Wher To Spend One Night In Ernakulam

How safe and developed is ERS (Ernakulam South) station?

Well.., Ernakulam South Railway Station is a well maintained and a decent one with good infrastructure. This is a major station for many people who travel to the tourist destinations in the Eastern parts of Kerala (a major percentage of tourists & foreigners).  Station is very close to Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Bus terminal, where you will find Government buses to all most parts of the state.  Also, you can find 24/7 prepaid auto/taxi right in-front of the station, which is a safer travel option managed in collaboration with Taxi Service and State Police. The station is inside the city and you will have people around all the time. Keep cool and have a nice journey :)Also, for the comfort of your mind, please save below in your phone ;-)Women Helpline for Kerala Police - 99 95 399 953

What are the best places to make out in Ernakulam/Kochi?

I’ll share few tips from my experience.Buses: KSRTC (thiru kochi) buses with tall seats offer excellent convenience. Make sure you board an uncrowded bus which run frequently in a particular route so that not many people would board the bus. Don’t board ordinary ones, they have numerous stops, get a Town to Town or Limited Stop service. Also make sure that you take the last seat and that nobody can see you directly. If you can see them, they can also see you too.Long distance night buses are the best, they provide you with blankets too. Sleepers are the best followed by semi sleepers and others. ;-)Movie Halls: Most multiplexes will be empty during weekdays. Choose a corner seat and make sure nobody else has booked a seat in your row or directly behind you. Last minute booking is preferable. The multiplex in Gold Souk is the most preferred ones by couples as you can lift the hand rest that divides the seats. Again be careful, some movie halls have cameras meant to catch anybody recording movies.Staircase, lift, empty corridors, emergency exits etc in uncrowded malls and museums. Again cameras might be there.Trains: 1AC & 2AC berths are preferred since they give good amont of privacy. If you are ready to take some risk sleeper is also doable.Auto and Cabs: You can have a little bit of fun in autos and cabs during night time.Your own car: If you own a car that would be the best. Of course the person who is driving wouldn't be able to do stuff. You can make out in your parked car as well, but make sure that the surroundings are secure. Basement parking in most malls and buildings are empty during night time.Home: Your home when your folks are not there, or your trusted friend’s home is also cool. If you rent a home with a cool landlord that would be the best.Beach: Beaches during night is a very good option but very risky too. Puthu Vyppu beach is a good place I hear, haven’t tried.Parks: Try finding out couple friendly parks, every city has one and every such park has a spot where people mind their own business. Again little risky in Kochi.Office space: Conference rooms, cafeteria, your own cubicle and such places where you know dynamics and timing of people really well. In short any place accessible to both of you where you know the place in and out.Restrooms of cafes and hotels, changing rooms, terrace.

Are Indian railway retiring rooms decent enough to spend a night?

Trust me they are amazingI have taken an ac room booked online for 275 for 12 hours with double bed and it was no less than A hotel room costing around 2kOnly thing you will miss is TV else the rooms are really marvellousYou may also hear frequent announcements of train in night but it's manageable if you take an ac room which is cheap tooHere are some pics of my room in Guntur(Andra Pradesh)This was a long washroom which was scary too but has all facilitiesThis was the bed roomHere is the corider if you like to move around, there was long roof just beside the room which was scary to move alone at nightThere would be no room service here and they will come before 15 mins to vacant the room before your checkout so better don't be lateIf you pay online they give 5% discount and 20 RS IRCTC service charge is applicable so total cost for me was 285/- for double bed ac roomAnd yes you can book it for 2 days before of after your confirmed or Rac ticket

Are there any places to hangout in Kochi after midnight?

There could be cafes where you can spend hours after midnight. I have never been in any of them.I suppose you want to spend time outdoor instead indoor of cafes.Hanging around after midnight in the city is not a good idea. I used to hangout with my friends talking late into the nights. Often,on the way back home,I was spotted by the police and asked questions regarding my purpose of being out at unusual hours. But once you leave the city limits, you are less likely to be spotted and questioned by the cops. I have gone on night rides on my motorcycle to distant spots like Munnar, Kattappana etc. Although, I was out even after midnight, my motives for being out could be justified before the police. There are some spots you can be at late night hours; but if you are new to the city you would not try that. Our population is not only made up of locals, but people from all over the country. Their behaviour can not be predictable at late hours. At some places even locals could turn out to be culprits. So, know Kochi well before you venture late night-outs.

We are planning to go to Kerala. Which station should we visit?

Coconuts and kalari, synagogues and backwaters, seafood and kathakali. There's much more to Kerala than the swaying palm trees make it out to be. Step into a trader's wonderland, laden with spices and beautiful people, haven to Jews and Christians alike. Nothing in 'God's own country' is ever understated. From its people and politics to the fiery cuisine, everything in Kerala is in abundance. Some things to do in Kerala are:Kochi backwater island tour- A short 22-kilometre drive to 'Poothotta' is the perfect way to begin your day. Head out past urbanization and a steadily growing city of Kochi to the quaint village of Poothotta. A pleasant surprise from rush-hour traffic in the city, the amazing backwaters of this region are a treat for sore urban eyes.Ayurvedic massage- No visit to Kerala is ever complete without experiencing world's oldest healthcare option, 'ayurveda'. Choose your time slot and head over to the Ayurvedic Centre of your hotel for a uniquerejuvenating massage in medicinal oil.Bamboo rafting- NilgiriLangurs are set in motion with alarming calls as they flee on treetops deeper into the jungle with your entrance.Move on to bamboo rafts through the reservoir dotted with little islands as the forest gets darker around. Expect the odd splash or two on this surprisingly comfortable rafting experience.Chinnar Trek- Jungle Book it certainly is not, but close enough. Get up close and personal with nature as you spend a night in a thatched hut on top of a hill, in the middle of a jungle, overlooking the vast expanse of forest ahead.I went to Kerala last year with my family. I had planned my trip using untravel. The trip was well planned and very smooth. They have a lot of different types of packages which are pocket friendly as well.Happy Travelling :)

What can I do in Kochi in the evening from 7 to 11pm?

Enjoy the awesome aloo paratha with a glass of refreshing lassi. You can either have your evening to an end by entering the Sridhar movies and watching the movie that is showing. If you are not interested you can proceed to MG Road and enter the center mall & have fun till 9-10. Maybe by 10 30 have a stroll along the Marine drive sidewalk and enjoy the breeze which is quite rejuvenating. Then travel through high Court junction straight to palarivattom junction to kakkanad and reach the Speedway Kochi (which I think might be open till midnight). Go for few rounds (I haven't tried this part but I think it would be awesome )So I hope I helped you Enjoy your evening!!!!!!!

How do I plan a cheap 5 days Kerala trip with friends ?

I did Kerala last July. Unlike popular belief, though it was monsoon for Kerala but it wasn’t raining all the time. The good part was everything was lush green and it was less expensive being an off season.Start at Kochi.Day 1 (first half) - Fly to Kochi.Day 1 (second half) - Kochi (Cochi / Ernakulam) - Local site seeing. Mattancherry & Jew Town > Paradesi Synagogue > Santa Cruz Basilica and later towards evening cover Kerala kathakali CenterDay 2 (first half) - Folklore Museum and head for Munnar.Day 2 (second half) - Reach Munar and visit local market etc. On the way visit places like Cheyyappara falls and other falls.Day 3 - First half visit Mattupetty Dam > Echo Point > Kundala Dam lake > Ervikulam National Park.Day 3 - Second half visit Rose Garden, Tata tea museum, pothamedu view point and Spices park.Day 4 (first half) - Head for Allepy via Thekady (there is a lake in Thekkady which is beautiful). Day 4 (evening) - Allepy local site seeing…not much to see hereDay 5 - Early morning Canoe ride. Spend the entire day on backwaters.Day 5 (evening) - Head for Kochi and take a late night flight back to your hometown.- Take a cab from Kochi on km basis.  - Stay at one of the resorts at Pothamedu, Munnar. The view is amazing. - Try food at Rochas Restaurant in Munnar…it is good and reasonably priced. - Canoe ride ( Samsun >9846585674/ 85474 87701 > KERALEEYAM LAKE RESORT). - Kerala kathakali Center has shows only towards evening. Also I think they dont play during Fridays.Let me know if you need any other information on this. It costed us approx Rs 15000 per person. Disclaimer: I don’t have commercial interest with any of the vendors suggested.

How many days are enough for a trip to Kochi (Cochin)?

Coconut palms and seafood, Dutch churches and Jewish synagogues, spices and culture, Kochi is so much more than just another city here in Gods Own Country. Right from the time of the great flood of 1340 AD, when the Periyar River destroyed the great trading port at Kodungallur to create a natural harbour a few kilometres away, there’s been no looking back for Kochi. Each owner from the Portuguese and Dutch to the British has left his unique mark on the land here, spectacular post-colonial legacy evident in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. From fleeing Jews to Arab traders and Christian missionaries, Kochi has been home to a varied population and continues to lure travellers today as well. Chinese fishing nets, heritage homestays and backwater canoe rides have somehow kept pace with development on the mainland, Ernakulam. Spice trading remains a major contributor to Kochi’s economy, and a quick walk through Fort Kochi’s spice market with its intoxicating aroma is proof enough. Sultry warm weather, with an average of 132 days of rainfall throughout the year, expect to get drenched at least once during your stay here. An amalgamation of the best of the old and the new, Kochi is truly the heart of Kerala.3–4 days would be enough to cover Kochi extensively, I would say from my experience. For more information, here’s my blog on Kochi. Here’s a list of other places to visit in Kerala, if you need it.
