Where Can I Find A Good Tax Attorney Near Jersey City

Who is a good immigration lawyer in Jersey City?

I don't have a direct answer to your question. But have a comment. If you have a straightforward case of just filing a status change, almost any lawyer is good enough. In fact, in such cases, you really don't even need a lawyer since all they do is to fill out immigration forms that you can fill out yourself if you just read them, understand the process and fill them out. Back in 1960s and 1970s, most immigrants filled out their own forms and got their status changed. I am surprised to see that people flock to immigration attorneys even for simple change of status issues these days. However, if your case is out of the ordinary, then you need an attorney who has handled similar cases to yours.

What are some ways to save on property taxes in New Jersey?

The absolute best way to save on property taxes is by obtaining an agricultural classification or exemption.     If you own vacant land, for example, you can lease your land to a beekeeper or rancher and virtually eliminate your taxes every year.  American Bee Project: Agricultural Tax Classifications Save Bees has a 50-state guide on obtaining agricultural classifications by leasing your land to beekeepers to rebuild bee colonies.   The guide applies to other types of agriculture as well, such as cattle ranches. For improved property, you can often save a lot of money by appealing your assessed valuation.   I have been representing taxpayers in such proceedings for over 25 years.   A good tax attorney or tax consultant will work on a contingent fee basis (representing you in contesting your assessed valuation for a share of any refunds obtained).  Your expert does all the work and does not get paid unless they win you a reduction, so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by hiring an expert to do all the work for you.   In many states, your tax savings will be locked in for as long as you own the property. You can also appeal your property tax assessment yourself.   Your local tax board or value adjustment board should have a website that contains the forms and procedures for appealing your assessment in your jurisdiction.   You will need to prove the value of your property, which you can do by pulling sales information off of your local assessor website.   You should also assemble any other documents that support a reduction, such as appraisals, purchase contracts, repair bills, construction permits, etc.   Make sure you turn in your evidence timely or it may be deemed inadmissible at your hearing. But the biggest savings by far are exemptions and agricultural classifications as instead of paying reduced taxes, you will pay virtually no taxes at all.

How can a democratic state have a republican governor?

States themselves aren't democratic or republican, but the people living in certain states tend to vote more for one party or the other. In 2008, Barack Obama won about 57 percent of the votes in new Jersey. In 2009, Christie won 48.5 percent of the vote. Because the incumbent Democratic candidate was unpopular and tied to corruption scandals, a lot of people who had voted for Obama in 2008 stayed home or switched to the Republican Party, but Christie still didn't win a majority. In 2013, Christie was reelected with 60 percent of the vote. He had been able to appeal to people who normally vote for Democrats by working well with the Democratic legislature and by being proactive in his handling of Hurricane Sandy.

It's actually not uncommon for states that usually vote for one party at the national level to elect governor's from the opposite party. State-wide elections are usually fought on different issues than national elections. For example, social issues and foreign policy are less important, and statewide candidates can often distance themselves from some of their party's positions. For example, Mitt Romney supported universal health care as governor of Massachusetts, and former Democratic governor of North Carolina Beverly Perdue supported restrictions on undocumented immigrants.

New York City Tax from Form IT-2104.1?

Look carefully at the form and instructions, linked below. You do have to estimate an allocation of your time for the STATE of NY (and for the city of Yonkers) if you expect to work out of state (or out of Yonkers if your base of operations is in Yonkers) for a significant proportion of your time. Note, however, that there is no requirement to estimate an allocation of your time for the CITY of NY. Also, the allocation is just an estimate, and is only for nonresidents. You do have to file a new form if you become a resident, or if your estimate of the allocation percentage changes "substantially."

This form, like the underlying withholding allowance form IT-2104, is used by the employer to determine how much NY tax to withhold for each paycheck. The state normally doesn't penalize you for good faith errors on this form. Instead, they penalize you when you file your tax return at the end of the year, if it turns out that you didn't have sufficient taxes withheld during the year.

Do I have to pay a Georgia "super speeder" fee if I live in New Jersey?

Last spring I got a speeding ticket in Georgia on a road trip to Florida. I paid the ticket IN FULL some months later.

A week ago I get a letter from Georgia saying that if I don't pay an additional $200 "super speeder" fee I will lose my privaledge to drive in GA and they say they will send the info to my state which will decide if it wants to suspend me or not.

Has anyone from NJ dealt with this before? Did NJ suspend your license?

How is it even legal for them to fine me again when I already paid off the ticket?

Any help would be great as the website FAQ was not helpful and I can't really afford to hire a lawyer to avoid a $200 fine.
