Who will win the World Cup 2014?

I really hope the Oranje win it, they've been the perennial "almost-there" team since the 70's.The creators of total football have also added a dose of tactical acumen to their kitty.If Van Persie doesn't implode and Robben doesn't mind passing the ball every now and then, I can see them going all the way.The Draw has also been sorta kind to them. Mexico in the round of 16.. and then if they qualify for the QF they'll face either Costa Rica or Greece.And then there's the REAL big test. If everything goes according to plan, there will be a Brazil vs Holland Semi final.I'm salivating, already. :DThough I think it could either be Brazil or Argentina who win it. They'll eke results out and then keep the tradition of no European victor on South American soil. But that will just be total travesty.

These countries were headed to the top of the economic ladder, and their growth was predicted to be a straight line up.At a time so filled with hope and promise, it is no surprise that the Lula administration sought to expand Brazil’s presence on the world stage with Olympic and World Cup bids. Brazil didn’t “agree to host the FIFA World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Olympics”, it competed for the privilege…and won.Like all bubbles, Brazil’s BRIC bubble was destined to burst, with growth flat-lining in 2014 and the economy shrinking in 2015 and 2016.Yet, the World Cup was a success, and, despite turmoil in the run-up, the Olympics arguably were too.Whether massive investments for iconic sporting events like the Cup and the Olympics pay off in the long run is another question, and one the world seems to have changed its opinion on rather recently.
