Swollen hind legs on horse mystery?

My 16.3hh TB x WB 12 year old mare's back legs are swollen and have alot of heat in them, she's known for overreaching and noticed she had mud fever quite bad up the back of her legs almost 3 weeks ago but since then the scabs seem to have fallen off and there doesn't seem to be any sign of any broken skin, scabs , puss or discharge of any kind and I'd go as far as to say its healed! But I now have no idea what's causing this swelling!?

She's kept in 24/7 now unless I ride her (which I can't do because she's lame) and I've been in touch with her old owner who's told me her legs used to puff up when she was in but never been lame off it!

I've had some bute left over from when my gelding had laminitis so gave her half a sachet last night and going to do the same tonight.

Any advice any one can give me? Do I cold hose her, put legs in Epsom salts, walk her to try reduce the swelling, I'm at a loose end and want her fixed. Will try any suggestions?

Can some one help me what's wrong with this accident prone of a horse of mine!

Who is your next of kin suppose to be: A parent or sibling?

It’s the person you wish to be notified in an emergency. Younger adults would list their parents. Older ones, with mature kids, would list their children. I always listed my mother or older sister, until my kids were grown. Whenever they are capable of making decisions, signing papers for medical procedures, etc., then the natural choice would be to put your trusted children in that role…………. because your parents or siblings may not be alive whenever your “next of kin” needs to be contacted. It’s basically giving someone an idea of who to contact if you are incapable of helping yourself. So, if the choice is between your parents and your siblings…….. you have to decide which one you’d trust most to make hard decisions for you, if you were incapacitated.

If you lived in a commmunity where many children were unvaccinated would you want your board of health to quarantine someone with an illness such as polio or measles or just let them interact with everyone?

Here’s the way it works in Harris County.Diseases like measles are “reportable.” You can google the phrase “reportable diseases” with your location and see how such cases are handled in your neck of the woods. If someone gets reported as having a communicable disease, the health care workers investigate. If the person does have the disease (say measles again) they will take “appropriate action.” This includes isolating the sick person and making sure they get proper treatment. It will include tracing contacts in the case of measles (polio hasn’t shown up in Harris county and it’s much less contagious, especially if you make sure not to let the patient’s fecal matter contaminate any water. However the list of reportable disease includes flu and TB, which are contagious) they will interview contacts for vaccination status and vaccinate and/or quarantine those who are not. This is an extremely expensive proposition - often running to hundreds of thousand of dollars.Schools can also exclude unvaccinated children during an outbreak. This makes transmission less likely. It also protects the unvaccinated child, although they are not always grateful. Federal Court Rules Unvaccinated Children Can Be Barred From Public SchoolsYour question implies that you may not realize that there are policies and laws in place to address this issue already. An obvious reason that you might not know this is that only recently, with the loss of herd immunity resulting from misinformation spread by pro-plague nutter groups, have we had such serious and publicized outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases. Up until now, there have been the occasional TB and Ebola patients quarantined, but nothing like the level of problems with measles, chickenpox and whooping cough. We are returning to the hospital policies of my youth, when children were not admitted as visitors, because of the very real possibility that they were in the early stages of being contagious with something.Hospitals Adopt New Procedures to Limit Spread of Measles - Alpha NewsChildren’s Hospital to restrict young visitors

Are there poisonous snakes in Chile ?

Get this: CHILE has only ONE, small black and NON-poisonous snake and yes, one small poisonous spider. I will take my chances with the spider and hope I do not run into any snakes on my mountain hikes. At least I do not have to worry about something deadly slithering my way. However, I have heard there are some rather shy tarantulas here….gulp.
