What would life be like for an American woman living in Egypt?

It greatly varies depending upon your circumstance. If you were to go as a student or employee and reside in a larger city, Cairo or Alexandria, the experience could prove magical, powerful, life changing and give you an excellent skill set. You will also have fun. That is, if you are intending to follow most of your Western ways and live in a secluded environment with the ex-pats and diplomats. But that is not the best way to experience the total beauty and the other side, the village life, of this complex country. As a woman, if you are unfamiliar with traditional Islamic ways, please do some reading. Most of the time, you will not need to know, but should be aware that there are traditionalists in Egypt. You should also not wear western type clothing in certain areas, nor is it wise to wear shorts, short skirt, sleeveless shirts or anything political on one’s clothing. Bathing suits should only be worn in western swimming area. People do otherwise, but females are often treated very poorly unless in an international or private pool or beach. That being said, the seas are pristine, warm and the snorkelling unforgettable. A seafood meal of freshly caught fish prepared seaside in Port Said is exquisite…You will meet interesting people from all over the world and learn more about why people are as they are. You will develop language skills, ride camels, see the pyramids, visit the tombs, boat on the Nile. You will learn ancient history, if you so choose. But remember, it is a different culture. You may be shocked by their laws, medical care, traffic, beggars and the vivid contrast between wealth and desperation. If you are married to a Citizen of Egypt, beware. Fully know your lack of rights the moment you cross Egyptian airspace. Register at your embassy.Egypt is a land of extremes, you will never forget your time there. You can never forget the smell of the strung jasmine necklaces small children sell through car windows. Egypt is meant to be inhaled, but it is not all jasmine for a woman.I hope this helps. Enjoy your adventure.

Has anyone been to Egypt during Ramadan?

Egypt is in its best in Ramadan,,, Tourists even enjoy more,,, it is very normal for them,,as they can have their normal activities and also they have a great opportunity to attend some very nice Ramadan Traditions,,

Although Egypt is less rich than lots of Muslim countries,, you will not see anyone doing these free Ramadan banquets for anyone poor or rich than in most of the streets of Egypt,,,
you will not see more than 50 millions eating in the same time together,,,you will not see 1000's eating in El Hussein square in the same moment,,,you will not see the real Arabic music played by the Nile till the early morning
You will not find the special Ramadan food and drink in any place else than in Egypt
I will be in Ramadan in Egypt,,,,,,Insha-Allah

Does "belly dancing" make your hips get wider?

I would imagine that learning to use those muscles and building their strength might make them a little bit wider, but if you are fairly straight-figured, I wouldn't take up belly-dancing expecting to get to an hour-glass figure.
