When Is The Latest Time To Get Your Pit Bulls Ears Clipped

Whats the youngest you can clip a pitbulls ears?

I'ts called cropping. 12 wks is the latest. Some vets go up to 14-`16 wks. But there is no guarntee to stand. With the kind of money that runs I would not do it after 12 wks.

There is a disgusting crop you can get done it's called a Battle crop there is basicly no ear left and I don't know of any vet with morals or responsible owner of an APBT that would get that done. That can be done at any age. Cause you chop all the ear off.

Most people only want to get an APBT's ears cropped to make it look meaner.

Can i get my 1 year old Pit Bulls ears clipped?

She is not too old, but it's hard to find a vet who will do it. Where I live, the vets want proof it's an UKC Champion bloodline and you are clipping to show. Call around to find a vet who will do it, but don't stop at one. You need to see their work before you commit. You've seen how horrible a bad clip job looks. I always make sure to point it out to my boys so we can laugh and humiliate the owner who was stupid enough to try to clip them on their own WITH SCISSORS. I've also seen some really bad jobs done by vets as well, this is why I recommend contacting several.

Also, be sure you are making a lifetime commitment to this dog. Pit bulls with clipped ears are the first to die in the shelters because they look "too scary". We're killing 800 a week in L.A. County shelters so if you abandon this dog to the shelter with clipped ears, feed it well for it's last 24 hours because it will be a death sentence.

At what age should you clip a pitbulls ears?

before you do anything. make sure she get all of her shots ASAP. most vets will not do them untill the age of 6 months to one year old. due to having to put them under for this. best bet is to call your vet and ask them at what age. but remember if they have to put her under for it. there is still a slight chance that she could have a reaction to it and stop breathing. you will have to sign a consent form before the vet does it. due to that risk .

How much does it cost to get a 4 month pit bull puppys ears clipped?

Vets won't crop ears after the age of 13 weeks. When done before 13 weeks, it generally costs about $250.

When is the latest you can get a dogs ear cropped?

With a battle crop you can crop the dog at any age. However, trying to find a vet who will do this can prove difficult. Many do not crop after 12 weeks old. If this is something you want done than make an apt. asap and just say the pup is around 12 weeks. There is such a huge variety of size in the APBT breed that the vet will not know if it is 3 months vs 3 1/2 months old. For a shorter crop the age makes no difference. In a longer crop it definitely will since after the ear cartilage begins to harden ( around 12 weeks old ) the ear may not stand. I purchased a 4 1/2 month old cane corso who I wished to show but her ears were un-cropped.It isn't mandatory for the dog to have cropped ears to show but I have seen bias in the ring before preferring cropped over natural.Anyway, I said she was only 12 weeks and the vet never questioned it. I am glad I did it. She looks stunning cropped and it keeps the integrity of my breed. Good luck.

Is it legal to clip off pitbull's ears?

If you do it yourself, no, it's not legal. It's considered animal abuse.

If you take the dog to the vet, to have his ears cropped, yes. But totally unnecessary.

Why do people cut the ears off of pitbulls?

Go back a hundred & more years ago, dogs were not arm candy, they were working dogs who were often used in the ring, ears being fragile regularly got torn. The ancester of our pit type dog was the English Staffordshire, & Bull dog crossed with assorted terriers, these dogs were not only companions, they had to work, they had to catch rats, corner badgers & spent their life on the land, a rat could hang onto an ear & rip it, a badger with its razor sharp claws could rip the ear clean off the scalp, & imagine a time, pre over the counter antibiotic.Great Britain at the time was well known for being the filthiest country in the civilized world, hygiene did not exist, it stank, people lived in conditions that would be unthinkable today, few bathed regularly, & with rampant poverty they rarely changed their clothes, even the rich had to leave London for the stench of the garbage filled Thames & open sewers drove them into the cleaner countryside. One of the easiest & safest ways to keep your dog (then) free of injury & possibly death by infection was to cut the ears & tail, it was routine, & the local vet or Horse Doctor gave not a moments thought to it. I see little cause for it now, but one thing in its favour is how it helps to instantly define a breed, I know countless owners of pure breeds with full ears or tails, & it drives them up the wall having to constantly “tell” people what their dog is, some clueless fools even telling them their fabulous dog is not a pure bred because it has (for example) a tail.Incidentally, it was the ingrained bonding with these earlier dogs & their owners/families, which is the most endearing quality of the modern pit type, are as a rule of superb temperament, can work all day without pause, & loyalty is written through them like a stick of rock.
