Why is weed illegal and cigarettes aren't?
First, the plant can be used for more than just getting high. It makes good rope, and good paper. Manufacturers who'd made fortunes on wood pulp paper weren't going to let this new, cheap paper product get out into the market. Mr. Hurst was instrumental on banning pot. Second, there are health concerns associated with pot. Marijuana is naturally more carcinogenic than is tobacco, of course, with the additives in tobacco, this goes away and pot is better for you. Pot will never be legalized nation wide as there is too much money to be made keeping it illegal.
