How much will my being on unemployment affect my fafsa aid? And what is my chance of getting any aid to help?

I was laid off a job at the end of '06 and I recieved unemployment for that until July or Aug. of '07. I filled out my fafsa (I am 26 so I am filing as an independent)and my EFC was 5235 so I won't get a Pell Grant. With the unemployment my income was around $19000 and without it it was around $10000 to $11000 but I live on my own and work 2 jobs to make ends meet. I am afraid of getting myself back in the situation I got into last time I tried to go to college and I ended up having student loans and a payment plan where I paid the school $500 a month, and because they did not have dorms but collegiate housing I was also paying $400 in rent. I ended up working 2 full-time jobs and 1 part-time (weekend only) jobs while trying to got to school full-time. I ended up leaving school because I just could not afford it and i was burnt out. And I am still paying that student loan off and I have nothing to show for it but dept. I am trying for scholarships but so far it has been a bust.

What's the difference between Fafsa and Pell?

Disclaimer: I’m the founder of mos.com, an online platform which helps students apply for college financial aidImportant question to understand how financial aid works! FAFSA and Pell are terms that get thrown around a lot, and it’s easy to miss what it is exactly that people are talking about. In a nutshell:The FAFSA is the form you use to apply for financial aid (grants and loans, etc.) from the Federal government - it’s also required by colleges for their aid programsThe Pell Grant is one of the grants (and the country’s biggest grant program) that you can apply for through FAFSAEvery high school student considering college should absolutely fill out a FAFSA. Every year, the Federal and State governments provide over $135 billion in financial aid to students in the form of grants and scholarships, work-study jobs, and student loans. The FAFSA is the way to access those financial aid programs. If you don't apply, you'll miss out and end up paying full-price. Ouch. When you fill the FAFSA, you might qualify for a Pell Grant, based on your level of financial need. The maximum Pell Grant amount is $6,095 and is provided to those with the greatest amount of need. The better a student's family's finances, then the smaller the size of the Pell Grant the student will get.Congrats on your Pell Grant award, and don’t forget to re-submit your FAFSA for every academic year (each application only covers one year)! For even more details on FAFSA vs. Pell, you can also check this article on the subject: What’s the difference between "FAFSA®" and "Pell"?

Why does the gates millennium scholarship not allow caucasians to apply?

Honestly. WTF??? I come from a very underprivileged household, my mom and I have busted out humps to send me to private school, and I am slowly finding out that there is so much discrimination against white people. I didn't ask to be born white. Why should I be punished? I don't want to be buried in loans (which is all that I've been promised at colleges), and I have applied for dozens of scholarships, all of which ended up getting awarded to minority students.

Thanks affirmative action!

Thanks for reading my rant.

Should I go back to school fulltime? (I'm 25)?

Maybe you guys can help. I'm thinking about quitting my fulltime job Ive been at for a year as a receptionist to further my education. I graduated from community college with a 3.9 GPA with an Associates in Administrative Assistance. I immediately found my current job after finishing up with school, however, I have been meaning to leave regardless, because there is no room for advancement.
I was accepted into a well known private University, and I would like to go for my Bachelors and eventually my Masters in Social Work. I would prefer to go fulltime, since that way I can focus fully on school, get it done much quicker, and be on my way.
My current job is working 8-5, and I'm not sure my school has many evening/weekend classes since I'm signing up so late (school starts sep. 1)

My question is....do I leave my current job since I was planning to anyway and go back to school fulltime and work at a job Part-Time maybe on the campus or in retail making peanuts practically? I will lose my health insurance benefits. I will also finish my degree around 30, be new and fresh in the career and job market, and just be starting out.
However, school has always been a top priority for me, and I have always dreamt of being accepted into a University, and now I finally am. I also feel strongly about my career plans and pursuing Social Work.

I would be living at home that entire time. No bills except for an iphone bill of $105 each month, and whatever else I may need. That would be my only bill, as my parents provide for everything else (I don't have a license to drive, so no car payments)

Is this realistic or foolish? Thank you for your help!

When will I obtain my financial aid refund check?

Most schools will wait and not send excess aid out until at least 4 weeks after the first day of the semester. So schools will have a different disbursement date depending on when the semester started.

Also be aware that your calculations of how much of a refund check you are getting back needs to be reviewed. You don't/can't add federal employment in that amount to be refunded to you in a refund check. So just be sure you know Work Study amounts aren't included.

You have to find your own Work Study job, and then work the hours in order to get this money. You get it (separate from your refund check) in the form of a paycheck.. usually every two weeks, sometimes monthly.

How much disbursement money can I expect to get back from university of phoenix Axia college?

Well it all depends on what your pell grant and loans amount to. Out of that money they will hold money for 2 sets of classes so approx 4160 and then refund you the excess. This amount varies due to how much you qualify for on your Pell grant.

My husband is in week 5 of his class and still has yet to see an award letter to let him know how much he is getting back. He was told it takes 30 to 60 days to receive any type of refund.

Some take longer and some take shorter, depends on whether you are picked for verfication process or not.

Goodluck !
