When I used to play games a while back you used to have to match the desktop resolution to the game in order to play full screen. Other than that I havent used Windows 8 much. You can run things in Compatibility mode yes http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-run-older-programs-under-windows-8.html Just looked that up sorry its dummies don't mean to patronize, the only other thing is Your videocard drivers are they up to date certified for Windows 8? Thats all I can think of.

check for the resolution you have set the game to play in and compare with resolution of the monitor you have got. change the resolution of the game from within the game to be same as the resolution of your monitor. this should fix the problem hopefully.
How do I open desktop icons maximized?
I have icons for websites on my desktop. I want them to open maximized every time instead of small like they do now. I am using Windows 7 and I am not talking about opening Internet Explorer from the Start Menu or the Task Bar icon. I only mean internet websites (like Facebook) that I have saved as icons on the desktop. Using the Snap feature or maximizing the window via the usual ways only works for that one time and then the window opens small again the next time. Frustrating!

Using option + shift keys while clicking the green button, or double clicking the bar right of the tabs, then the Chrome screen will fill the whole screen minus dock etc.If you use only the option key when clicking, the Chrome screen will fill the height only, leaving the width whatever the current window is.
