When Someone Is Bidding On Ebay

Can I make an offer on eBay when someone else has placed a bid on the item that I wish to buy?

Do you mean you don’t want to bid, you just want the seller to end the auction and sell to you?Well, you can try. Most sellers will say no. Some will then Block you from bidding. To begin with, the high bid you see is not that bidder’s maximum bid.If an auction opens at $10 and I bid $100, my bid will show as $10. Only if another bidder comes in at $99 will I have to pay that maximum bid.And smart sellers know that. Some bidders come in early as a placekeeper, planning to bid more later. And smart sellers know that.Early bidding is a sign that an auction will be popular. And smart sellers know that. Most bidding happens in the last few minutes or even seconds of the auction. And smart sellers know that. Most eBay auctions are only seven days and shipping can take more time than the auction. If you have to have it fast, buy locally.Otherwise, bid.Bid once and bid your maximum. You may pay less than you would by making an offer.

How long does it take for someone to bid on your item on ebay?

They can start bidding right now. It is not unusual to not receive any bids until a day or two before the auction ends, sometimes minutes before. Ebay shows items ending soonest so most people won't look at the hundreds of computer auctions ending before yours. Also people are reluctant to bid on two similar items at one time because they are stuck with their bid on your computer if they win another one first. You can get some idea of how many people are interested by how many people are watching your item. Ebay shows you how many are actively watching your item as well as how many have seen your listing. Also many people don't bid until minutes or seconds before the auction ends. The practice is known as sniping. If you are concerned about it going too cheaply then put a reserve price on it or raise your minimum bid. You can change your listing only before the first bid is received.

I'm watching your item just to see how it turns out for you. Good luck.

Why am I overbid by someone who bid the same price on eBay?

This is a very unfortunate event that happens to many bidders. Someone sets their maximum bid at a round figure like £5. You do not know this. The displayed auction price might be say £3.25. You decide that the item is worth £5 and snipe bid accordingly in the last few seconds of the auction to avoid someone outbidding you afterwards. eBay informs you that you have been outbid. The sell price is £5 so you have been outbid by 0p. How did this happen? On Ebay, the first bid(s) have priority. As somebody already set their maximum bid at £5 if you bid £5 you will still be outbid by them. Why did the auction price show £3.25 then? When this other person set their maximum bid Ebay only increased the price by the bid increment necessary to keep the person who has set the maximum bid in the lead. If these prices were the case and you bid £3.45 you would have been outbid by 20p and the person who had set their maximum bid at £5 would be winning the item at £3.65.You were outbid by 0 cents as the maximum bid of the buyer that outbid you was 0 cents more than/the same as your bid.To avoid this, try bidding $5.02 if you are in the same situation next time. It is quite likely that someone will have set their maximum at $5 and you will win the item.I would bid $5.02 instead of $5.01 as other people who know this trick might have already set their maximum at $5.01 and you will still win the item by 1 cent.I know my explanation was complicated but to conclude, if two people bid the same amount, the first bid has priority. So the second bidder will get outbid by the first bidder.Hope this helps :-)

When do people start bidding on ebay items?

Many people wait until near the end. There is no advantage to bidding early since you must return later to see the latest bid. You can give a maximum bid and eBay will only apply the minimum but once the maximum is reached you are out. That is why many people wait until the end. There are even programs that will automatically bid at the last second.

Could you get away with shill bidding on Ebay?

Shill bidding is against the rules of Ebay. They have algorithms to detect it by seeing accounts with reoccurring affiliation by bidding on items of another accounts frequently, but what could someone hypothetically work around this by only shill bidding once with a separate account and then and again with a different unique one. Essentially bidding on their own account with a lucrative bot network or paying other people to for profit. Or would Ebay be able to detect this or fix their systems to pick up on it somehow?

Can I kick one of the bidder on Ebay?

You kick the bidder by deleting their bid(s).

You can BLOCK the bidder to keep them from bidding on the auction or future auctions of your as well. I highly suggest you do so...

Be sure to list " 0 feedback bidder" as your reason for canceling their bid.

If its the last 12 hours of the auction, the bidder cannot cancel their own bid. This is supposed to deter "bid shielding", which is a form of fraud and cheating.

All the kicks and bans can be found in the SafeHarbor section...

Can you stop other people from bidding on ebay items to get it for really cheap?

Hello,

Nope, you can't do that. However, you can wait until close to the end of the auction and start bidding then. You can also sort by newly listed and see if anyone has a reasonable buy it now. OR you can watch the endings of listings at odd times (1am for example) that will reduce the number of buyers out there. Lastly, you can search for items that may have been misspelled by their seller. Example: you are looking for a coach purse - search by coache, coche, koach....

Good luck!

What happens if no one bids on you ebay item?

If no one bids on an item and the auction ends, the item then goes into your unsold items list on your ebay account page. You then have the option of relisting the auction again to see if it will sell. If it sells the second time, your insertion fee is credited to your account. You do pay an insertion fee every time you list an item, and it is nonrefundable. If you decide not to relist, the item will disappear from your unsold list after a few days, so it is important to decide fairly quickly if you are going to relist the item. You really need to go on ebay and read the tutorials about how the entire operation works. It is also very helpful to go on ebay and print out the rate schedule for the fees, also on Paypal as well, since you are charged a fee to receive funds each time there as well.
