Will there be Supernatural Conventions in 2016?

Creation Entertainment will hold a Salute to Supernatural convention in Jacksonville, Florida on 15-17 January 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville. But it really is too early to schedule those things - you need to coordinate the performers who will appearing and they may not know the details of their schedule that far ahead. (Or may not want to commit to something that far ahead and maybe miss other opportunities.)

Your best bet is just to keep an eye out on the Creation Entertainment website or the convention page on the Supernatural Wiki:

Is the Supernatural convention worth it?

I know some people who absolutely LOVE going to Creation conventions. In addition to seeing/hearing the stars, they get to meet other fans. Unfortunately, there isn't much to do in between the presentations. The dealers rooms don't seem to have much. Creation already sells licensed merchandise which is available elsewhere.

For the larger events (multiple days, multiple stars) that center on one show, you really need to buy a gold seat and buy it early. If you want your boyfriend to sit with you, you have to buy him one too. Creation apparently now has assigned seating, so you can pick your seats when you buy your ticket--meaning the best seats go first. This will reduce and maybe eliminate problems they've had in the past with seating. Autographs go in order of audience rows. Some stars are great at having enough energy to be nice to everyone--others don't. (The compromise tickets--silver--are already sold out.)

Creation also has dinky one day events. They take over a convention center for a weekend and have one star from show A on Saturday and one star from show B on Sunday. The one I went to didn't even have the star they'd advertised (though fans told me that the actor we got was "better"). The dealers room was incredibly limited, same for the auction, the trivia contest was silly, etc. I was glad I'd bought the cheapest ticket. I figured I didn't care for an autograph, though I ended up getting one when the star decided he sign for everyone, the only requirement being that the cheapskates had to buy an official Creation photo ($5). The actor could tell from the badges how much we'd paid. Gold tickets got chatted up and made to feel special. Cheapskates got a smile. His handlers were annoyed because they couldn't close up for the day until he was done....

I don't know anything about the venue you are going to. If it's a hotel or convention center, the seating areas tend to be flat and the further back you sit from the stage, the likelihood goes up that someone tall or with a hat sits in front of you....

To give Creation a little credit, they do organize shows people want to go to. They used to do major comic book shows in NYC back in the 1970s and 1980s. (Which is when I first went to some.) Comic book shows used to draw a diverse crowd, so not everyone was trying to get into the same panels all day and the dealers brought whatever they had to sell....

So the next one is Creation Entertainment will hold a Salute to Supernatural convention in Las Vegas, March 8-10, 2013 but it looks like part of it is sold out already (http://www.creationent.com/cal/supernatu... ). But maybe one of the other ones will have more opportunties for you.

When will the NRA and other pro-gun citizens realise some restrictions are required?

California State has strict gun control laws, and many local jurisdictions have even more restrictions in place. (For example, Sunnyvale has Measure C--Page on ca.gov--which compels gun owners to keep guns inaccessible at all times, and for the first time ever we've been experiencing armed home invasions because criminals now know we're unarmed. Elderly Sunnyvale Couple Robbed During Home Invasion)But I digress.I  believe that many of these spree killings are copycat crimes. And that if there were a news blackout there would be fewer of them. These killers know they will get publicity and fame for doing one of these crimes. If we prohibited news organizations from covering these, there would be a lot fewer. But I would never suggest that we do this. Why? Because Freedom of the Press is a fundamental part of our constitution. To suggest that we limit the press' freedom, even though I'm certain it would reduce certain types of terrible crimes, is unthinkable. People across the political spectrum are likely to agree. The right to defend ourselves personally is also a constitutional right. It's part of the fabric of America just as the right to free speech is. It would be unthinkable to people who believe in America to throw this away. One more thing:While Elliot Rodger was shooting 3 people in Isla Vista, three men were shot in East Oakland (Three men shot in East Oakland), and 5 people including a 14 year old boy were shot in Chicago (Boy, 14, shot dead blocks from home in Marquette Park) . Sadly, this doesn't move you to want action, because these aren't the type of people you care about.

Were soldiers returning from Vietnam really spat on in airports?

Yes. Was it right? No.This was not the 2000s. It was the 1960s and 70s. Only 20 to 30 years after World War II. WW2 was a righteous war. The men and women who lived through it had no doubt their nation was doing the right thing, sending young men to fight the Nazis, and they were correct. These young men and women came home and settled down with relief to raise families in material prosperity. Europe was in ruins and couldn't compete with American industry. All the WW2 veterans wanted, undestandably, was peace and safety to raise their children. The United States had been proven to be powerful and virtuous. It would always be that way, wouldn't it? Unfortunately a combination of industry and fear of communism sent the country into two subsequent wars. Korea and Vietnam. We had no business being in either but hubris, political ambition and the military industrial complex that General Eisenhower warned against rammed us into both. Generally the WW2 generation supported US military expansion because it had worked before. Their children, raised in peace and educated, weren't so trusting. The draft was still in effect. Young men were frightened. They would be sent off, willy-nilly, to die for what? Neither Korea nor Vietnam were threatening world peace as the Nazis and Japanese had in the 1940s. Wealthy young men (such as Donald Trump) could manipulate the system and avoid the draft so it was the poor and underprivileged who were sent off to die and kill. Protest against the policies of Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon spilled over into protest against the military which forced young men to serve. As happens now, protest against the politicians and their policies was labeled as unpatriotic and anti-American. As also happens now that served to increase the rage against the military and it, wrongly, spilled over onto anyone in a uniform. Very unfair. They were drafted. They had no choice. The military today is different. The draft no longer exists. Those in it have chosen to join and we are grateful they have made that choice. However, should the draft return our current climate of support may erode as it did before.

Conventions can be a bit expensive. You have to pay an admission fee for the convention. (Check out the Creation Entertainment website for prices but it starts at $119 for the 3 days and those are for the cheap seats in the back.). If you don't get a special package deal, you can pay an additional fee to get an autograph ($99) or a photo with Jensen ($129). But opportunities do sell out.

Did military people think it was funny or clever when Trump said he prefers people who don’t get captured when asked about Senator John McCain?

I was a Navy officer from 1979 to 1983. I was disgusted by Trump’s comment regarding Senator McCain. I was disgusted by him accepting a Purple Heart from someone who’d actually earned it. Frankly, there isn’t one thing about Donald Trump I can think of that I don’t find disgusting. When I served I had the good fortune to meet Senator McCain, before he was Senator McCain. Back then he was a retired Captain who was running for Congress for the first time. He had to go to San Francisco to meet with what he disdainfully referred to as “money people”, and while there he took some time to stop off and visit with someone he’d spent several years with under the most trying circumstances imaginable - as a POW in North Vietnam. The man he stopped off to visit was my commanding officer, who called the ship and had The Word passed: “All officers not otherwise engaged in their duties will report to the commanding officer’s quarters at 1900 hours for drinks and hors d’œuvres”. Being obedient young junior officers we all jubilantly shouted, “HEY! Party at Charlie Oscar’s!!”, piled into our Ensignmobiles, and dutifully reported, all scrubbed and polished, for the aforementioned shindig. When we got there, the captain - Ross R. Terry, USN, and one of my life-long examples of How You Should Behave - was there, along with this kind of short, round-faced guy. The captain introduced him by saying, “This is John McCain. We spent six years together as POW’s. He’s running for Congress from Arizona. He’s going places, and I wanted you all to meet him first”. So we all shook his hand, said “Good luck, sir”, and at least one of us (a smart-assed SOB if I ever was one :-) thought to himself, “Yeah, good luck, buddy - we’ll never hear of YOU again”. How wrong I was. I have followed Senator McCain’s political career with interest. At times I have cheered his positions. At times I have shaken my head and wondered what he was thinking. But I have always remembered how I met him, however briefly, whose company I was in that evening, and what those men - Capt. Terry and Senator McCain, and all the rest who I never met but who were tortured, beaten, and in some cases killed as POW’s - went through. I will never forget. And I will never forgive anyone who denigrates that service. And Donald John Trump can kiss my ***.BZ Senator McCain. Fair winds and following seas, sir.Very respectfully,Robert Jarvisformerly LTJG, USNR
