Whens The Right Age To Take A Puppy To Puppy Pre School Or Start Training Him

What is the best age for a German Shepherd to start training?

You can never start training too young, or too old.I got a dog who was 5 months old from a high-kill shelter, and a terrier mix...never walked on a leash, not housebroken, etc...within a week she was housebroken (without a crate - I often work from home), and within two weeks she could sit on command. It's now been 2 and a half weeks...and we're still working on leash training (not pulling) but it's getting better every day. She's a smart, high-energy, easily distracted dog...and if she can do it, so can your dog. We've also gotten dogs who were 10 years old from shelters and were AMAZING dogs. My family had an old Lhasa Apso from a shelter that was initially so timid because she was abused and although always a little shy, was the sweetest, best behaved dog in the world once she had some time in her new loving home...You just have to have patience, give them time, and teach them through positive reinforcement (never punishment). Training classes helped me immensely with my first dog and I'd highly recommend them. With the others, we just did the same things we had learned from training...Best of luck with your dog!

Training a 3 month old Siberian husky puppy?

there are many methods that do work and many methods that don't

one method that i've found to work for my pups [wont necessarily work for everyone, but worth a try] is feed them on a schedule
3 to 6 months a puppy should have 3 feedings a day and beyond 6 months limited to 2 months a day

first thing to do in the morning after you let your dog out of her crate [assuming youre crate training] is to take her outside to potty.
when she's in the process of going to the bathroom, say potty or another mark word/phrase and praise her like the dickens! [i wouldnt use treats, thats only really making them do stuff to get the treats instead of doing it to be well behaved]

also, 20 minutes after every meal take her outside for 10 minutes
if she doesn't go within 10 minutes, bring her inside and IMMEDIATLY to her crate for 5 minutes. take her back outside for another 10, and repeat until she does go. it's not cruel, dogs will not go in their crate if it's the perfect size and no extra room.

before putting her in her crate for bedtime, take her out to 'potty'

you'll need to take her out more than just 5 times obviously [1 after crate, 3 meals, 1 before crate] but you get the idea

she'll get the hang of it. it's hard but eventually she will get it

potty training is one of the main reasons why i recommend crate training and puppy scheduling. it helps you pin point when they need to go, and it helps them aswell.

tips:
praise like the dickens, literally. she wants to please you so let her know that when she does something right [in this case, pottying outside] she's pleasing you

do NOT i repeat do NOT use puppy pads. they're confusing for the dog and all they do is promote pottying inside the house

do NOT get mad at her. every mistake/accident that happens is our fault, not our dogs [harsh but true]

be very very patient

as for training not to run away
trust me theres NO amount of training you can do that will cause your pup not to run away

its there purpose to run, thats their sole purpose. its their instinct. you cant get rid of that

siberian huskies are very stubborn and very ahrd to train, but its not impossible

good luck

When can a puppy have treats?

A treat is nothing more than food reinforcement, or "reward" for desired behavior that is something you would like to see repeated and become stronger.Puppies can be trained as early as 6 weeks or younger. That doesn't mean they should be separated from the litter at any less than 8 weeks of age, but they most certainly can learn simple behaviors and their behavior can certainly be shaped at this young age.Socialization should start as soon as possible, in their original home prior to 8 weeks or age, and after 8 weeks of age in their new home and in public. According to Dr. Ian Dunbar, a pioneer in positive off leash puppy training and socialization, puppies should meet and be trained by 100 different people by the time they are 8 weeks old, and another 100 by the time they are 12 weeks of age, at which time the window of the critical socialization period closes.I prefer to use regular food such as chicken or cheese for training rather than commercially prepared dog treats because most of these treats contain harmful chemicals. However, there is a recent trend to manufacture more natural treats without additives. They tend to be more expensive though.Where’s the Beef? Why your dog should never eat another Milk-Bone or Beggin Strip, and you should avoid the Slim Jims.
