A web site called FedBizOpps lists all government contracts. It is free and searchable.

There are a number of paid services available as well. The best of these is called Input. It is at:

What does a government contractor do?

Government contractors do everything from food preparation, maintenance, logistics and cleaning to designing weapons systems, safety, facility management.

To get hired, talk to companies that have those contracts.

What are the best websites for bidding on government contracts?

Assuming you are focused on contract with federal government agencies, the principal website that government purchasers will utilize to synopsize their requirements and post RFPs and RFQs is FBO (www.fbo.gov). While the vast majority of solicitations for competitive requirements are posted there, there are some notable subsets that instead are posted elsewhere, e.g.:GWACs/DWACs. Multiple-award contracts often have their own site to facilitate competitions between current contract holders. This includes GSA/VA schedules.Intelligence community. RFPs from the NSA and occasionally other intelligence community members will be posted on the NSA ARC website or else available from the NSA ARC location.SAP. Acquisitions under the simplified acquisition threshold won’t be announced on FBO.There also are a number of websites that offer additional information to help contractors understand the federal marketplace and provide data on solicitations, previously awarded contracts, and so forth. Such commercial sites include GovWin, GovTribe, Govini and so forth. Much of the data these sites curate is actually sourced from government websites, chiefly FPDS and USASpennding.

How long does it take to award a government contract?

Impossible to predict. There are so many variables. Every city and state have their own procedures and schedules. For the US Federal government, each agency also has a different pace of doing business. You can be assured that the higher the value of the contract, the longer it will take. Also the type & nature of the contract also has an effect. It matters you’re supplying toilet paper in small quantities or proposing a multi-million dollar IT system development. Another variable is that the higher the value and the more competitors there are, there is likely to be a prolonged process with modifications to the solicitation documents, schedule, requirements, and inevitably a protest to the initial decision by the ‘losers’. If you’re considering US Federal business, check www.fedbizops.gov where you’ll be able to see how long past contract awards required in your line of business and in the agencies that you’re contemplating.

Government Contracts: How can I find RFP's or bids listing on the internet?

I agree with Brian, Federal Business Opportunities is a great resource. Follow these steps and you'll find tons of RFPs:To locate a specific solicitation without the solicitation number, you will  need to search for the solicitation based on unique attributes of the  solicitation. So for instance, you might search based on Agency, office, posted  date, procurement classification code, and/or archived versus active status. The  advance search features of the system are well suited for this purpose.Go to Federal Business Opportunities and login as vendor  (logging in allows you to save the search for later use. Note you can also do  the same search not logged into the site using "opportunities" link on the home  page, but the search cannot be saved for later use). Click on "opportunities" upper navigation. Click on "advanced search" sub-tab. Use the fields to enter the terms of your search. There are some tools that  might help as you set up your advanced search. If presented on a filter, you can  use the "+" tool to select all values of the list (e.g., all procurement types).  Then you could uncheck the one or two you may not want to include (e.g., uncheck  "award"). Once you are satisfied with your filters, click "search" Results are then presented on the "search results" tab. From the search results page, users are given the option to save the search  criteria for use at a later date. Click "save this search as a search agent"to  save the search. If you do so, you will need to provide a label that you would  like to use for the search agent. You will need to "save" the label once  entered.

Unilateral and bilateral contracts?

I am writing a paper about unilateral and bilateral contracts in our everyday lives, but I am having a little trouble. At work, during our “morning rally,” as they like to call it, my boss shocked all of us. She announced that Macy’s would be opening at midnight the day after Thanksgiving! I was shocked, that meant that we had to be in the store at 11:30 on Thanksgiving day. My boss also said that we had a choice on which shift we wanted to work, the morning shift, or sometime later in the afternoon. All we had to do was go online and fill out a little survey about which shift we wanted. When I went online later that night, I filled out “survey.” It asked me my name, and how many hours a week I worked, and then it asked would I prefer to work at 11:30 on Thanksgiving day. If I agreed to work Thanksgiving day, I would get paid time and a half, plus I would get a little holiday bonus in my next check. I quickly realized that this wasn’t just a survey; it was a contract.

What kind of contract is it though? I mean they are saying if I promise to work at 11:30 on Thanksgiving they'll pay me plus give me a bonus so it should be unilateral right? On the other hand, by signing the contract, I agree to come in at eleven thirty, and they agree to pay they said amount so it is bilateral. I am so confused, can someone help me?

How would I go into military contracting to supply firearms?

In general terms, when one of the services is considering either a new firearm or additional purchases of existing arms when they do not already have a contract with the manufacturer, they will bid by announcing a set of specifications and companies will compete. If it is a new design, there will be a series of trials, and once a final design is chosen then a contract will be awarded to that firm. If they are looking for a new supplier, the bid process is pretty much the same, but if they are looking to purchase off the shelf then they will simply announce a bid for a contract specifying what they are looking for. These bids often go through either the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) or the Government Services Administration (GSA), I thing for weapons DLA being more likely. You should be able to find where those bids are announced online and also the rules to participate.Understand, you will be competing against the manufacturers, so it may be very difficult for an individual to make a competitive bid, if not impossible. The military generally wants volume discounts off wholesale and a contract to include replacement parts and sometimes even warranty service. A retailer or small firm will have a tough time providing the best value to the services.
