When Seeting Up A Vpn Connection How Do You Know What To Use For The Server Name Do You Have To

How to setup VPN connection in my Dlink router?

My router : Dlink DSL-2730U, I want to setup my VPN account directly in router's setup page.
I found IPSec setup page and I can put my pre-shared key but I don't see where to put the user name and password, there is other settings to put which I can't find in my VPN account information.
Thanks

I m working with tcs in chennai.how could i use sametimeconnect from my home..what is the link for that?

Not sure what you are asking - what do you want to connect from home?

You wan to connect to the Internal Server / VPN of TCS - that's not possible -- it would be fire walled.

Or you want to connect to your Intranet site and use the services like mail etc; that may be possible.

What are good ways  to set "pptp vpn" connection from backtrack to a vpn server?

I've successfully create PureVPN PPTP connection on backtrack Linux following the steps below: 1) Open the Terminal and install a Network-manager, enter: sudo apt-get install network-manager2) After installation Network-manager, please run upgrade code:cp /etc/network/interfaces{,.buckup}echo "auth lo" > /etc/network/interfacesecho "iface lo inet loopback" >> /etc/network/interfaces3)Then run restart network-manager commandservice network-manager startnm-applet &4) Open the Network menu and choose VPN Connections, select Configure VPN.5) In the window «Network Connections» click «Add» to add a new VPN connection.6) From the list you need to select the «Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)» and click «Create».7) In the resulting window, enter the following information:    Connection name: VPN    Gateway: Enter the server IP address    User name: your VPN username     Password: your VPN password Click «Advanced».8) Check "Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)", click "OK".9) Click "Apply".10) Now, to connect using the new connection must be re-click on the list of available connections and select the point to «VPN Connections» → «VPN».11) Successful connection will testify appeared padlock icon on the connections.Hope it could help.

Is VPN free on iPhone? I already have a setting for it in my settings app. So is it free?

When you open the VPN setting, if you see one or more server names, a VPN has already been configured on your phone, perhaps by your employer. If only “Add VPN Configuration” shows, you would have to set one up.A VPN (oversimplified) is a service that allows your device to act as if it is somewhere else. There must be a server ‘at the other end of the line’, to which you must have authorization to connect. There are hundreds of commercial VPN services commonly used for privacy, anonymity, or accessing videos or other resources normally blocked in your country. These services are not free; some offer brief free trials, or money-back guarantees if you cancel within a short period. ExpressVPN is a popular one.Your employer may have a VPN server for their teleworkers, providing access to company data not accessible to the public. It’s provided free to you, so you can do work while away from the office. If you have broadband internet at home, you can set up your own VPN server on a router with that feature, or on a PC that is always left on. This would give you privacy (for example when connected to public Wi-Fi at a restaurant), but would not help with anonymity (your ISP at home knows who you are), nor would it unlock any resources (unless your home is in another country).

VPN issues with server 2003?

I have 3 windows 2003 servers running as VPN servers on my home networking. two are for testing and development and one is for production
the VPN testing servers work just fine and allow me to login from within the network and outside of it.
the connection to the production server times out while "verfiying user nameand password" or "registering your computer on the network".

the error message on the calling computer is 733: a connection to the remote computer could not be completed. you might need to adjust the protocols on this computer.

the error message in the server log is
The user XXXXXXX connected to port VPN5-126 has been disconnected because no network protocols were successfully negotiated.

the event ID is 20050
I re-installed the VPN server several times, but had no luck.
i searched microsofts database, but had no luck. all of their topics were about NT server or 2000 not 2003 server. these errors come up when connecting from the network or outside the network

Can someone see my actions on the same Wi-Fi network even if I use VPN?

No, they cannot, with a few highly unlikely caveats. If somebody were also on the wireless network and sniffing all traffic, all they would see coming from your machine would be encrypted gibberish. Even if they broke the encryption (WPA, for example) of your packets to the router, then they would just have a different batch of encrypted gibberish, since the packets were already encrypted for the VPN connection before they were encrypted for the router connection. All they would gain by breaking the router’s encryption would be knowledge of the IP address of the VPN you are connecting to.If they control the router, and thus can bypass WPA or whatever encryption the router uses, they just get knowledge of the IP for the VPN more easily. Again they’ll see a steady stream of traffic to that same IP address, but the contents of that stream are encrypted gibberish to them.Note that if they have control of the machine managing the VPN, of course they can monitor your behavior.Three possible but unlikely scenarios could allow your VPN traffic to be read. First, if the VPN is using an out-of-date, broken encryption method, an attacker might be able to decrypt it. Second, a specific attack related to old and potentially mis-configured VPN servers is that under the right circumstances, they might capture the VPN’s private key. Finally, if you are a serious enough target that is worth dedicating resources to capture your information, a man-in-the-middle attack might work. To do this, they would need a dedicated machine just outside of the router’s network that impersonates the VPN you want to connect to; the most likely place to do so would be in the ISP’s server room nearest your connection. So: unless the VPN is mis-managed or you’re up against an NSA-level attacker, you are fine.

Can one track my real IP address when I use VPNs?

Generally speaking, yes.Your VPN still runs from your IP address to the VPN server. Your ISP can still see all the packets running from your computer to the VPN server, and although they may not be able to decode the contents or final destinations of them, they can usually still identify the kind of traffic (i.e. web pages, streaming, P2P, etc) by analysing the timing and density. Can your final destinations “track” your IP address when you connect to them via a VPN connection, no, they cannot. The VPN server will mask your IP address when connecting to your destinations on your behalf. That being said, if you use your regular browser, even on VPN, you will still be exposing all of your cookies, and websites will still know who you are as your IP address is usually immaterial to them.

How do I setup a SMTP Mail Server behind a VPN/Firewall Device?

What server OS are you using? If Unix, you probably already have a mail server installed and ready to use. You just need to configure it. You might try hiring someone local to get you set up the rest of the way. It won't be all that expensive. I do that for a living and I don't charge a lot :)

When using a VPN, does the client make a DHCP request from the default gateway and thus expose itself before establishing the secure connection?

How do you connect to a VPN?There is usually a domain name which is basically a single (or multiple) IP address that your laptop/phone needs to connect to. Once you initiate the VPN connection to this domain name, the VPN server will authenticate you and follow a set of steps before you are authenticated and authorized to use whatever resources you are accessing. How do you reach the domain name?Your laptop/phone NEEDS information about where the domain name/IP address of the VPN server is residing. Thus, your device will send a request to the DHCP server to get the DHCP information which includes the default gateway and DNS server.Using your internet connection, your laptop will send the request to the VPN server.
