When Should You Change Up Your Workout Routine

How often should I change up my workout routine?

In all honesty, the whole thing about your body eventually getting used to a certain exercise and stop growing is not actually a proven fact. However having said that, I myself do change up my workouts each week just on the off chance that it is in fact truth ;) I myself usually switch things around every week, but I know lots of people who stick with the same workouts for a month before going on to new movements. It's really up to you. As I've stated before, since it is not actually a proven fact, dont feel the need to rush off and change things around each week. I myself just like to because I am always watching Bodybuilders on Youtube working out, and every once in a while I'll see them doing a workout that I've never seen done before, so I'll add it into my routine to see if it works out that particular muscle better then I've done in the past.

P.S.
The link you provided isnt going to get you the muscle gains you want bro. If you ever watch bodybuilders train, you'll always notice 2 things in common, they all do 5-8 sets for 10-12 reps. The magazines and the online stuff might say otherwise, but go onto youtube and see for yourself. When you see the full training routine, you'll notice they do them for those numbers. Also try and break it up more then what they do. Something like this.

Monday - Legs
Tuesday - Shoulders
Wednesday - Chest
Thursday - Back
Friday - Triceps
Saturday - Biceps
Sunday - Off

When you do this pick out 3-4 different exercises, and remember that on the first exercise you want to warm the muscles up by starting light, and then going heavier. But when you get to the next exercises, your muscles are already warmed up, so dont start off really light and work your way up, instead start off at a weight thats semi challenging, and work your way up to really tough. Ideally you want your last set to be something where you can only do 6-8 reps before your body gives out. This is how you train for muscle. Anyone who says otherwise is pretty much saying that pro bodybuilders havent got a clue how to build muscle lol

Why do you change your workout routine?

This is all ancient shit, that was first put forth back in the 1970's by Joe Weider in his muscle mags. Joe was smart enough to write down stuff the guys in the body building fraternity had come up with, and gym owners like Vince Gironda had experimented with.Changing routines frequently "shocks" the muscle into growth. The whole concept of muscle hypertrophy is based on the bodies ability to adapt to stress. We fool it into thinking we need more muscle and it grows us some. But is gets used to things quickly. So moving from flat bench to dumb bell presses or cable flyes to dumb bell flyes change things just enough that the body has to begin to adapt again. There are a whole host of "principles" laid out to help in building muscle. Things like the "pre-exhaustion principle" where you do isolation exercises to tire out specific muscles before doing a compound exercise. Like doing flyes before you do bench presses. The larger chest muscle is then already tired but your triceps are not, so when you do bench presses you are asking the chest to do a lot more work than if it had been fully rested. The "Push Pull principle" where you work opposite muscle groups, like chest-back in super sets. First a set of bench and then a set of rows or pull downs. Biceps and triceps. "Super set principle" where you move from one related exercise say for the chest to another in a cycle of say four different exercises, and then repeat. This takes up a lot of gym real estate and in commercial gyms is hard to pull off without tying up a lot of weights or machines.Believe me there is nothing new in the world of lifting weights that hasn't been around for fifty years. They just slap a new name on it and try to sell it as new.

How often should you change your workout routine?

you want to "shock" your body as you said? No need to change anything, just the type of cardio.

do HIIT training. It stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Basically you push yourself to the max (until you are huffing and puffing) for one solid minute, then do lower impact (rest) for 2 minutes, repeat that for 20-30 minutes. Your body wont know what to do becuase you keep changing it constantly, so its forced to compensate by burning more calories and fat.

trust me, it works. Do that 5 times a week and you wont hit so many plateaus.

google HIIT

Is it bad to keep doing the same workout routines?

YES! Without any kind of change, your muscles will get used what you are doing and they will stop improving to the point that you will just be wasting time. Every month, you should make changes to your routine. Whether you change the exercises, the rep/set schemes, weight, rest periods or anything else your body will be forced to work and improve.

I would definitely add new exercises. The ones that you listed only work your small muscles. You need to do exercises that work the most muscle groups and especially your major ones (Chest, Back, Shoulders, Legs, Core).

What is the best way to change your workout routine?

If you follow the same workout routine, your body gets used to it and eventually reaches its plateau (neutral point) after which you won't see considerable changes(gains) in your body.Change is necessary and doing it after 3 / 6 or 8 weeks is essential. How to change?Just do the same workout using a different equipment (for instance, if you used dumbbells, now you'll use cables/barbell)Change sets and rep-ranges.What should be constant?Your routine (as in if you're doing biceps on monday, you should keep the same on monday and just change/do variations with the workouts)You can, however change the routine as well after doing 3-4 variations in the workouts.

How often should you change your routine?

For spiritual progress it's best to stick to a strict daily routine in the same way as Islam does or as a monastery does. Mahatma Gandhi said “you need the patience of a man trying to empty the sea with a tea cup.” For things like taiji and martial arts and meditation, the key to success is a strict daily routine. For cardio, I think most people would agree, that varying your routine is a good thing. If your talking about study then you should stick to your set times to study. The ego will find any excuse to be lazy and set routines are a very good way to control it. Happiness comes through discipline. You can be spontaneous in your free time.

Why should you change your workout every 4-6 weeks? What types of changes can be made?

If you keep doing the same workout day in and day out, your muscles will get used to it and will never reach their full potential. They sort of "plateau". I do weight training 2 or 3 days a week and I like to switch my weight amount and # of reps every few weeks. I'll do 4 sets of 15 reps with less weight for a few weeks, then I'll switch to 3 sets of 10 reps with heavier weight for a few weeks. I do cardio 3 days a week and change it up alot so I don't get bored doing the same thing. I basically pick what I want to do on my cardio day, whether it's jog on the treadmill, jog in my neighborhood, ride my bike, brisk walking, or an aerobics dvd. As long as you're having fun and getting your heart rate to a fat burning level, you're doing great!
