When It Comes To Interior Design

Interior Design Company Name?

What is a good name for an interior design business? I was thinking something Italian, because I come from Italian decent. I was thinking Viva Bella (live beautiful) but there is already a place here called la Bella Vita, so that won't work. I'm up for any good suggestions!

Why are most men interior designers gay?

Most straight guys are conditioned to think of certain work as being too 'feminine' for straight guys, and interior design is one of those fields. So guys who care about appearing straight will tend to avoid that kind of thing, and guys who tend to be more effeminate anyway will tend to think that kind of work would be good for them. That's also why there's many more flamboyant gays than 'butch' gays in that line of work.
Tho not all effeminate men are gay either. Some are very straight despite not being all that interested in traditional masculine roles.

What are your biggest pet peeves when it comes to interior decoration?

The temperature of light emited from light bulbs.Warm? Yes please!Neutral/Cool? Never. If you want your home looking like a hospital, a Saw movie scene, a late-nite dirty looking liquor store, just a sad depressing ambient, you go ahead and prop some cool light light bulbs in there! You want yourself and your visitors to feel welcomed, comfortable, cozy, relaxed, at ease, at peace and happy? Switch on warm light and 50% of you job as a host is done!—In case you don’t know, light color is measured by a temperature scale:You see this scale in light bulbs packaging sometimes. This information is vital for photographers, set designers, movie makers, and guys like me (I have to say, I make lamps for a living now, but this quirk comes from way back hehe).—I’m a shameless advocate of warm light usage. When I’m in your house for the first time and notice how every light is warm, I’ll casually say: “Warm lights I see.. Nice. I can’t stand those cool lights.. who can RIGHT?”Laughs. Sips wine. From the previous examples you could argue that I chose a very bad example of cool light usage, you’d say “That’s not even a house!”, and how the warm light picture carries other coziness enabling elements such as cushions, plants, a balcony and an overall thoughtful interior design. And you’d be right. I weighted my case by showing you a better warm light picture, to convert any of you who might be, for some unkown reason (I can’t believe I’ll say this), doubtful, about what kind of light temperature you’ll chose.—I’ve read somewhere that this preference for warm lights may be related to our tribal behaviour, of gathering around fire pits and all. The end result is that I feel considerably better if the house, or any place to be honest, is lit with warm lights. So if your place has cool lights, I invite you to make the switch. You’ll see what I’m talking about.

I want to be an interior designer?

I am an interior designer and think it's great that at the age of 15 you already know what you want to do! The fact that your family comes to you when they need design help is enough to say that you ARE creative. With experience and knowledge you will become a better designer. Throughout college I wasn't as creative as I am today, but that's because I've learned a great deal by interning and working in the field.

Just beware that being an interior designer isn't all glam as HGTV makes it seem. Those people are really interior decorators (not all but the majority). You will need to know how to build things just as an architect does. There is a program called AUTOCAD and like it or not (everyone hates it) you will need to know it!!!! Especially if you want to go into commercial design. That is another thing you will have to decide, do you want to do residential or commercial design? I am in commercial and work on restaurants, spas, etc. I have a blast!

It's not hard to get a job as an interior designer. Architectural firms are always looking for designers (this also depends on your location). My first job I made $29,000 salary, but I'm not in the greatest city to make loads of money. I am now working for a new company and I am making a lot more!!

To prepare yourself now, learn about products (i.e. furniture, upholstery, etc.). Get familiar with the latest and greatest design products. A great resource is Interior Design magazine (they also have a good website www.interiordesign.net), Metropolis, & Contract magazine.

Also, it may sound intimidating, but contact a local firm and ask if you could just come over for a bit to check out what an interior designer does, what environment they work in. My previous firm and current firm have high school students do that all the time!!!!!!!

If you decide to go into interior design, go to a good school and intern as much as possible.

I love my job, really!! You sound like you have a good eye and don't doubt yourself! You'd be surprise what you can design! The best reward within this job is designing and creating a space and then after it's executed, to actually walk through it and say to yourself, "wow, I actually made this!" It's an incredible feeling!

Hope all this helped and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Is Nate Berkus (the interior designer who comes on Oprah) gay?

OPRAH WINFREY’s favorite decorator NATE BERKUS lost his partner, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, late last year in the Asian tsunami.

ON MONDAY, JAN. 17, NATE BERKUS, the gay interior designer on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” appeared on screen for the first time since last year to talk about how his partner perished in the tsunami that hit parts of Asia and Africa on Dec. 26.

Berkus discussed the loss of his partner, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, in a forthright manner. In the past, however, he had appeared to be coy about his sexual orientation (no doubt to encourage his legions of lusty female fans). But on this particular episode, he was frank about his love for Bengoechea and the grief he is suffering from his loss.

This above clip i found states that nate is gay................

Teacher or interior designer?

Hi Rebecca, I just graduated in December with my BFA in Interior Design. I went to an expensive school because of all the glamorous promises. I went to school soley for that and it teaches you so much more than you think! AutoCAD for Architecture I and II is the best thing you'll learn, 3D Max and Revit, so is manual drafting and reading an architectural scale. You said you live in a small town? Well most small towns don't have a full blown acredited Interior Design programs, so you would only get the "decorating" part of it and not the Architecture part. Do some research around your area to see what all classes you would take. If they offer a BFA in Interior Design you can then in turn use that BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) to get into and ATC (Alternative Teaching Certificate) program right after you graduate! That ATC can get you Elementary to High School teaching level. Look into that as well.

I wanted to do my ATC because I love kids, but the economy is so bad right now and my city is laying off teachers :(. I live in Houston, TX and work for a high end interior design firm (where I started almost 4 years ago in my Freshman year of college) and we are hurting right now. I am currently seeking my Civil Engineering degree!! Some concept of designing, just a lot of math and physics.... Keep looking into things and don't limit yourself!

Remember.... Interior Designers are a LUXURY not a necessity. It's like a wedding planner, you don't really need them unless you are totally desperate or stressed, or rich!

If I were you, I'd start off of course at a community college and get all of your basics out of the way (2years) will give you time to think about what you want to do!

Goodluck :)

Interior design for a tattoo shop.?

When initially walking up to a tattoo shop, I look for cleanliness. If there are smears of handprints all over the glass in the door, nothing outside to hold cigarette butts, and there's trash all around, I keep walkiing.

Once inside, I still look for cleanliness and care. The floor needs to be clean, the display art in good shape, and the soda machine better not be empty with those annoying red lights on. I like the idea of being able to see work being done, but there needs to be at least one private room for tattooes or piercings in... ahem... sensitive areas of the human anatomy. Dueling stereos also tends to bother me, as I go to my safe warm place by breathing in sync with the beat of the music. A clean restroom is also a plus! Running out of toilet paper is bad, really bad.

I like the walls to have tasteful art on them, not just pics of ink and metal. I also like shops that have something for you to do while waiting for your turn in the chair. A pool table or some video games would be a nice touch. I can reccomend a candy dispenser as well, as sucking on hard candy or chewing gum will help for those that are a bit nervous about getting inked.

Just some ideas, hope that helps.

How do you say "Interior Designer" in Italian?

Arredatore/arredatrice(d'interni)

My parent is an interior designer and I don’t want her to know when I buy a house. Is this possible? Read description please.?

Hello! My stepmom is a interior designer and I really don’t want her to know when I buy a house until after I decorate it or hire someone else to decorate it. To be honest, she is a very good interior designer, but her work is almost the opposite of styles I love. She is a very “only my way” and “do as I say” kind of person. I know if I even mention to her that I am getting a house then my dreams will be over and she will decide that she has the perfect plan. I just don’t think I will tell her. How does doing it all by myself and then tell her I have a surprise to show her and make a big reveal to her and let her help me out with the garden and exterior if she wants sound? I don’t want her to be upset, but I know her and I know that she will not be very understanding of what I desire for MY house that I buy. Any experience with this kind of thing?
