When Will I Get My First Paycheck Holding A Paycheck

Will my first paycheck be held?

If the common practice is to calculate checks on Wednesday and then pay on Friday of the same week they are calculated on, then you should get your eleven hours this pay week. However, if the hours on calculated on the week that payroll does NOT happen (as in the checks are calculated on a Wednesday, but then not delivered until the Friday that is 9 days later), then you would only be paid for the hours that happened on December 1. Since that would only be one day, they might hold that day and add it to the following full pay period.

At my company, the payroll is always calculated on the week that you do not get paid and the week that you do get paid on is the middle of the next pay period. This means that it always feels like you are always missing a week. But when you leave the company, your last pay check will catch it all up.

Does best buy hold your first pay check?

No, as the first guy says IT'S ILLEGAL...
People just don't understand how they are paid. It's called paying in a lag.
Depending on when you start with BB it could be 3 weeks before you get your first paycheck. If you start on the 1st day of a new pay period, you will have to work the 2 weeks during the pay period + one week (the lag) while they process payroll = 3 weeks.
But they aren't "holding" your check.

Only small companies and for some salaried job do they not pay in a lag.

FYI - the reason that you don't have "the lag" when you leave, is because most states have laws that you have to pay quickly when you leave (it's illegal at that point, to do the lag).

When will I get my first paycheck? (Holding a paycheck?)?

I started working at Subway Thursday. Paydays are every Friday. I didn't get paid the last Friday because I only worked five hours on Thursday.
My dad says they might "hold" my paycheck...how does this work? He says it's like on the second payday you're getting paid for the first week, and on the third payday you're getting paid for the second week...? Is that right? Why?
Will I get paid this coming Friday for Thursday and Friday, the entire previous week, or will they hold my paycheck again? Until the third Friday?
I'm extremely confused. I'm afraid to ask the manager, I don't want to seem stupid or greedy.

I’m 16 and about to receive my first paycheck. I want to put some or all of it into silver. Is that a mistake? How would I go about selling it back off when I need to?

It’s admirable that you want to invest right away.At 16, you might not be able to exchange commodities in the way that you have in mind (there may be issues of ‘legal capacity’), however, if this is the case, you could ask somebody you trust who has reached the age of majority buy the silver on your behalf ‘in trust’, so that it will be seen as belonging to you, either directly or eventually. There are commodities exchanges that can deal with this sort of thing, and you might never even have to hold the silver in your hand (but rather, you would have ownership over some amount of silver in a warehouse somewhere). You (or the person acting in trust on your behalf) would buy the rights to that silver, and could later sell it on the same exchange. There would be fees involved - likely including transaction fees (fee to buy, fee to sell) and storage fees (which might be invisibly rolled into the commodity price).A few things to keep in mind - commodities can be risky. Their price can go up or down. If you sell as soon as it goes down below your purchase price, you’ll lose money. If you hold it while the market is down, there’s a chance that it may still go up and be worth more again. Buy low, sell high (and don’t necessarily sell everything) - that’s how you make money on something like this. One other thing - you might consider buying more than just silver. If you have several different kinds of investments (stock, commodities, land, bonds, etc), you’ll be at a much lower level of risk when something bad happens in one of these markets. You might not get as much value quickly when one thing does well, but in the long run you will most likely do a lot better.

McDonald's First Paycheck?

I think they meant to say they hold a week. Not the first week in particular. I think your first check will be for your first and second week. They're just always a week behind the calendar. It's pretty common since they have to process payrole and it takes time to get the check to you. It sucks when you're first starting but when you quit you'll still have a check coming so that's nice.

Can an employer hold back my first paycheck even if im a 1099 employee?

First, there is no such thing as a 1099 employee. Either you are an employee, or you're not.

It is a common practice and legal in many states, to pay in arrears. Example: Turn in time sheet on Friday the 3rd, get paycheck on Friday the 10th.

If you are a contractor, then it's certainly allowed to pay you on the same timetable as they pay other vendors.

Why does my new employer hold my first paycheck?

No, it does not mean that you will be paid for two weeks on your second week. And, no, they aren't really "holding" a paycheck. There isn't yet a paycheck to hold.

Every week, you get paid for the previous week. In your second week, you get paid for the first week. In your third week, you get paid for your second week. In your 105th week, you get paid for your 104th week. Etc.

The reason for this is that it takes days to add up how many hours each person worked, calculate how much money they made, calculate how much money to withhold for tax, and print the checks, etc.
