When Will My Cat Have Her Kittens

Why did my cat kill her kittens?

My younger female (18 months) had a first litter of eight kittens. She did well at first, but her milk came in slowly. At feeding time, all eight kittens went to four of her teats which produced milk. She never got milk in her other teats. Even though we monitored her and shifted kittens, they would not nurse on the other teats. She would let them nurse as long as she could, but within two-three weeks she was unable to nurse. The kittens had sucked and chewed those four teats raw. She was unable to feed her kittens. We started bottle feeding them. Then kittens started disappearing. I thought she was moving them out of protective instinct. I was wrong. We found the first kitten in a empty box under the kitchen table. She had suffocated her kitten because she wasn’t able to nurse it. She would wait until we were at work, or sleeping and take another kitten and kill it. We kept bottle feeding, by the time the remaining kittens were a month old there were only two left. Even though they were growing and healthy, she continued to try and kill the last two up until they were almost six weeks old. She would groom them, play with them and they were beginning to eat solid food. Then in the middle of the day, she picked up a kitten and carried it towards the kitchen. By the time we got to her, the baby was gone. She laid or sat on his head and chest until he stopped breathing. We kept the remaining kitten closed in the bedroom, far from his momma. My roommates did not understand why she killed her kittens. Thought she was evil and just didn’t understand. I felt so bad for her. She knew that she could not provide her babies with what they needed to grow and thrive. Matricide(?) happens more frequently than people know. If a kitten is weak, deformed or not thriving, the mother will move it away from the rest of the litter, not care for it or feed it.It is a bit of Darwinism. Pass on the strong genes, survival of the fittest, the carrying on of the species.I cried and buried those kittens. They rest next to my second big orange male “Appolo” and my grey mouser “Bruce”.

When will my cat have her kittens? and why have I never felt them move?

u don't need to separate the cats until she is close to having babies, the only way you could really know is if you knew when she got pregnant, if you know when she was last in heat then count 9 weeks from then and u will have an approximate time, they are pregnant for 65 days on average, can go about 4 days either way to so from 61-69 days, you normally cant tell at all until 3 weeks, and if its been 3 weeks sense then im guessing u have 2 or less weeks left, sense her stomach was already big when u noticed, the nipples come first then the swelling so im guessing she was at least a month when u noticed but the best chance u have now is trying to think of when she was in heat or if you know and do the math, my cat just had babies yesterday 3 healthy adorable lil kittens, u should also if you haven't already start feeding her kitten food instead of cat food, they need more calories and its Better nutrient, so its best to give them kitten food while they are pregnant up until they are done nursing, when u think shes only a few days away from having them, u should have a box with towels or newspapers in it (semi big box) not too high tho so its easy for her to get in and out maybe only a foot or so off the ground, and set it in a room that's warm and not very bright, and at this point you should separate the cats keep the pregnant cat in that room encourage her to sleep in the box, keep her food and litter box in that room, you don't have to do that till maybe 2 days b4 u think shes going to have them, her nipples will start to fill with milk around a couple days b4 so that's a good time to start doing so, hopefully you have two or if you let them out to go to the bathroom she will need one for now, you actually shouldn't have her go out anymore to make sure nothing happens to her or the babies and so ur positive she is going to have them inside where u and her can safely care for them, oh and for the not feeling them move, i was worried about that too, but sometimes they just dont move, hold your hand below her belly and other on the side not hard or anything but press gently every now and again u will feel it u have to keep it there for a lil bit tho

When will my cat have her kittens? (pic)?

I found a pregnant stray cat about 2-3 weeks ago. And she has been "showing", you know fat, since i found her. I read some they don't start showing til 5 weeks in. that make her 7-8 weeks preg. I know they stay preg for 9 weeks but i don't know when she got pregnant or if she started showing early, ect. I would like it if people with experience could look at her latest pic and see how much longer you think she has.

Why did my cat kill her 3 day old kittens?

There could be several reasons, but the most likely is she felt threatened by something. If an animal feels threatened with brand new babies they almost always do one of two things, the first is to abandon them, the second is to kill them. It is a natural reponse meant to protect young from needless suffering, or in order to protect her own life so she can go on to have more babies in the future. If she was a first time mum a couple of other issues could also be in play, very simply confusion from inexperience, and possibly post partum baby blues. Experts are not always sure but suspect hormones can affect animals the same way they affect humans, and sometimes tragedy is the result. Even a vet unless they were there at the time could not be 100% sure, probably not even then. Lastly animal parents have been known to regularly abandon, even kill offspring with birth defects. Just because you could not see something wrong, does not mean they were healthy. It is natures way to try to ensure survival of the fittest, and natures way of trying to make sure food resources are not wasted on offspring that are not healthy enough to survive, and go on to procreate in the future. Cruel. But neccessary I suppose.Lastly she may not have been able to produce milk, or enough milk. If that was the case, a mother will sometimes kill her young if she cannot provide for them, rather than having them suffer. Another instinct of nature meant as a protection.

What do cats do when they are about to give birth to kittens? Is this normal? See details.

Your cat is pregnant, you say she is ready to deliver, she is shaking and has been straining and posturing for at least two days and you wonder if this is normal? She needs to go to the vet ASAP.The kittens could be stuck. They could be dead by now. She could have ruptured something inside. She almost certainly is in distress. She is your cat, which means she depends on you for help. Please take this cat to the vet now.By the way, I have seen numerous cats give birth and the one thing that I have always seen the mother cat do is lick her vagina in between kittens coming out. I don't know whether this is to encourage contractions so that the kittens do come out or if it's comforting to the momcat because her pelvis is getting a workout and she has only natural painkillers to help. But even if you see her doing this, that should not convince you that all is well. It probably just means that it hurts.Think about the worst cramps you've ever had. They are minor compared to even normal birth contractions. And these don't sound normal. For all you know, she is walking abnormally because something is pressing on her spine, like a broken pelvis or a stuck kitten. Two days of trying already. This is not a job for the internet. Please take this cat to the vet.

Why won't my cat have her kittens?!?

I am sorry to say that if she really is that far past her due date there is not much you can do for her without medical intervention. If she does not get the kittens out of her, she will likely get an infected uterus and die from the infection. I wish I had a better answer for you than that. Perhaps if you put it to your mom that way she might at least consider surrendering her to an animal shelter for care.

The only other thing I would say is how do you know exactly how far along she is? Hopefully you have just miscounted her due date since that would be the best thing for you being at the mercy of your mom. Also, does she go outside at all? It is possible she gave birth outside and is either keeping the kittens outside or abandonded them because there was something wrong with them. I recently fostered a pregnant mother cat and she still looked pregnant to me even 8 weeks after delivering her kittens.

As a very last resort, you could make an annoyomous call to animal control and report an animal that is in need of vet care that the owner is not providing. Animal control will likley either force your mom to get the cat care or take the cat away. The draw back to this is that if you cat is an indoor only cat, your mom will probably be able to figure out who made the call. I am sorry your mom is putting you in this position. I wish you and your kitty the best of luck and hope everything works out.

Will a mother cat clean up her kittens waste?

well ive seen many cats have kittens-when they give birth to the kittens they lick them clean and also eat the afterbirth(does sound gross but it's the truth)i think it is nutritional for them as well- then many times a day the mother will clean the kittens all over including their behinds(because a kitten can't go to the bathroom on their own the mother has to stimulate them so they can go-and then of course she does eat it- kittens don't usualy start using the litter box untill they are begining to wean from the mother and are starting to eat hard food-every one is different sometimes earlier sometimes later- a kitten itself can begin to wean between 4 to 6 weeks old nothing much sooner than that but again can be later than 6 weeks as well-it all depends on the mothers attachment to the kittens, and when the kittens are ready. but getting off of track here i just want to let you know to have a box or something ready for her w/ padding or a thin blanket for her-and she may not nessissarily have the kittens in that box, more than likely she has a place already picked out-and nothing you do will change her mind the day she will be giving birth--so what you will need to do is leave her and her kittens where they are for a couple of days-a mother cat on;y knows her kittens by their scent-so if you handle them too soon she may abondan them(most won't because they trust youand know your scent, but some might-so just be causious)-so after a couple of days move them slowly and carefully and as well as moving the mother- then i wouldn't recomend touching or holding or even petting them for 2 more weeks-
so as for changing the bedding i wouldn't chang it because it is more comforting for her with her scent on it already-
hope this answers your question and then some!!

Why would my cat bring me her kittens?

This was a while ago, the kittens are a couple months old now, but as was I reading other peoples questions about newborn kittens, I was thinking about my baby cats and I have some questions.
1) Why would my cat chose to have her kittens in my sisters bed, while she was sleeping in it.
2)When they were tiny, she kept bringing the kittens to me when I was laying on the couch and then leave them with me.

Why would she do this?
