Where can I buy a teacup yorkie puppy for less than $600?

Runts sell for more? What a rip-off. Just get a real Yorkie instead of a badly bred Yorkie runt that will most likely die within the first year. A real Yorkie will sell for much less than a runt.

How much does a teacup yorkie cost?

There's no such thing as a "Teacup" Yorkshire Terrier. "Teacup" is a fancy name slapped onto very small dogs, often the runts of the litter, to sell them for huge amounts of money. These so-called "teacups" are sold by irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy mills that don't care one bit about their puppies. No good breeder would ever label their small dogs as "teacup". These extremely small dogs are so tiny that they need special care, are extremely fragile, could possibly end up with many health problems and can cost $1,000+ which is absolutely ridiculous. You will NOT find one responsible breeder that sells "teacup" Yorkshire Terriers. Realize that if you ever purchase a "teacup" Yorkshire Terrier, you'll be supporting a horrible and irresponsible backyard breeder or puppy mill. According to the AKC, a Yorkshire Terrier should not exceed 7 pounds. If that's the case, all Yorkshire Terriers less than 7 pounds is within the weight limit. That means even a tiny 2-3 pound Yorkshire Terrier is still within breed standards. If even a tiny 2-3 pound Yorkshire Terrier is still within the weight limit, it's useless for irresponsible breeders to slap on the "teacup" name because it doesn't make any sense. I highly recommend you look into a Yorkshire Terrier rescue or on http://www.petfinder.com for Yorkshire Terriers in your area. If you do plan on getting a Yorkshire Terrier from a breeder, please do your homework and learn how to tell an irresponsible backyard breeder from a responsible and reputable breeder.

What is the best age (of the dog) to adopt a Yorkie?

Small dogs do best adopting out of the litter at around 10 weeks, but not earlier than 8 weeks. A good breeder doing appropriate socialization with many different surfaces, dogs, people and sounds, you could leave it as late as 12 weeks. However, as the socializaiton window closes between 14 and 16 weeks, you want the pup in your home before then, with vaccinations on board so that you can bond with it and start your own socialization programme, getting it used to the sights, smells, sounds, people and animals in your home and around your neighbourhood. If you’re talking about a rescue dog, I’d say anywhere in the 1 - 2 year range or even older would be fine. You’ll likely avoid the second Fear Impact Period waiting until after 12 months, so that the new experiences in your home don’t have a negative impact on his emotions.

Why do puppy Yorkies get their tails cut?

Short answer:  Because the American Kennel Club says so. It's part of their breed standard that a Yorkie's tail be "docked to a medium length."  If it's not, the dog will be disqualified from competition in dog shows.  TL;DR:  As Tom Harris said, with Yorkies this is purely aesthetic.  There are no functional or health-related reasons to do this. With some of the hunting and working breeds, there exist practical historical reasons for tail docking, ear docking, and dew claw removal, but even some of these are questionable - see here for a long explanation:  Canine Tail Docking FAQ I can somewhat understand the idea of docking the tail of a hunting dog working in thick brush:  After spending hours removing burrs from my Golden's tail, I appreciated my father's naturally bob-tailed Brittanies.Bottom line:  Most of this "puppy augmentation" is done simply to conform to a breed standard, or to custom. The Yorkie seems a bit of an outlier to me, because there wasn't even the thinnest 'practical' historical utilitarian reason:  Simply appearance. In my opinion, if you never plan to show your dog then there's no need to surgically alter them from the way they were born.
