Where Are Spark Plugs On 1997 Ford E-150 5.4l

Blowing Spark Plugs Out of Head...???

We have a 02 5.4L Ford in the shop... the complaint was "loud exhaust, and running rough"... well after a few minutes of looking into it, we found it blew out a spark plug, bank 2, which explained the loud noise (combustions, not exhaust) and obviously it's missing due to the plug being out...

Ok, so we start by checking threads, plug damage etc... all ok, other than the coil pack mounting tab broken. We figured maybe it loosened up, and backed out, we've seen this before, so we installed new as needed.

2 days later it's back, same issue. We go straight back to that plug, and sure enough, blew it back out... except now there's witness marks... stripped threads, bottom of plug had impact damage etc. Ok, so I've seen this too, but have never tore into it to locate exact cause.

In theory, I could imagine a couple things... piston slamming into it, and forcing it up and out... or even a valve sticking and pressure from the combustion or exhaust stroke pushing it out... any other ideas?

How many quarts of oil do i use for my 2006 ford e-350 van?

smjohnson is right. If it is a 5.4L V8 you mean, it takes 6.5 litres, which is about 7 quarts with oil filter change.

How good are ford's 4.6L triton v8 truck engines?

The 4.6L has very simple pros and cons to it.

(4.6L2v 281CI V8)
Pros
Reliable and not known for having issues
Decent fuel mileage (when driven gingerly)
Easy to find parts for if something does fail
Easy to modify for more power and torque

Cons
Lacking power when compared to other V8's from Ford.
Poor Fuel Economy (Towing)

Really that's the only con's I can think of. And this is solely based on my personal experience with more than one of these engines found in F-150's made between 2000 and 2008. The bottom line to this engine is that If you don't intend to do any really heavy towing and/or hauling. The 4.6L will be more than ample for you. It has an excellent reliability record, And for the daily commute it will have more than enough power to suit your needs.

The 4.6L found in your truck is only producing about 215hp (1997 year model) However the 2v 4.6L got bumps in power for several years, And I believe in 2007 it got its finale bump which put it at 248hp. However in the 2009-2010 F-150 there is the option of getting a 3v 4.6L that producer's 292hp. And in 2011 the new 5.0L V8 will be making 360hp. Pretty amazing journey from 215hp.

How good are Ford's 4.6L Triton V8 truck engines?

The 4.6 lt Ford engine with the 2 or 3 valve OHC ( single overhead cam ) is extremely reliable and durable. On trucks there were issues with exhaust manifold studs breaking . also the three valve engines had spark plugs that could be very difficult to remove, but a special tool made for that purpose works really well.Other than that, this engine is extremely robust .

How long can I drive my car with bad coil packs?

It is not a question of how long you can do it. It is more a question if you should. The answer is you should not. You can drive the car until it breaks down completely (and it will). While doing so you will, as pointed out by other answers, run the risk of damaging the converter but you also run the risk of fire.If the coil is faulty very bad things can happen. Car fires are usually related to causes associated with fuel, and/or electrical. Once a fuel part starts leaking while a car is running, a fuel drip can be the formula for fire if you get sparks from a spark plug wire or an ignition coil that is faulty. Something like this could be the end result. (the image is from the web, I am just using it to illustrate a possible scenario, I do not know what happened with the beamer) But I have seen a Lancia catch fire from a faulty ignition coil. So, why risk it? Yes, they are not cheap, but you really should get a new one. By trying to "save" a few bucks you may end up having to spend a lot more.
