What does the xxx mean when someone types in their name at the end of a email?

Kiss Kiss Kiss

If I want to email someone, but I don't want them to know my name, and my email has my last name in it, should I tell them a false name?

The answers below are correct, but if you really want to do this, there’s a workaround. You may configure a email client (like Mozilla Thunderbird) and fill the ‘Name’ and ‘Email’ fields using another name and address. Since ‘Username’ , ‘Authentication Type’ and ‘SMTP Server’ fields are filled correctly, you’ll still be able to send your message, but the addressee will see what you’ve wrote in the ‘Email’.Of course, if the addressee is an expert one, your real e-mail address may be found at the hidden email header, but most people never look at it.You can test it by sending a message to a friend and ask him/her to see if he/she’s got your email before doing it for real. But, please, have in mind you should not usualy do this, since it’s not very nice.

How do I get someone elses name off my yahoo e-mail?

Name change for mail - follow these steps:

1: Click Options in the upper-right corner of your mail page, select "mail/more options".

2: From the list on the left, click "accounts".

3: Click "Yahoo! Mail" under accounts.

4: In the "your 'From' name" field, enter your name exactly as you'd like it to appear within your outgoing messages.

5: If you leave the Reply-To field blank, your Yahoo! Mail address will be automatically included as the return address in your outgoing messages. If you'd like a different return address to be included, enter it in the Reply-To field

6: Click the Save button to put your new settings into effect.

Note 1: you have to write something in the "name" field, because if you don't, whatever was written there before will be restored and your changes won't be saved. Please note that it isn't possible to 'hide" your email address when sending messages from a Yahoo! Mail account. When you send a message, your address will appear in the "from" field in the header of the message.

Note 2: "from" can't contain special characters like the "@" symbol. And the address in "reply to" can't exceed 40 characters.

What should I do when people put my name after other people's names when sending emails?

No, you are not doing the right thing. The first priority in any email exchange is to get the work done, so address the substance of the message and ignore other elements that annoy you -- the tone, the distribution list or whatever. Remember that at the end of the year people are measured on business results, not who won the most email battles. But once the work has been done it is certainly a good idea to address your concern, though not by revenge and retaliation. If the person sending these emails is a colleague you know well you could try explaining politely that this practice annoys you and ask if it is possible to not do it. But make sure that you say that with a smile and not sound whiny. You could also try to discuss the issue with a colleague to find out if that is the normal practice in your organization. You might find, though, that there isn't anything to do about it but get used to it. You don't mention where this is happening but in cultures that emphasize hierarchy it is common for bosses to be at least copied in emails or even made the addressee as a formality to show respect. In more egalitarian cultures like the Netherlands and Sweden you would address messages only to the person doing the work. It is possible that you are simply not familiar with the cultural matrix of your workplace. You also have to be extremely careful to address people at the right level to avoid giving offense. This is another possible explanation for the problem. Perhaps you have inadvertently sent a message to someone who outranks you and they feel uncomfortable about replying directly, so they respond to someone above you.Different attitudes to hierarchy cause many problems in email communication. In some cases you can solve the problem simply by changing the way that you use email, but in others you might need to just ignore the way people address the emails and just focus on the content. You will not be able to change the culture of your organization or your country on your own.

Why is someone else's picture showing up for my email address when I compose an email? My profile is private with no picture.?

The images that are displayed along with auto-suggested email addresses are pulled from the Yahoo Profile of Yahoo addresses or the Facebook picture of those accounts, if you have your Yahoo account connected to your Facebook account. This is most likely where this photo is being pulled from. I recommend double checking that Facebook picture as a first step. Please let us know if you continue to see any inaccurate photos listed alongside suggested addresses. We would be happy to investigate further.

For more information on the auto-suggest feature I also recommend taking a look at our overview help article 'Auto-Suggest in Yahoo Mail'. You can find the link to it here:

Someone stole my yahoo account and is sending emails claiming to be me. What do i do?

Change your password on your Yahoo account immediately. Also, scan your computer for viruses and spyware since those can result in stolen passwords. If you find viruses or spyware, after cleaning them, change the passwords on all of your online accounts.
