Why does my air conditioner trip the circuit breaker?
The circuit breaker may be undersized for the load, but assuming the air conditioner used to work, the condenser coil may be dirty, which causes the condensing temperature to rise so the compressor needs to work harder and draws more power. That may also occur on very hot days, which also raises the condensing temperature. The easiest way, if it's a condensing unit, the outdoor piece of a split system, is to spray the condenser coil with a hose to clean it; that should be done a least once a year depending on the climate and the dirt around the unit, and a professional tech would take it a step further by taking the exterior panels off the unit and cleaning the coil with a cleaning solution.
