urination and general strangeness."

Which NHL teams have a bad reputation?

It depends on how they play.

To me it's simple

- The Philadelphia Flyers (They aren't called the Broadstreet Bullies for nuthin')

- The Chicago Blackhawks (I never liked how they played against the Red Wings or in Stanley Cup 1992)

- The Montreal Canadiens (Some of the Canadian teams can get nasty and I think they play unfair)

- The Colorado Avalanche (They caused one of the Red Wings players to go through face surgery. Thanks for being a jerk, Claude Lemieux!)

Also tell me which you think which other teams have a nasty way of playiong

National Hockey League: What are the best single season teams that did NOT win the Stanley Cup?

1993 Pittsburgh Penguins. Their incredible lineup from the 90-91 and 91-92 Cup runs was still intact.  They were the best team in the NHL, accumulating 112 points.Mario Lemieux missed over a quarter of the regular season after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease but still lead the league with 160 points; the Penguins went on an unprecedented 17-game winning streak and FOUR players passed the 100 point mark which, unbelievably, did not include Jaromir Jagr who ended the regular season with 99 points.  Eight players accumulated over 60 points, a feat unheard of today for a singular team.  This was the end of the "finesse league" and the clear defining mark of the NHL's shift to a "garage league" of clutch-and-grab defensive tactics. The Pens advanced to the second round of the playoffs, facing the big-time underdog Islanders, eventually losing in 7 games.  The worst of the worst was that the series-winning goal was a skipper shot practically from mid-ice that should have been an easy save for Tom Barrasso.  This goal singularly marked the unfortunate rapid decline in opinion of Barrasso for most Pittsburghers, which is really too bad because he was an exceptional goalie for most of his term in Pittsburgh.1996 Pittsburgh Penguins.  The team finished second in the Eastern conference after Lemieux made Comeback #1 (he sat out the entire previous season with cancer treatments) with those magical "Mario Is Back" NHL commercials (can't find one on YouTube, please post if you know of it!).  The Pens lead the league in goals with 362.  Incredibly, those goals came from only 2,645 shots, an unheard of scoring percentage.  The rallying cry for all fans that season was "shoot the puck!"  Jagr had his best season ever but Lemieux still lead the team in goals/assists/points.The most tragic part of this season was perhaps the painful loss to the Florida Panthers with their disgusting dead rats ritual after every goal/fight/win.  It was a game 7 loss, robbing every NHL fan of a truly magical SCF of a Lemieux/Jagr versus Forsberg/Sakic series.

What is the greatest sports team in Chicago?

Chicago Bulls — 6 championshipsIn the ‘90s the Chicago Bulls were the team to beat, but not too many teams could muster up the plays or luck to overcome their talent — or maybe just the talent of basketball legend Michael Jordan. The Bulls have six NBA Championships, all of which were brought home in the span of eight years, winning three in a row from 1991-1993 and then again from 1996-1998. Jordan was the MVP for each of those championships.1991 defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 4-11992 defeated the Portland Trail Blazers, 4-21993 defeated the Phoenix Suns, 4-21996 defeated the Seattle Supersonics, 4-21997 defeated the Utah Jazz, 4-21998 defeated the Utah Jazz, 4-2MVP for each championship: Michael JordanChicago Blackhawks — 5 Stanley CupsThe Windy City team bringing in the second-most championships is the Blackhawks. This professional hockey team has five Stanley Cup wins, with the first coming in 1934 and the last in 2013. But the Blackhawks are the favorite to win the 2014 season’s coveted NHL trophy, so if they pull it off two years in a row then they’ll have six Stanley Cup wins to their name.1934 defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 3–11938 defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3–11961 defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 4–22010 defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 4–22013 defeated the Boston Bruins, 4–2Chicago White Sox — 3 World SeriesChicago Cubs — 3 World SeriesNext are the Major League Baseball teams, and Chicago has two of them. The White Sox and the Cubs have each won three World Series, with the Cubs recently winning in 2016. The win ended a 71-year National League pennant drought and a 108-year World Series championship drought.White Sox1906 defeated the Chicago Cubs1917 defeated the New York Giants2005 defeated the Houston AstrosCubs1907 defeated the Detroit Tigers1908 defeated the Detroit Tigers2016 defeated the Cleveland IndiansChicago Bears — 1 Super BowlThe last of the Chicago sports teams is “da Bears”. Although the Bears franchise has only won one Super Bowl, the team that brought home that trophy is still talked about and revered today. Many call the 1985 Chicago Bears team the greatest team to have ever played. With Hall of Famer Walter Payton in the backfield, one of the best NFL defenses (or the best to some), a 15-1 regular season record and brutally outscoring most of their opponents, the 1985 Super Bowl Championship Bears team has every right to still be referred to as the greatest NFL team.1985 defeated the New England Patriots

Have the Boston Bruins ever won the Stanley Cup? If so, when and against whom did they win the Stanley Cup?

1929: The Bruins defeated the New York Rangers 2-01939: The Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-11941: The Bruins defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-01970: The Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-01972: The Bruins defeated the New York Rangers 4-22011: The Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3

What is the best sports city in the United States?

I have no love for the Pats, Celtics, and Red Sox, but you have to like Boston. In the last decade, all three teams have been killing it. It must be incredible to be a sports fan and live in a city where you get to root for Tom Brady, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, etc.Boston also has a pretty compelling long-term argument. The Celtics have won 17 titles over ~50 years (real titles, not "Eastern Conference Champions"). The Patriots have won 3 Super Bowls and the Red Sox have won 2 World Series (excluding the beginning-of-the-century era).Looking at the other answers here, I don't see how Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit have a shot:Chicago: The 1990s Bulls are my favorite team ever and the Jordan championship series were incredible. But Boston's overall numbers are better than Chicago's.Pittsburgh: I'm loathe to pick a fight with the Pittsburgh mafia on Quora, and I have huge respect for the Steelers' 6 Super Bowls. Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Greene, Jack Ham -- that team dominated my childhood. But... no chance Pittsburgh is the right answer here, notwithstanding the cluster of homer upvotes up-top.Detroit: The attempt to lump in the UM football team and the WNBA Shock is creative. I've also heard that Cranbrook's lacrosse team made sectionals three years in a row. Look, the Tigers, Pistons, and Lions are cool teams... but I don't see how you can rank them over the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. The only other city that really has a fighting shot at this title is New York. Again, I'm not a big New York fan, but 27 Yankee World Series titles -- that's a heartstopper. Throw in the Giants (3 Super Bowls) and occasional success over the years from the Mets and the Jets... It's a tough call. It's difficult to compare New York with other cities since NY has more teams / $$ than anyone else. LA is a contrarian and interesting answer. Man, just about nobody considers LA a great sports town, much less a contender for #1. But I can see the argument. Wooden's 10 championships + the Lakers' 11 championships = three of the great dynasties. I bet it was insane to live in LA during the Wooden years, and my vague recollection was that Showtime was awesome. Throw in the Dodgers and USC football -- that's a lot of exciting sports over ~40 years. So, in summary: Today: Boston for sure. Over the past 20-50 years, maybe New York.
