Do I burn more fat at a “fat burn” heart rate or an “aerobic” heart rate?

There is NO “fat burn” heart rate. The idea seems to come from some rank amateur that never seriously looked at the research on nutrient utilization during exercise. Some fat is utilized at essentially all heart rates up to about 90% of your aerobic capacity. A mix of glycogen and fat are used to support exercise. The proportion of each changes with intensity, with about a 50:50 mix at relatively low intensities to 90+% at intensities near the aerobic maximum. The mix depends on a number of factors. including: diet, duration of exercise, relative conditioning, intensity, rest periods and other factors. With better aerobic conditioning, the mix slightly favors fat utilization; with a high fat diet, it favors fat utilization; as exercise is prolonged, it favors progressively greater fat utilization. It changes. If one wants to use a very high proportion of fat, exercise moderately hard for 90+ minutes, be on a low carb diet, be already well adapted to aerobic exercise, include a few intervals - something that few would want to do. Also, the total time one can exercise at that intensity will be shorter than someone that had a normal to high carb diet.Note that although exercising at a relatively low intensity will utilize a higher proportion of fat, the total fat utilized in 40 minutes at a higher intensity may utilize about the same total amount of fat. More glycogen is used to support the higher intensity while more total calories are used. Also note that if glycogen is relatively depleted by higher intensity, a higher proportion of fat will be utilized by muscle during recovery.Perhaps the reason that low intensity might be considered “fat burning” is that those with a goal of a lot fat loss may only be capable of exercising at a relatively low intensity for long periods of time. If cardiovascular conditioning is a more important goal, then continually exercising at 75% for a shorter period of time is better than going slower and using the same number of calories at 50% for a longer period. And HIIT is better than a steady 75% for cardio. Adjust intensity to keep safe and injury free.Do not consider heart rate as any kind of measure of energy utilization for weight training. Lifting weights will almost exclusively use glycogen and creatine phosphate as energy sources. As explained above, fat will be used by the muscles during recovery and [with protein] to support hypertrophy [muscle building] during rest.

Heart rate to burn fat & lose weight?

No, you will burn fat at the aerobic zone just as well (or more so) than at the fat burning zone. The only problem is sustainability. It's better to burn fat by doing a workout for 1hr at lower intensity than burning it for 30mins at a higher intensity. But as to not make this any more confusing - if your heart reate is above the "fat burning zone" you'll be burning fat.

For an average person it is about 5 liters per minute.Another factor is that an endurance trained person will always have a lower resting heart rate than normal.Which makes resting heart rate irrelevant in any calculation of calorie burn.

Is your fat burn higher when doing cardio heart rate activity? I want to lose fat and I don’t know if I should focus on fat burn or cardio heart rates.

If you do steady rate cardio (jogging, for example), you burn more calories from fat than doing high intensity cardio (like HIIT), where you burn more from sugar. Proportionally.But, you'll still lose more overall calories from fat during HIIT. And, if done properly, you'll achieve EPOC, or the “afterburn effect”. You spark it during compound, high intensity strength training, so don't rule that out for weight loss as well.Hope this helps for starters. It depends on what percentage of your heart rate you are working at the ideal is to be using your aerobic system which means using oxygen to transport the blood to the muscles used if you are maintaining your heart rate or going over slightly then this is what you will be using if you are going alot over you will start to use your an-aerobic system this is when you are out of breath and going ten shades of red this also means the oxygen isn't getting to your muscles and you are less likely to be burning fat but your making lactic acid which will make your muscles sore the next day this is a negative.

Fat burning = 220 minus your current age x 70%

So, for example, if you are 22 and you wish to train your heart, 220 - 22 = 198 x 90% = 178 bpm. You need to work up to this zone and stay in it for at least 15 minutes to get benefits - 30 minutes would be better.
