When Us Democrats State That People Are Selfish And Money Should Not Matter

Why do some people hate Ronald Reagan?

Reagan, was our greatest president in the 20th Century.
In this country you have the "wanters" and "takers". Everybody is wanting something for themselves. Yes, you could say we are selfish.
Kennedy once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country". At that time, many of us were still Democrats and took that to mean that we should not ask our government (at taxpayers expense) to
do for us what we could do ourselves. We were proud Americans.
That changed when we started feeling the burdens of the welfare state and the lawlessness perpetuated by lienient judges and Democrats pandering for votes. We no longer felt save or thought it was wise to bring a child into a world such as ours.
Reagan reminded us who we were and gave us hope again that we could turn things around. We did.
He didn't care what anyone thought. He said what he meant and changed the world. And the liberals lost momentum- that's why they still don't like Reagan. He brought us back to our conservative roots.
It's my contention that we should all be middle-ground. Too conservative is bad and too liberal is bad. Liberal is supposed to mean caring and thoughtful and tolerant. It doesn't mean that anymore!! It means meanness and hatefulness.

Is it generally true that Republicans are more selfish and Democrats are more compassionate?

What Rob Weir says has been shown to be true, and I can explain it. The republicans think the best way to help is by doing it ourselves, privately and without the government involvement, because the government will tend to squander the money on Bureaucracy. And let's be honest they pretty much do. The democrats on the other hand think the government does a fantastic job at managing our money. The real difference is the republicans are actually pretty generous with their own money, while the democrats are extremely generous with other people's money. By the way those studies, at least one that I know of was done by a leftist professor who wanted to show how greedy conservatives are and how generous liberals are. Needless to say he was very disturbed with his findings. Predictably some leftists then did their own study and made sure that the results worked out the "correct way".Also republicans actually want poor people to be prosperous, contrary to what democrats say and there are a couple of reasons for this. For one thing most Americans of any party are compassionate. And then even if you look at any conservatives who maybe are not, they still have motivation to want poor people to be prosperous because then they will be tax payers instead of needy recipients of government handouts. Also if anybody has motivation to want to keep poor people poor it is democrats. Because once the poor people are no longer poor, the policies of the democrats no longer look as good. And on the other hand after they become prosperous the republican policies start to look much better. Because the republicans policies say that you should get to keep more of the hard earned money that you make. And with those policies it doesn't matter what race you are either.Just for the record I don't care for the majority of either party and don't think either of them live up to their principles. I would really like to see a 3rd party succeed. I probably like Rand Paul the most out of all the republican candidates and they will never let him win. I also like Ted Cruze, but that position that he had on that trade deal was a huge ding against him for me.

What are some of the major problems in democracy?

“Democracy is the worst form of Governance except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time” ~ Winston ChurchillOf all the things a ‘true’ democracy promises, it certainly delivers on fairness of its nomenclature, as the ‘rule of the people’ ensures that we shall be governed no better than we deserve. The problems of Democracy are many and all are rooted in the Demos.Let us exemplify few:1) Delayed decision making Different citizens may have different, and often conflicting, expectations on governance. Politics is the art of negotiating these expectations to reach a common agreeable stance. Democratic politics rely heavily on thorough consultative process which leads to elongated delays, yet it ensures greater acceptability of the decision.  The delays can be avoided if the demos develop mutual respect and learn the give and takes of negotiation rather than taking rigid stance.  2) Populism Populist politics or fractional politics are practised only because they work. They are means to an end and not the end. It is the job of a democratic politician to garner maximum support. The product is produced for there is a ready market. The president elect Trump or Brexit, irrespective of their debatable fallacy, confirms that liberal politics is undergoing a bearish time in the mass market.3) Majoritarianism The accusation of equating democracy to ‘majority dictatorship’ is unfounded. A true democracy means the government functioning under rule of law and equal before law and equal protection of law are the basic tenets of it. Where in world a democracy was attempted without ensuring political equality to all and special provisions for minorities it failed. A Democracy without rule of law is a deception.Even with all the limitations, democracy is essential and indispensable for sustainable governance, because as man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, similarly man’s inclination to injustice makes Democracy necessary. The rule of the people can be perfected by on boarding all in decision making process and ensuring everyone’s interest is taken care of in a balanced fashion. In conclusion, all the ills of democracy can be cured by more democracy.

Why is a socialist/liberal agenda immediately frowned upon in these boards.?

Socialism and Liberal views or the left in most countries around the world are pretty noble views.

To put the price of human life greater than the value of money is not neccesarily a bad thing. Its the socialists around the world that brought about free or relatively free healthcare (Canada, Sweden)

Its a socialist and liberal policy to provide free education. and really is it so bad to care about your fellow human beings.

Just because someone doesn't support a right wing state of mind doesn't mean they are against the country they just would like to change a few priorities.

Plus America doesn't have a liberal party both the Republicans and Democrats are right winged. Democrats just leaning more towards the center.

Why do people vote Republican?

Why do people vote Republican? Because they are rich and want to get richer. They use morality issues to sucker people into their party who will not benefit from their policies. They definitely aren't ignorant, and I wouldn't call almost half of the country evil. But they are selfish. If what you mean by progression is moving toward a more egalitarian society, they're going to be against it because they don't want to lose their money/power.

What United States president made the best impact on then economy? How?

You already have three great answers identifying Franklin Roosevelt with that honor. To be “fair” to a few other presidents, FDR was elected during a time when catastrophe loomed large on the US horizon. So it makes sense that his excellent leadership would be that much more noteworthy. A president who might have been excellent under similar circumstances but who was elected during a time when the nation was not in the most dire turmoil, might not get the same level of recognition.FDR and his progressive administration, guided the nation to economic recovery during the 1930s, and steered us through a World War as well. The lasting legacy of President Roosevelt was the rise of the US “Middle Class” and the economic policies that brought that prosperity about. Thanks to the enactment of many social policies that existed in the US until the election of Ronald Reagan. That sterling legacy endured for a span of over 50 years! As for “how” this legendary president managed to establish such a long legacy of prosperity and progress for our country, I think his main advantage was that unlike those who followed him in the presidency, Franklin Roosevelt was willing and able to stand up to the Wealthy Class. His policies recognized the threat to freedom and prosperity that the concentration of wealth embodies, and the obligation that the Wealthy Class has to pay their fair share to the support of the nation that makes their enormous wealth possible. Primary among Roosevelt’s many uplifting programs was the US tax code which required the wealthiest Americans to reinvest their enormous fortunes in ways that facilitated the growth of our own economy. By requiring the Wealthy, and the Corporations, to reinvest in our own citizens, we once had a prosperous Working Class that was the envy of the rest of the world. The United States is the wealthiest nation the world has ever known. President Roosevelt simply reasoned that by right, every citizen deserved a fair share of that enormous wealth, and he enacted programs to ensure our mutual prosperity.Tragically, that legacy that brought so much prosperity to so many people for such a long time, has been relentlessly destroyed over the last 40 years as we strip the US Working Class of every benefit and right that was established so long ago by arguably the best president this country has ever had.

Why do people look to government to solve all their problems?

Like health care, why is it the governments responsibility to take care of you? Must have missed that in the Constitution. No one has a right to health care, people can not be turned away in the ER anyway even if their illegal. I do not understand why people believe I should have to pay your health care at gun point. (taxes).

Welfare, why should we give money to lazy bastards who would rather pump out 5 kids they can not afford, than work an honest day? ( I know there are exceptions). Please do not tell me paying taxes is patriotic. It is forced wealth redistribution.

The housing crisis, how is it my problem stupid people do not know what an arm is? Read your damn contracts, if you can not pay your obligations your screwed. It is not my problem or other tax payers problems. Greedy lenders crap makes me sick, it takes more than a lender to buy a house does it not? It takes a dumb *** as well.

Can't find a job? maybe you should learn a new skill, or tough it out and take a lesser paying job.

Minimum wage, why the hell does gov. need to tell an employer how much to pay a high school kid, or a complete dumb *** who has made stupid decisions in life? Should their be a maximum wage since there is a minimum?

Enough of my ramblings, your thoughts.
